I am a visual learner. I love looking at people's before and after pictures and can't find a thread on here already dedicated to that. I so far only have before pics because my surgery isn't until August 8th but I would love to see others pics as inspiration!

When I weighed this morning it hit me that I only have 1 (ONE) more pound to lose until I hit my 100lb mark! I broke down in tears!! It has been an amazing journey so far...and I am almost to the "tipping point" (6 more pounds) to having less to lose than I have already lost! I am just about half way there! in 7 1/2 months! So I am shooting for my goal by my birthday in Oct....that's 7 more months.... I am going to try anyway!
If you are just starting out....I hope your journey is a smooth and wonderful as mine has been so far!!

I am 4 months out and down 69lbs! I love how I can sit in a chair cross legged and still be comfortable, or I can fit back in a booth while eating out. Or how about the fact that the hubby can put his arms all the way around me with room to go!!
What little things have you noticed?

I have been at a stall for the past couple of months. I made a New Years resolution to increase my Protein and do better about doctors orders. I was getting 40-50g of protein a day. Now I am getting 90-100g. Not only do I feel really good, but my weight loss has started again.

GloriaW reacted to DLCoggin in Managing Hunger
It wasn’t all that long ago that the idea of “managing hunger” had simply never crossed my mind. Manage hunger? You get hungry, you eat. Simple. Who the heck “manages” hunger? The answer is anyone who has made the life-changing commitment to achieving and then maintaining a healthy weight.

Managing hunger is a skill. And just like any other skill, it can be mastered with a little knowledge, a little practice, and a pinch of patience. Here are some ideas to help with the knowledge part of the equation.

    · Never eat less than two hours or more than four hours apart. Less than two hours and you’re probably not physically hungry. More than four hours and you run the risk of getting overly hungry increasing the likelihood that when you do eat, you’ll overeat.

    · Thirst is not hunger - but the signals from your body are similar and are often confused. If you're not sure, try drinking something first.

    · Eat small but frequent meals. Remember the goal - never get overly hungry.

    · Do not skip meals. Always carry one or more healthy Snacks with you in the event you need to eat while on the go. Nuts, turkey Jerky, rice cakes (they now come in a wide variety of sweet and savory flavors), fruit, cheese and some trail mixes are all good choices.

    · Eat your veggies. Very rich in Fiber which is very filling and takes a long time to digest so you feel full longer.

    · Eat s l o w l y. You’ve heard it before and it is true – it takes 15-20 minutes for “full” to get to your brain.

    · Get plenty of sleep. Research has shown that folks who only get five hours of sleep a night are 50% more likely to be (or become) obese than those who get seven to eight hours of sleep.

    · Drink (or “eat”) more Water. A fruit cup with watermelon, strawberries and orange slices is a watery, hunger satisfying snack. Salads made with lettuce, celery, cucumbers, and/or tomatoes are also excellent.

    · Eat more whole grains. Healthier and higher in Fiber. More filling and more satisfying.

    · Eat Protein. More filling and like fiber, fullness lasts longer because it takes longer to digest. “Solid” Proteins are the most effective at curbing hunger.

    · Drink coffee, tea, Crystal Light, Moi, soy milk or almond milk. liquids will not keep you full as long as solids will but they are a great way to satisfy your hunger for shorter periods. For example, until your next meal. Here’s a tip - Try unsweetened almond milk (it comes in a number of flavors including vanilla and chocolate) and add Splenda to sweeten it. Delicious, thick, creamy, 40 calories per 8 oz. serving, 50% more Calcium than cow’s milk, and very filling!
Give these ideas a try. You just might discover how easy it is to manage your hunger!

I had a lot of nausea after surgery, but pain was very manageable. Walking as soon as you feel up to it helps get the gas out... And you want it out! I've been on a liquid diet with Protein shakes. I ordered the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury sample pack which is Protein powder you can add to almost anything. I am 7 days post op and feeling good. The Unjury you can order from their website. Good luk!

The response I've been getting have been "your not even big enough"..."all you need to do is exercise"...."you know people die from that right"....like I just want to say shut up!!

I finally experienced severe dumping syndrome after nibbling on holiday Desserts. While I did not enjoy the abdominal cramps and the diarrhea, I am glad that I can experience dumping syndrome. The ability to have dumping syndrome is one of the reasons I proactively chose gastric bypass. I view it as a way to reprogram my brain. I now am in the process of reprogramming my brain with respect to nibbling on holiday desserts. Thank you, gastric bypass, for doing what you are supposed to do!

Welcome Gloria, happy to meet you. I am three weeks post-op and am learning how my new digestive system works, too. I can tell you that the surgery is of a malabsorption/ restriction type. You are restricted because the size of your "pouch" is much smaller than your actual stomach, before. It has a malabsorption component because you bypass parts of your stomach and intestines that digested and absorbed nutrients, fats and sugars. Our real motto becomes "we eat to live", because our diets are so important for our overall health, now. Vitamins, Protein and fluids are a must for all of us. I would suggest that you google and read as much as you can about the Roux-en-y procedure to help you understand the importance of your new journey. Knowledge is power. Many good topics on this forum but there is also a lot of great information available on the web. I found a few books on Amazon.com that has helped me understand it all.
