Merry Christmas! As I wait for my teenagers to emerge from their beds to open presents (they sleep a little later than when they were little), I am overwhelmed by the opportunity I have been given. So many people long to have WLS and do not have insurance that will cover the cost or the resources to pay for it themselves. How lucky we are to have this chance to change our lives! Only 5 more days until surgery for me!
Wishing you a happy holiday today!

L-in-NJ reacted to LynRN in Have you become more of a Foodie since surgery?
I kind of feel like I have. I look for recipes and watch food Network (food porn) way more than before and I have also made things that I have never made before like crab cakes and pumpkin custard. I have been finding ways to tweak recipes to my dietary needs (lower carb, high protein) and am just as excited about eating as ever. Granted, I am only four weeks post op and still on soft foods, but after the liquid and puréed stages, the soft diet is amazing. I had 7 small shrimp with a teaspoon of cocktail sauce and a couple of spoons of cheesy spinach. Pretty good. I am pretty excited about what the future holds and it's forcing me to go outside of my usual cooking/eating repertoire.
Although, these may all be musings of a food addict! Uh Oh! Oh well. Thoughts?

I'm still considering the surgery so this is the right place for me your rude comments show that you're just a negative person and I hope the best for you. I want to thank all of you again everyone's stories are inspirational, yes the money is the biggest problem right now I am trying to get my tribal insurance coverage on board to add wls to it and or just get the tribe to pay for mine if not I'll have to start saving. The whole idea I had was a test to see how much weight I could lose I'm basically on the Atkins diet and doing some exercise and I'm down 10 pounds I actually have to lose 15 more before I have the surgery I don't think the weight will drop as fast as it did the first week I quit drinking soda pop all I drink now is Water crystal light and a little milk and of course my shakes I'm eating healthy choices no breads noodles or rice yes it's a little hard but if I want to make a lifestyle change it has to start with me before I'll have the surgery or I will end up eating unhealthy food post surgery.. My cousins had this done in June and they lost a lot of weight but they still make very very unhealthy choices they drink soda and eat lots of sugary foods and breads witch I think they should stay away from now one is not losing much weight and I believe that is because she's eating everything she should not and it's an everyday thing. Anyway I appreciate all of your nice comments and hopefully by the end of this year or before I'll have the surgery paid for and or already have it done

Man time truly does go quickly. It will be 3 weeks since my surgery tomorrow..
Btw, for dinner, I had 4 oz ounces Wendy's Chilli... very delectable!! Doc said it was okay once you hit soft foods and I'm there now..so when you are in that zone, definitely try the Wendy's Chilli... you'll love it. I added a little shredded fat free cheese on the top.. yummy.

Well said feedyoureye. The person who posted this is not trying look down on anyone who's had surgery. She stated that it's just not affordable for her at this time. I know I wouldn't be able to afford the surgery if my insurance didn't cover the majority of it. She came here looking for advice. If you don't have anything constructive it's not that hard to move on to the next post.

I don't see any reason to make fun of this person. People have to come to this in their own time. You have ALL been there... I know I have been, so, show some compassion. If she needs us for our experienced support, she is welcome here now or in the future.

I am going to take back my statement above about sugar not affecting me. My wife and I hosted a huge cookie decorating party today for extended family. There was a ton of sugary food (and non sugary food) from frosted Cookies to home made marsh mellows to homemade almond roca to home made candied pecans to gourmet chocolates to... Trying one thing led to another. I sampled it all. Oh I was so naughty ! anyways, I was not feeling good afterwards and went to lay down. I was sweating, very warm, heart was racing and I was overly lethargic. I promptly passed out and napped for a couple hours. When I woke up my whole body ached. I mean really ached deep in the muscles. I started drinking Water because I thought that might help due to a dehydration effect from the sugar (or some other anatomical process). It did. After about 45 minutes the aches are diminished. My body must not have liked that sugar rush at all (insulin response through the roof?) after eating fairly strict paleo for almost a year and not having any real sugar amounts from food since pre surgery (1.5 year ago). I don't think I will be doing that again nor will I eat much sugar again if I can help it. That did not feel pleasant at all. Definitely an overdose of sugar. Almost like the effects of drinking alcohol to excess and passing out. I have never done that, but I imagine the process would be about the same as sugar is a drug as alcohol is a drug to the body. Not meaning to derail others from enjoying their xmas parties. I just wanted to share what happened for me in case it helps someone.
