Love food too much!
Hi fluffy...... I am having my surgery on the 16th, and I need to lose 100 lbs also... I am a little bit older than you and have 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter... I am self pay and having my surgery done in Denver, Colorado by Dr Kirshenbaum... I will be starting my pre-op diet on the 2nd and he requires a high Protein, low carb diet which is essentially the Atkins diet.... I have been on that diet before so I'm not expecting any complications, however it does require portion control and lately I have been very terrible at that.... I have also picked up the bad habit of grazing all day... I have just about eaten up all of the junk food I have around, so I won't have an temptation laying around calling my name. I will be happy to give you support throughout your process.... I'm sure that others being banded in October will be here for support too.... :clap2:

Here is the truth about the band
Indiogirl.... Very well put... You have said it very eloquently... I am to be banded in 2 more weeks and I have been reading, reading and more reading for the past 2 months on the site and I feel very comfortable in the knowledge I have gained here...

Lets get this PARTY started! Oct 07!
That is neat that one is at her goal weight... Don't ya just love those before and after pictures? The other one that is finally eating properly, hopefully is losing weight and close to goal at 2 1/2 years out..... Your friends daughter is young and doesn't realize that the band is a committment... But what the heck 36 pounds lost is good, since she really hasn't worked at it...

We are the TENaciousTENS!
Hello laurygregson, Donnajade and new me 2008.... Nice to have you with us.... laury.... Hang in there girl and post on this board whenever you are feeling like you want to eat... Force yourself to go places with your friends... It sounds like you might be a little depressed and we are here to help cheer you up.... When do you start your pre-op diet? Is it a liquid diet or a modified Atkins diet? I will be starting my pre-op on the 1st of October and my surgery is scheduled for the 16th... I will be doing a high pretein, low carb diet.. sort of like an Atkins or South Beach diet... I need to get off of my arse and get some exercise in each day.... I'm getting so excited about getting my band... I can hardly wait... Donna... That is so cool that you have a son that will be graduating this year and can be in pictures with him... How old is your other son? Congratulations on getting your insurance approval... I'm right in there with you, I can hardly wait.... new me..... Way to go on the self pay... I have always said "Where there is a will there is a way." I am self pay too, but I don't have insurance.... If I may ask, why would you not have qualified for insurance?

Lets get this PARTY started! Oct 07!
Paragirl.... I fully understand that... Having full faith and confidence in your Dr is worth way more than the cost.... I didn't realize you were in Georgia, for some reason I was thinking that you were closer... Sorry How are your friends doing with their bands? Have they had them very long?

TENaciousTENS "roll call" as promised!
Gosh you guys are soooo lucky that you don't have to do a pre-op diet... Apparently your Dr's are not worried about a fatty liver being in the way of placing the band.... I only have to do a high Protein, low carb diet.. Like Atkins or South Beach... So that isn't too bad, since I've been on them before and I know I won't be starving... Since you all are going in early in the month, be sure and give us an update on your progress as soon as you feel up to it after your surgery.... We will be thinking of you on your day...

Lets get this PARTY started! Oct 07!
Wow ee Paragirl.... That's alot of money for your surgery.... I'm self pay and it's only costing me $9950 for Dr Kirshenbaum in Denver, Colorado to do my surgery... That is for everything including 3 months post-op followup care and fills..... Since you are in Arizona, it might be worth a plane trip to Colorado for your surgery... I know there are alot of people who have traveled long distances for Dr K to do their surgery... They have come from Florida to Alaska. One fellow even came from New York so he could be banded on 9/11... There is a link to his web site on the bottom below my signature... It might be worth checking out...

A place for bandsters in their 60's
Hi Sharon.... I take aspirin for my arthritis and my Dr said that I needed to get off of the aspirin two weeks before surgery and that I could take one of the NSAID's like Advil or Aleve... I have always heard that the NSAID's if taken for long periods of time can enlarge your liver, but you probably know the answer to that better than I do, but for your peace of mind, I would ask my Dr about it... Age is just a number so, Good luck to you on your journey to better health.... :clap2:

BMI is 36 and self-pay, where should I go?
I am going to Dr. Kirshenbaum in Colorado.. I am also self pay and he charges $9950 for everything... He is a great Dr. and cares alot for his patients... There is a link to his web site at the bottom of my signature.. Check it out and give his office a call and ask if they will take you with a low BMI...

Caffienated Drinks
Hi Free..... I don't think that very many of us have or will give up our coffee, some people have cut back to one or two cups a day, I have one cup of coffee in the morning to get me started for the day and there are many decaffeinated teas on the market... I personally drink Celestial Seasonings Lemon Zinger and it is decaffeinated.... The Crystal Light on the go Green Tea that I put in my bottle water is 99% caffeine free.... So, you are not the only one with vices, I think we all do in one way or another.. Keep the faith, it will all work out in the end...

We are the TENaciousTENS!
nume.... Gosh, that sure doesn't sound like much for a pre-op diet... I think I would starve to death if that was all I could have.... I agree with you I would add some broth and some protein powder drinks... Also cottage cheese and some string cheese.... Instead of regular sugar for your tea, try some Splenda or Sweet N Low and some Fat Free Milk and I think you would be ok.... Be sure to drink plenty of water and add a squeeze of lemon or some Crystal Light if you need to.... Good luck to you... Your band date will be here before you know it...

We are the TENaciousTENS!
WELCOME Jamie and Misty... It's nice to have you with us... Misty.... That is great that you had such an easy time getting insurance approval, especially with your family history... This is the right step on your way to a healthier life.... Jamie.... I'm sure that you meant that you are supposed to get down to 134 and not 234.... Congrats on returning to school... That is wonderful that you are furthering your education as well as embarking on a new lifestyle change by getting the band... Good luck to both of you...

October bandster
Welcome to the October TENacious TENS group.... We are happy to have you with us.... That is one thing about this place, there is lots of support... We all know the frustration of dieting and then gaining it all back only to add more lbs back on.... When you get a chance hop on over to the "Roll Call" thread and add your name and date for Holly and then hop on over to the TENacious TENS thread...

Effects of Alcohol after Lap Band Surgery
My suggestion would be for both guitarjeff and philjarvis to ask their lap band doctors on how much alcohol they will be allowed to drink each day after they get the band.... Every doctor is different in their requirements for success with the band and we are only guessing with our answers... The professional opinion would be more accurate... Good Luck to both of you on your band and successful weight loss...
