After years of my primary and my GYN telling me I was a good candidate for the surgery, I finally had to face the reality one day about six months ago (it's now the end of Dec. 2012). I never wanted to get the surgery initially because I was too afraid, I didn't know much about the truth about the procedure.

But the moment of reality was when I got kind of sick and went to the Doctors and had my sugar tested and for years I kept my A1C number just below the 7 points like the Doctors prefer (both my Mom and one Brother have Diabetes, so I knew I would probably get it "someday"), but since I kept it at bay for so many years I figure I was good. But when I started not feeling good I knew something was wrong so I went to the doctors and had my primary run the tests and sure enough my A1C number came back at 9.5 points I almost fell off the chair in her office. I couldn't believe it had just so high all of a sudden, so we decided to try medication first. one med 1x a day, that didn't work so we went with that one med. 2x a day, that didn't work either so we tried 2 meds one at 1x day the other 2x a day, that didn't work either so she then tried 2 meds 2x a day each. That stared to help but when I went back a couple of months ago (several weeks after trying both meds) my number came down but not enough, my A1C number came back this time at 8.5 point.

That was the moment I knew I no longer could avoid the surgery, because not only do I have Diabetes but I have high blood pressure, PCOS and Fibromyalgia, I now know since attending two seminars and multiple nutrition classes and seeing the surgeon and the Dietitian, etc. I now know more about the procedure and fully understand the ups and downs of surgery, the rules you must follow and how this is a life changing event not just some easy way out.

My surgeon and I will set my surgery date on January 17, 2013 when we meet again, I am hoping for the beginning of April 2013, I want to have it done before summer so I can use that time to create an exercise plan and be able to get outdoors and get moving because right now due to mobility issues, I don't get much exercise at all.
