melhealthy reacted to marymcg62 in crying like a baby no support at all
Oh my gosh, your post broke my heart! I wish I could reach through the computer & give you a hug! I am lucky my husband was &still is supportive, & my children are grown & are my biggest cheerleaders. All I can tell you is to keep praying &posting on here both will get you through. As far as the food goes, you have to look at it in a different way, not the stuff that could comfort you like nothing or no one else could, that's what got us all into the place we are in now. Food is there to nourish our bodies, give us fuel to get through the day & keep us healthy,it's been. 9 months since my surgery & I've lost 120lbs! I still have another 100 to go & am at a total stand still. Anyway this is about you every day is a battle & a choice just take it one day or meal at a time, think of what you'll be able to do with your children, riding bikes, chasing them trough the leaves in the fall, pushing them on the swings. All things I missed doing because I was 396lb when my kids were small , I missed all their events at school ( couldn't fit into the seats), sporting events I was to embarrassed, I was starting to miss some of the same stuff with my granddaughter, & she's the reason I did this & trust me when I tell you the first few months I thought I mad the biggest mistake of my life! I was miserable, puking all the time, having the runs, food didn't even taste the same, but somewhere down the line it changed, now it was the best , just last weekend my granddaughter wanted me to go shopping with her before I would of made an excuse, but now I was as out the door in 10minutes& had a great time. I hope something in here helped. If you need to talk I'm always here take care & be strong. Peace, Mary

melhealthy reacted to erikaloftin in Confusion over Food- your opinion?
Read my post above. I'm glad everything was fine for you, but that's not great advise to give to people. Always ALWAYS encourage people to listen to their own doctor. many doctors have many different opinions, but I'd never suggest straying from what the Dr says.

It's very normal to stall at the point where you are. I stalled also and even gained weight. I thought I was going to be the one the surgery didn't work for. I am now one week shy of six months and I'm down 82 pounds. I started at 268.5. My hardest stall weeks were through week 6-12. After that my body started adjusting and so far I lose between 1.5 -3 pounds a week. Any loss is good. Just follow your doctors plan and the weight will fall off!

The dreadful stalls happen often, don't let it stress you. Throughout my journey I couldn't even count on my hands how many times I hit a stall. What I would do is hide the scale, keep my mind busy, up my Protein, added more Water, followed my doctors orders and walked a lot (if I had time to exercise I did that too) 30lbs is a big deal so congrats on your loss so far, the rest will follow believe me:) no worries and wishing you the best!

Obesity is a life-threatening disease that is the number two cause of preventable death in the U.S. No different in all of the ways that are important from any other disease. And the question you have to ask yourself when deciding on a treatment is what is the most effective option? Bariatric surgery is the most effective treatment known to medical science for treating obesity. Not by just a little, but by a huge margin. Diet and exercise for anyone with a BMI over 30 is a myth - it doesn't work. Doctors are just beginning to understand why it doesn't work but they've known for a long time that it is ineffective.
Sooner or later someone will likely tell you "it's the easy way out". Absolute nonsense spoken by someone who is ignorant of the facts. Treatment for a life-threatening disease is not a question of easy or hard. It's a question of effective.
Yes, there are risks as there are with any surgery. But the odds are overwhelmingly in your favor of having a successful, life-changing experience. And the risks of doing nothing are overwhelmingly against you.
Nuff said.

melhealthy reacted to TurnThePage in Terrified of the procedure itself!
Calm down. If you've chosen your doctor well, don't worry about the specifics of what is being done inside--you'll be unconscious anyway.
This is a bit like renovating an older house. You may have to rearrange some systems like plumbing, but then it's wonderful to have a newly remodeled kitchen and bath. Living in the house is so much easier and more enjoyable after the reno. You have to get past the process and focus on the end results.
My surgeon has performed more than 6,000 WL surgeries and is part of a Bariatric Center of Excellence. My hospital is highly rated by various agencies.. I chose carefully and gave a great deal of thought to whether I was ready to commit to the lifelong eating and exercise programs. In the end, it was all about having a vastly improved quality of life and being happy with myself! Looking back, my only regret is that I didn't do this years ago!
Keep your eyes on the big picture and don't get lost in the details. You are going to be so happy when you gain control of your weight, your health and your life!
