Kaiser Maryland?
Hey that is great news...congrats on your upcoming orientation. I did take a good friend of mine to my orientation. They usually do their best to try and fit everyone in the room. Just like the monthly meetings that I go to now, I don't even get an appt. card for some months because I have been doing these since April every month and have to continue until I have my surgery. They said they only have room for; I think it is 150 ppl. at the Point West Kaiser in Sac for these meetings; so they said they send out appt. cards to new people only and if they have room to the old timers, but everyone is welcome to show up. I know when I go alot of the people that are scheduled end up being no shows, so that makes more room. So definitely don't worry about it just take him along there should be room. I wish you luck! ~April~

twizlerbabe20 - Did you look into those self-pay plans further. It looks like some of them do payment plans. Maybe you can do that? I saw your excersize progress bar for August,...CONGRATS on going past your goal for the month, that is awesome! How did you do it??? I have a question for you... How much exercise did you do in the beginning of your weight loss. For me I can walk some but too much and I start to get shooting pains down my sciatica even worse than normal. I'd say the most I do right now is about 20-25 minutes (at a very slow pace) only completing about 1/2 - 3/4 of a mile in that time frame.

Great job on the walking Sugar! Here's an idea...when you are feeling tired or cramped when he is there just go put on some workout clothes, dust that elliptical machine, put on some headphones that are playing your favorite music and go to town (you know what I mean, get busy on the machine). Then you go go away in your own little world with your music and your soul!!!

That's ok, I understand being busy. I have lost at least 30 lbs so far total, and I think some more since this weekend. I have been doing low carb type dieting this week since Monday. Eating lean meats, veggies and little bit of fruit once or twice or day.

Cascavel - Congrats on the 33lbs lost that is amazing!!! I am routing for a quick and easy recovery for you! lizrbit - 10lbs is great. Just remember we all lose at different speeds and that as long as the number is always going down you will never be back at your starting weight again! insubordination - Thanks, I know it's better than nothing. I am not quite posititve yet but it looks like I have lost 5 more lbs since Saturday, so you were probably right. I am just going to keep at my diet until I see the Doc and see where Igo from there.

Liquids, Liquids, Liquids!!!
That is pretty much what I have been doing for the last 3 days... No bread, rice, potatoes or pasteries. I haven't even had any fruit. Just lean meats like chicken, g.turkey, cheese, veggies, and no sugar drinks. We will see on Monday how well this is working for me. I am a scale-a-holic and use my scale everyday in the morning and I know I shouldn't but it looks like I have lost 5 lbs since Monday. But I do like to use the weight on the scale at the Dr.s office for my official weight, my home scale seems to fluxtuate since I am so close to the max weight of 400, not sure if thats it.

I can only imagine. From what I heard in the class I had this past weekend is that they get 200 new Bariatric Patients a MONTH!!! I am hoping when I see the surgeon on Tues He will go ahead and schedule me for the 2-3 months out at the appt. This way it won't fill up anymore and delay my surgery past Nov/Dec, that is when I would like to have it. By the way I have 22 lbs to go now to my goal. I have to be at 350-360 and I am at 382 but the surgeon told me to come see him when I get within 15-20 lbs of that goal so he can schedule the surgery.

Ok I went to my monthly pre-op class and I am sooo dissappointed! I only lost 4 lbs this month. I am down to 387 lbs. I need to lose at least 7 more lbs within 10 days. Otherwise I won't be where I need to be when I have my follow up with my surgeon. I am so stressed out I don't know what to do...Any suggesstions????

That's not too bad from what I read and was told from the nutritionist and "normal person" should be no more than 2,000mg a day. And with that amount should be drinking 8-10, 8 oz glasses of water a day. So less water less sodium more water more sodium. Hope this helps!

I am so sorry to hear that. What are the boundaries? Do you have a docotr that you know that might think about helping you work around their system? I know some people did the self-type pay but insurance covered some i=of it. Have you looked into that possibility? Maybe they can cover half then do a payment plan for the difference?
-
A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?
Do you have insureance that would cover it? If not you can self-pay but I have seen that run anywhere from $6,000 - $15,000, depending on where you live. I have insurance so I don't know if the self-pay ones have payment plans or not. Someone else might be able to answer that for you. Good luck on that!

This might sound weird but it happened to me... Have you checked your total sodium intake? I looked at mine that week that it happened to me and my intake was 200% of what it should have been for almost the whole week even though my calories were what they were suppossed to be. So I cut down on that and I started losing again. Especially if you have a lot of soups. Those are HIGH in sodium extremely high! Just check it out.

A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?
That's right!!! It is up to you it is YOUR choice not theirs!!! They won't be the one who has to live with it the rest of their lives. They won't have to deal with sicknesses, and possible issues with the Bypass. I don't like to promote one over the other (surgery that is) to anyone but if you were comfortable with the LapBand to begin with, until the dietician started trying to change your mind then you should definitely remember that. It is quite possible to make you question your choice; because when I spoke to people and they said similar things to me it almost swayed my decision also. It think it is just becuase it is such a life changing thing no matter which one we choose that we are scared that we will make the wrong choice. Just go with your original instincts and know that you have people who care around you and that along the way we will be cheering you on, never be embarrassed or ashamed for anything you do "We are HUMAN" and no matter what we make mistakes it is the lessons we learn from those mistakes that matter the most not the mistake itself. Believe me I have thought the same thing SO MANY times. But I always rememeber some of the negatives with the Bypass surgery. My favs to remember are nutrition defeciencies, vitamin defeciencies, hair loss due to lack of the vitamin asorbtion and Dumping Syndrome from eating any thing with sugar in it. That was just to name a few! And through all the research I have done it has shown that after 3-5 years LapBand and Bypass patients end at around the same total weight loss. Bypass might lose quicker in the beginning but they slow down at some point and LapBand might lose slower in the beginning but it speeds up slightly as time goes on and the band gets tightened with fills. Another good thing to remember is no rearranging of you insides that always makes me feel better. Just keep your head up and know that we are all here for you whenever you need to talk. Hey I think I just reassured myself about getting the band done and not the Bypass...haha!!! :whoo:

As for the line "Don't lose too much" I know that one very well. I have been friends with someone for 6 years almost 7 years and when we met it was right after my husband and I had split up (we had been together for 9 years) so the intentions was to date him but after 3 years of hanging out offand on I decided I realy REALLY wanst into him enough to be with him. Well he still tries to see me every once in a while and whne I told him that I was doing this surgery he git all butt hurt and sad becuase he says he loves my body the way it is and doesn't want me to lose any weight. Well I told him that I HAD to do this for myself and it didn't matter what he thought..lol. We are still friends..kinda... but I feel differently about himknowing he doesn't back me all the way with this upcoming surgery.

Thank you I could use the encouragemen. I will be try with everything I have to get down enough in weight before then for he surgeon. Make sure you only copy and Paste everything between the brackets that say... sometimes there are other words inside the url and you dont want those either. Just start with any bracket or words after that. Make sure you don't include the ending url either. Then on the very last page before you close it down there will be website link you can click on...click onit an save it to your favorites or copy and paste it. This will be the link you click on to update your ticker with your weight loss. I t will ask you for the PIN number you gave when you went through the first time and the date and current weight. This will update your ticker.

Thank you soooo much.... I needed to hear that! I am not loosing as fast as I want to right now but I will take it. Well I will be at the meeting every 4th Saturday of the month at Point West so when you start going we can meet there. I think you will be put through really fast for the surgery. I am going to ask to be on the waiting list so I can try to get in if there are any cancellations. Hopefully I can have mine done by November/December. Have a great day! Talk to you later. April
