there is a difference btw the point, round and the flat - the flat is leaner - the round is leanest - and the point is the most flavorful but it’s the fattiest - you gotta cut that stuff like a surgeon after it’s cooked
The best way we cook it is in the oven - LONG AND SUPER SLOW - and we save the drippings and cook the cabbage in that - which is the irish version of greens (if you know anything about cooking greens)

I am less than 24 hours away from my RNY and to be honest I don't know whether I'm scared or not. The biggest part of me is just ready to get the ball rolling and have that part over with. The other part of me is wondering what happens to my family if for some unknown reason that I don't make it out of surgery. Is anyone else or was anyone else worried about this as well? We all know that there is a risk, but I pray that the benefits far outweigh the risks for me. I have to be at the hospital at 5:30am for my 7:30am surgery which means the hubby and I have to be on the road by 4:00am. Ugh! At least I will have more time to recover which means I will work my butt off to come home on Wednesday.
My prayers are with you all, as always, but especially my fellow surgery buddies that will be going in tomorrow. I will try to keep you guys updated the best I can. ????

I have a two day pre-op diet. Yes I'm one of those. I'm super geeked. I have been waiting for this for the longest. I don't know who is more excited me, my mom or my sister. She's getting married in November. And I am the only bridesmaid. And I know she wants me to look nice. I'm gonna be freaking hot. Lol.

Hey there. I'm new to this app and I've found a lot of useful info on here.
Just a run down tho, I'm 24, 314lbs, 5'10". I have gone through my consultation and I am now on phase 2.
I have an appointment on 2-12 for my dietician and psych eval. All of the blood work and imaging on 1-27. I'm uber excited. It seems that the process is moving way more faster than I expected.
I will be posting regularly so that I can provide just as much helpful info that you all supplied me.

Did anyone pig out before starting pre-op diet?

The January losers bench is really getting long!! I love it and don't mind scooching over to make room for you all.
You'll all be so happy when you start to see the changes. I came home weighing 6lbs more than when I went in (fluid and gas) but 8 days out I had lost that and 5 additional lbs.
I'm a week 1/2 out and feel great. Still challenged physically and mentally at times, but doing much better each day.

Congrats to all the new Surgical dates this week & best of luck to you all : ) I'm only 6 days out & I woke up feeling like a different person!!! This losers bench rocks!!! Can't wait to hear about ur experiences!! See ya on the flip side : )

Surgery is in less than 18 hours (Jan 21 @ 8am)! Lots of ups and downs since I started this long journey in 2008. I joined this group April 2012 when I originally thought I was "approved" but later found out I was actually denied (insurance mix-up). After some hard work and determination, my appeal to the insurance companies (primary/secondary) was approved! If it wasn't for this online support group and MyFitnessPal, along with some very close friends, family, and my partner, I'm not sure how I would have made it so far. Achieving my weight loss goal will be easier than maintaining. That's my longterm focus - staying at or closely around my goal weight. I struggled ever since college - 10 years of undergrad, grad, and doctoral studies came with a sedentary, stressed life with nothing but carbs and fat, and the occasional up-and-down dieting. Patterns learned long ago in childhood and adolescence were reinforced as I continued down a path of self-destruction. That continued through adulthood... Lots of learning has occurred in the past years, but now I'm REALLY learning and DOING... "Knowledge is no guarantee of good behavior, but ignorance is a virtual guarantee of bad behavior" (Martha Nussbaum, 2010). I will need to continue learning, but also recognize that knowledge (while important) needs to coincide with consistent, reflective action.
For me, I believe exercise is going to be key along with therapy and conscious, healthy eating. RNYTALK.COM and MFP are going to be there every step of the way.

I had sugery on a Monday and back to work the following Monday, I would have taken a bit longer but I could not afford to be on disability. I think since I went back to work qicker my recovery time was so much quicker. I worked 1/2 days in the office and 1/2 days at home. I think if you get back to your schedule as quick as possible you recover that much faster. Everyone is different, I had a very easy surgery and transition to a new life style and lots of support.

As my surgery date gets closer, I am getting more nervous more anxious more scared & more excited! I first got this app May of last year but since my surgery was cancelled i didn't pay much attention to it. But now that this surgery is going to happen i am completely ADDICTED to this app. Reading everyone's stories & knowing that these stories are real, comforts me to such a great extent! No one i know has had this surgery so basically no one understands me, but all of you definitely do!

I think I would much rather take shots than to continue this liquid diet. Bahahaha! Honestly, it hasn't been quite as bad as I anticipated, so I am praying that I can make it through the next nine days.

I just started my Pre-op liquid diet today because my surgery is the 29th. I am so very excited yet somewhat scared and apprehensive. I think that I am more worried about the level of pain for the 48 hour period afterward. Can anyone share their experience about this?
