lol, sorry I spelled it wrong its Ketoacidosis...it happens to diabetic people when they go into starvation mode, although ours is not from diabetes, but that is what a nutritionist described it as...anyway you sweat, it stinks pretty bad at least that is how she described it to me, she had RNY too...it doesn't happen to everyone, and only lasts for a little while, and you will know if you get it so don't worry too much

I have fibro, I too am sensitive to smell, but mainly to my Protein. I am ok if I drink it through a sippy cup or through a straw, I even plug my nose on occasion if I have to drink it out of a cup. Its not so bad. Sometimes I feel like the smell is stuck in my nose, its kind of like a burning sensation, but you never know what the true sensation is because of the fibro.
People that have had RNY tend to smell bad from kesetosis, its only for a little while while after surgery, but it comes out of your pores so you will stink for a few months. I keep a can of air freshener close by all around the house because after surgery, from having our guts rearranged you tend to get really bad smelling gas too.
I also have a few yankee candles that I am ok with mainly fresh smells like Clean Cotton, Sweat Pea....Like you, I can't stand really strong smells but if its a light smell its ok.
One thing I have noticed since surgery is that I am having more flares than normal, I have had to cut back on the amount I am working out, but as far as I know its just me. I was working out 15-30mins daily before surgery and have to cut that to every other day. I feel like I am in a rut, I workout, flare, then recover....

I won't miss my hip circulation being cut-off, requesting seatbelt extenders, or fearing that persons sitting next to me will insist on lowering the armrests, in those tiny jetliner seats.

I won't miss my thighs rubbing together...especially in the summer. :-) And I won't miss being the hottest person in the room (and not the good kind of hot). Won't miss the moo-moos that fashion designers think all big people must wear. Won't miss trying to tuck my tummy into my pants to look smaller (even though I may be tucking in loose skin). LMBO That's it for now...even though I have millions. :-)

My surgery is day after tomorrow. I'm not nervous about it but I am a little worried I may have forgotten to do something to prepare for it. So to distract myself I am playing a little game called 'Things I will not miss'.
These are only SOME of the things I will not miss:
    - clueless people saying 'Congratulations! When are you due?' (Really people?! I am 53 years old!)
    - buying clothes whose only redeeming quality is that they fit.
    - Rashes from sweating
    - back and knee pain
    - snoring (I have a feeling my hubby won't miss this one either)
    - pretending to wear a seatbelt that doesn't... quite... reach.
    - watching from the sidelines while every one else has fun.

I too, have fibromyalgia, RA,&,chronic pain & hypothyroidism all of which helped me on my way to weighing 386lbs the day of surgery. I'm down 90lbs ( my surgery was on 1/29/13). Anyway smells get to me as well especially onions if I could wear a mask I would, not only do I get a headache but it makes me nauseousI also have a problem with foods not tasting like they used to. Anyone else with that problem?

We've found in a few conversations that we have a lot of the same unusual experiences. Did you know that people with Fibromyalgia who are sensitive to smells and noise, are experiencing heightened sensitivities in those areas after weight loss surgery? We can help each other by caring, and sharing info.

I just wanted to wish everyone a good Memorial Day. This day is always special to me as I have many family and friends that have served or plan to serve our country. We would not be here without their sacrifice. I also say a big thanks to the family of soldiers. They sacrifice just as much as the solider.
Also stay strong on this day of cook outs and family gatherings. I know it is tough sometimes seeing people eat like we used to, but the reward greatly out weighs the struggle to remain on program.

I have had both positive and negative comments. I told my family and friends, and the people that I work with know I am having surgery. I decided that if people asked what I was having done, I was going to be upfront and honest with them. The reason is, I am not doing anything wrong, and I think the negative perception people have about the surgery is only made moreso by not talking about it as if there is a shame involved. That being said, I've been really hurt by some of the negative comments that are both rude and insensitive. But, I've grown to understand that those comments define the other person and not me. I actually had a person I used to work with tell me "Why would you have that surgery? Wow, now you will have skin hanging all over." I often wonder if people stop to think about what comes out of their mouth?? On the other hand, I have a good friend that was initially hesitant to be supportive- maybe because he is a high level coach, and also because he worried about complications. But now he is very supportive of me and told me yesterday he is proud of me.
Look at the negativity as ignorance, and know you are doing the right thing for you. I think by not talking about it if asked, and being open about it, it reinforces that there is some sort of shame or weakness involved. I want people to know I am strong enough to make my own decisions, and strong enough to stand by them- regardless of what other's opinions are.
Be strong in knowing you have made a courageous decision to become healthy again and get your life back, and chalk up ignorance or negativity to what it is. Just my two cents (plus a few)

Do you have an addictive personality? I noticed you asking about smoking earlier.
I have an addictive personality. food, cigarettes, alcohol....whatever. But I'm trying to be healthy...and I just went 12 grand out of pocket to try to lose weight. And I've been quit on the smoking for over 2 years. So smokes and booze are not in my future (unless if it's just wine with a friend...and only occasionally. I'm not even planning that). And I'm not judging...I just didn't waste a bunch of money to be an addict to other things. I've seen too much cross addiction when researching this step in my life.
You should ask your surgeon when they recommend drinking. Many say 6 months...some say a year. Then it's only supposed to be one drink at a time (I think). I didn't ask my surgeon about this, since I have no plans to do it. It's not recommended to drink a lot though....and alcoholism is a major problem with post GB patients.

This is not a selfish request. You have a right to ask for prayers. If you've made the BMI over the last three years, and its documented, I would think the insurance co will be reconsidering your resubmitting of these documents to show proof. I can't imagine how you feel. Just hang in there and I'm sure it will all work out for the best. My prayers are with you and please keep me updated on the status of your approval. Good luck & God bless.

You can get huge bottles of sugar free flavorings at sams club they are like $5.49 a bottle the name is torini or something like that. They have many choices make sure u get the sugar free. You can also use sugar free jellos and puddings, just use 1 teaspoon sugar free Jello powder or 1 tablespoon sugar free pudding powder in your shake, there are many flavors to choose from and u go from boring shake to very delicious shakes.< /p>

Interesting!!! My Fibromyalgia makes me super sensitive to smells. I have a hard time getting by the smell of my Protein Drinks to get them to my mouth. And when I walk in my parents house, my moms perfume almost gives me an instant headache.
