Not Prepared-Please help!

Recommended Posts

My surgery was just approved-I'm going to get a copy of the confirmation today so I'll feel like it's actually REAL! :) Since I've been in denial it would actually happen for me, (insurance denied me once already) I haven't prepared this time. Do any of you have tips to share on the things that helped you in the hospital, after, what you ate, how you felt, etc.? I know I'll need to re-research again on my own, (and I started this am) but I love hearing what worked for others and what you avoided or had trouble with.

Thanks a ton!

I had a lot of nausea after surgery, but pain was very manageable. Walking as soon as you feel up to it helps get the gas out... And you want it out! I've been on a liquid diet with Protein shakes. I ordered the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury sample pack which is Protein powder you can add to almost anything. I am 7 days post op and feeling good. The Unjury you can order from their website. Good luk!

I had mine 11-19. Pain was manageable but had nausea. That sucked. Was home on day three. Healing takes a long time especially internally but you should be moving around pretty good after a few days home. There are ups and downs but it gets better each week unless there are complications which are on the rarer side.

I slept in the lazy boy for a while. I'm a stomach sleeper and didn't want to roll over. Followed a liquid diet for two weeks. Now on soft/puréed foods.

Good luck.

I had my surgery on 10/05/12. The pain was manageable. Walking will help dissipate the gas that was very painful. I had trouble with sugar free lemonade (the acidity really bothered my pouch) and soft tortillas (will make me sick every time I eat them). Other than that, try new foods slowly! Your tastes will change...good luck!!

Bring Chapstick to the hospital! You can't eat or drink and your lips will get very dry. Also, be prepared to feel bloated when you leave the hospital. This is because of the gas from the surgery and the fact that you will be on an IV being pumped full of fluids. Best of Luck!!

I remember the gas from my husbands surgery-I felt so bad for him but he was sooo stubborn. Which unjury did you like best?

The chocolate splendor is pretty good. I kid the unflavored in everything. Also' date=' I added the chicken Soup flavor to warm chicken broth. That was very satisfying. Just make sure you do not heat the broth above 140 degrees because that changes the Proteins.

Thanks for the advice, I ordered the unflavored unjury, was worried my flavored powders might make me nauseous.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
