NMSunshine.. You might check into my Dr in Colorado for your lap band surgery. He charges $9950 for the whole works and the covers 3 months aftercare and fills.. Since you are close by in NM, it is another option besides Mexico... Just thought I would pass it along.. There is a link to his web site below my signature.. PS. It's good to see you over at the over 50 thread and your new handle..

IndioGirl... Love your new Avatar!!.. You are a very nice looking lady.. Just look at those rosey cheeks and beautiful smile.. I can hardly wait until I get my band. October seems like eons away, but in reality it will be here before I know it. Hubby and I will be on the road traveling while I am on my pre-op liquid diet, so that should be interesting.... We live full time and travel in our motorhome and will be traveling from California where we are spending the summer to our home base in Colorado for the surgery. We will be stopping and visiting kids, grandkids and other family along the way. We will be staying with my daughter and granddaughter during my recouperation. We will be there through Thanksgiving and I'm hoping that I will be able to have a taste or two of the turkey and dressing by then... :hungry: I am planning on waiting until after Thanksgiving before I get my first fill, so hopefully that will allow me to have a small, but nice meal...

Mary... Welcome to our groupie... What day in October is your surgery scheduled? What an inspirational story about your friend... She lost more than she currently weighs right now.. That is great!! My gosh look at at how active she is now compared to how she was.... It is almost like a miracle transformation... Here was this fabulous butterfly needing to break out of her cocoon. Our groupie is growing and thanks to Holly for starting the thread.. I'm getting excited to have great friends to share this journey with.... My vote is still with TENacious TENS...

HELLO, any oldies out there? I'm almost 63 and want to live.
Wow Deb, that is wonderful that you have been able to stay at your goal weight for 2 years... It gives us new ones encouragement to keep going... Do you have any advice you can pass along to us, like what foods worked best for you or how much exercise did you do each day... It's great to hear from people like you that have "Been There Done That"... Thanks for posting...

Indiogirl... Thank you so much for the great suggestions on the evening snack.. I made myself a little note about that. Skipping the morning and afternoon snack and saving it for night time is a great idea.. It sounds like enough to stop the craving and being full at the same time... I just love all of these hints that you and all of the others are sharing with me.. The sandwich plates and small utensils are just the perfect thing for meals.. Thank you again for the wonderful suggestions... Margi... That's great!! It sounds like you may have finally found your sweet spot... I bet it is nice to be able to eat again..

Giving up smoking..........
Hi Toots.. I quit smoking 2 years ago by using Zyban.. I was a smoker for 45 years and smoked anywhere from a pack to 2 packs a day.. After I had quit smoking for 8 months I found out that I have emphysema.. So, for your sake, please quit smoking...... You can do it and we are all here to support you when you need it...

Lets get this PARTY started! Oct 07!
Hello to all of my fellow October bandsters. I am getting my band on October 16th by Dr Kirshenbaum in Denver, Colorado... I can hardly wait... Good grief, I thought I was the only one that was on the last supper eating frenzy..:hungry: I keep justifying it with the fact that I have to cook nourshing meals for my DH and I just can't let good food go to waste so I pile it up on my plate too.. Anyway, how about giving our October group a name.. I have been thinking of something like the "Blooming 10's" -- "Tens in Bloom" --"Tasteful Tens" (because October is the tenth month) or "Spooktaculars" (because of Halloween in October) :rip::spy: Those are just a few that I thought of. Would like to hear of other ideas and then we can have a poll and decide on one for us... Looking forward to getting a groupie name.. :clap2:

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Hi Everyone, I haven't been around for a couple of weeks and just got caught up on reading the posts... Thank you all so much for being so honest about posting your cravings. I will be banded in October and I think I will go get me a set of baby utensils so I will be reminded to take those small bites. I am ok with 3 meals a day, but I eat waaaay too much at those meals.. I have a real problem with moderation and the plate must be clean before I remove it from the table.... I am so looking forward to my banding and helping me to eat in moderation and healthy.. I am much more comfortable in knowing that I can still eat some of my favorite foods, just less of it at a sitting... And thanks for the info on the night eating, cause that is when I have cravings for sweets. I keep having these talks with myself but, if I can have a fudgescicle I will be a happy camper and not feel as though I am depraving myself..

New Here! Getting ready to change!
Hi Brandy, Nice to meet you. I am going to Dr Kirshenbaum for my banding on October 16th. There is a thread that is going with Dr K's patients and there are several people that live in the Denver area and get together once a month for lunch.. You are invited to come on over to the thread and meet a nice group of people. It is under the "Doctors and Hospitals" heading and it starts out "Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum". The thread is over 100 pages long and very friendly... Good luck to you and hope to see you at the thread..

Newbie Here!! This is my first post
Hi Boomer, Welcome to the Lap Band-Wagon... I am very close to your age and I am self pay also and I am going to Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver, Colorado on October 16th.. He charges $9950 for the whole works plus 3 months follow up care... Because you are out of town he will give you a number that you can call anytime with questions or problems.. Dr K and his staff are Number 1 in my book.. I highly recommend him.. It does not take very long at all to get your surgery scheduled. I chose the October date because that works best for me... You are most welcome to join us in the Dr. Kirshenbaum thread under "Doctors and Hospitals" and ask any of the others questions you may have.... I have a link to his web site below my name if you want to check it out.. Good Luck to you on where ever you decide to go..

Will be banded in the United States by Dr. Kirshenbaum in October....

Want Lapband Insurance Doesn't Cover
I am self pay and being banded by Dr. Kirshenbaum in Colorado on October 16th.. He is a kind and gentle Dr... I very highly recommend him to anyone. He charges $9950 and that includes everything for the surgery and 3 months follow up. Fills after the 3 months are running $15. He has a support group that meets once a month and his nutritionist was voted the best in Colorado. Everyone in the office are the kindest most understanding people I have ever came across.... Or like losingjusme said there is also the option of going to Mexico to get it done... Good Luck

Want Lapband Insurance Doesn't Cover
Have you checked into a self pay? There are quite a few insurance companies that will not pay for lap band surgery and people end up getting it with self pay. Good Luck to you..

How is weight loss for people over 50?
IndioGirl, Wow what willpower to throw out some yummy white gravy for your mashed potatoes.. My mouth was beginning to water as you were describing it. But you are so right about 75% eating right and exercise, as the band is just a tool to help you with your journey to weight loss. Carol, I hear ya with the head hunger thing.. I am trying so hard now not to eat anything after dinner, but lately I have been craving sweets in the evenings too. My sweet tooth has been for pastries, like donuts or cinnamon rolls but a good banana nut cake or zucchini bread will work for me.. :bounce: Ok, no more talk about the bad foods, just healthy food talk... Oh, just one more thing for IndioGirl, yes the flat kind in chicken broth...

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Crabcakes, Denise, Phyl, and BJean.... Thank you so much for sharing with me your experiences with different foods... I was getting real worried about that since I keep reading about people who can't eat this or that. I don't mind giving up certain foods for the lap band but, I was beginning to think I was going to be doomed to a life of protien drinks and fish. While I do like fish, I really like other foods as well, plus I keep thinking about my poor husband who doesn't have a weight problem and what to fix him to eat.. :hungry: Carole, Congratulations on your fantastic weight loss. That is a great accomplishment. Hopefully I will do as well. I know alot of the process is mental and I'm trying to get the positive thoughts going. One thing I have found to be helpful is this web site and all of the support and encouragement you get from everyone here.

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Thank you so much crabcake for the encouraging words.. I have been concerned about that, as I keep reading different threads of people who can't eat this or that and I wasn't really looking forward to a protien powder and fish diet from now on.. So thanks again for giving me some encouragement.. People such as yourself is what makes this site so wonderful..

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Hello everyone, I just found this thread and have enjoyed reading about us over 50 folks.. I am scheduled for my band surgery in October and I'm getting excited for it, but at the same time I'm a little aprehensive about no longer being able to eat some of my favorite foods, such as my homemade meatloaf, beans and cornbread, chicken and dumpllings, etc... How have all of you been able to give up some of your favorite foods and is it as difficult as I'm thinking it is going to be? I would love to hear how you cope with it. Thanks to all of you kind folks out there in bandland..
