  1. I have had 3 c-sections and gallbladder removed the old fashion way... this surgery was a piece of cake!!

    Body image issue

    I think that this is why it takes so many different steps in pre-op. They try and make sure that when we are deciding to have surgery that we are fully aware that it is just a tool to help loose weight. Though the weight comes off it doesn't get to the core of why and how we got to the point we were at when we made the decision to have surgery. This is why they tell us to go to support group meetings and if necessary find a therapist. I know that I am working on it. I just decided that I was going to leave the scale and the numbers on the scale to the doc for now and work on appreciating the changes through how clothes fit and the way my body feels. I like the suggestion that Abby gave. It is something that I had done a long time ago and helped. I stopped doing it and think that it is something I am going to start doing again.... Thanks for the reminder!!

    I can't wait to be able to ..... buy a bra that fits, is sexy and not gonna break the bank!! ( Larger size bras are NOT that pretty! Just watch Double Divas and you will see! LOL)

    Surgery and TOM

    I started about a week early (the day after surgery) and it was a whopper of a flow so maybe bring pads you would usually use.
  6. I don't think you will have a problem. I was up and around rather quickly after my surgery. The main thing is that for the first little while you can't lift anything. Ask your Doc what they think.

    Question

    I use the measuring cups for liquid items. For Protein I weigh my meat. The amount that I can cram into a 2 oz portion cup is not 2 oz of meat. I also went to Sam's and purchased a case of 2 oz portion cups so that I could limit the sizes for things and have to use a huge bowl for my 1 oz servings. Worked great when I was making the Jello for the liquid phase.

    Cold stuff

    I have a different problem. I can't drink my protein warm, it makes my tummy very unhappy with me. It also could be that I have never liked warm milk and usually add ice to my milk. I have to add ice to it. Water and other drinks are much easier warm though.

    Spaghetti

    You could also use spaghetti squash for the noodles. I haven't tried it since surgery, but liked it before.
  10. WOW!! I can say that I am amazed at how this topic has gone. When it started yesterday I wanted to just comment with "I know! Right!" Now I am compelled to actually comment on the subject of weighing and stalls. I know what is right for me. I DO NOT weigh myself. Doing that WOULD make me nuts! I gave ownership of that bit of information over to the doctor's office. That way I am not making myself bonkers with the daily fluctuations of the scale. I didn't want to know what I weighed before surgery and even asked many doctors not to allow me to see the numbers because of how detrimental the number was to me then. I know that I am loosing, I feel the difference in how my body moves, how it fits in clothes, and what spaces I now fit in. The number on the scale or the number on my britches doesn't matter. I chose WLS not for vanity, but for health. I know that I am much more healthy than I was 3 months ago. I know that I can sabotage myself if I worry about the ebb and flow of daily life. Does that mean I am insensitive because it just dumbfounds me when people are talking about weighing daily (sometimes more than once a day), eating stuff they shouldn't or just being very negative? I don't think so because in my mind they weren't ready for this.I know if I would have had WLS 5 years ago I wouldn't have been ready. I would have been one of those people fussing about it not working fast enough or freaking out about not loosing. I would have been the person that binged before and shortly after surgery. I would have been one of the people that I am dumbfounded by. I am encouraged by seeing those that have been successful for the long haul. I appreciate when I am told to get my head out of my behind and stop doing things that could cause me to self sabotage. I also appreciate those that have been through this sharing what works for them and why. Forums and support group meetings are the only smorgasbords I can go to any more... you see there is a whole ton of food (information and ideas) spread out on the table before me... and I get to pick and choose what I want to eat! it is my choice to take or leave it. Some of what is there may be harsh to me. That is the stuff that I leave for another day, for when I am ready to deal with that.

    you may want to take sanitary pads or tampons also. Often women start right after surgery even if it isn't time for them to start.

    Constantly nauseated

    I suddenly started having nausea and heartburn after almost 2 months of doing great. I had not changed anything in my diet but suddenly started feeling sick. Called the doc and had my pepcid changed to prilosec and still felt sick then decided to change to lactose free milk and am GREAT now. So perhaps try the protein with soy milk instead also.

    Bad news

    I only took a week off... worked on Monday, had surgery on Tues. out of hospital on Friday, and was back at my desk job on Tuesday... it wasn't a big deal for me.

    also about travel... it all depends on your doc. I had surgery on nov 27th and the doc cleared me to travel from FL to VA in mid December.

    the frothy part adds air to the shake and can give you tummy troubles.... used mine to puree my foods and was fine... it is the adding bubbles to the milk that didn't settle well

    I find that I don't like my shakes done in the bullet as it adds a lot of air to the shake. Frothy was great pre-op but post-op my tummy didn't like it at all.

    Approval timeline for BCBS

    I have found that some of the pre-op diet isn't because of the insurance company. My husband was going to use a different center than I used to have surgery do. He knew the exact requirements for our insurance butThe center he was going to use told him, it doesn't matter what your insurance requires, we require a 12 month pre-op diet. Needless to say, he has since changed his mind about what surgeon and center he is going to use.

    Frustrated

    sorry you are having to deal with this. I have a different problem with my food.... I buy things that I can eat and the kids see it as snack food. (deli chicken, cheese sticks, yogurt, etc...) It's fine if I am home, but when I have to leave and am not able to monitor the kitchen they go bonkers on MY food.

    crossing my legs

    when I was first able to cross my legs I sat in my Sunday school class and looked around and for the first time ever all the ladies were sitting like ladies. I started giggling and everyone gave me a puzzled look. Later I explained why I was laughing. Nice thing for me is that there is another in my class that is a bypass patient (2 years out) and she and her hubby said she did the kind of thing when she started seeing things that she was suddenly able to do.

    liquid is liquid, even if you mix with milk it counts as liquid intake.

    Protein Shake Recipes, I need help!

    these are all "nog" shake recipes that I found from the link at the bottom, ( a compilation from many different sources) Eggnog Add a dash of cinnamon, a dash of nutmeg and a sprinkle of butter buds to a vanilla shake to create a eggnog flavor. Egg Nog Protein Shake 4 oz. Silk Nog soy milk 4 oz. Water 1 scoop vanilla protein Dash of nutmeg Place liquid in the blender first, then powder. Blend on low then high till well blended. Dash of nutmeg on top. banana PROTEIN NOG 1 scoop Matrix Simply Vanilla Protein Powder 1 cup skim milk A one inch chunk of banana 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon vanilla Place all ingredients in blender and process until smooth.     wasted food = expensive

    I find that I often freeze the leftover food so that I can use it as a quick meal another day. That and using the small portion cups sold at sam's to have them ready to go. I have 4 kids so they often take the things that I find that I don't like. I see that I am spending much less on food than I did in the past....
