kellbell5 got a reaction from Nick's Grandma in First Time Posting
    Hi to all,
I have been reading posts made by everyone for a couple of months now and my insomnia has finally lead me to post a little about me...
I recently began my WLS journey. I attended the discovery seminar, the welcoming meeting, and my first appointment with the dr and dietician. My insurance covers the surgery but I do have to do the six month supervision prior. It seems like a life time away. I am going to admit to you all I am terrified of failing. I have failed at so many other things... Can I do this and be successful forever?
I have become so ashamed of my appearance and weight that I have alienated myself from so many people I feel sort of alone in this. I am really hoping to find some friends here.
I appreciate everyone who took the time to read my post.
Good luck in your weight loss journeys!
P.S. I am having a hard time uploading a profile picture so I attached one it's always nice to see who your talking to.

I just wore a pair of shorts I haven worn since my honeymoon several years ago. Also, I was able to walk 3 miles the other day and ended up dragging my dog behind me by the end of it.

Who cares if you look stupid?!? I mean I personally don't even think twice about it. I say screw judgmental people! I've had enough of them! Live your life for you and make decision in your life that you are ok with because your the person the has to live with them.

So excited to report that I ran 3/4 of a mile today without stopping. While that may not seem like much to some of you, you must know that before I started losing weight I couldn't run for more than 30 seconds without getting winded. The best part is, I wasn't dying when I got off the treadmill and I probably could have kept going! Such an exciting day for me!

For me telling people was extremely difficult and I never expected the responses I would get from some. It's amazing to me how many people have a "story" about someone they know, who knows someone, who's family member had they surgery and they.... You fill in the blank... Because just about anything that could happen has happened. And instead of saying things like "wow that must be a tough decision" or "that must be scary for you" they have to say insensitive and rude things that do not ease our minds.
Because I had this very same issue come up I spoke with my therapist about it. She suggested the best way for me to handle it might be to come up with a "script" I had prepared for when someone said something like that. For me, mine sounded like this (post-op):
I appreciate your concerns but I've weighed the options and for me this was the right choice. What I could really use now that I've had the surgery is support from... (You, my friends an family, etc. depending on the person)
It has actually really helped. For the people who find it difficult to support me, it was clear my choice was not up for discussion. And for the people who wanted to support me but didn't know how, it helped them to see what they were saying was not supportive.
Just my two cents. If you use my script or come up with your own I'd love to hear how it worked for you

Does anyone else plan a meal, shop for it, look forward to it, only to make it and then not be able to eat it?? I don't know why but it seems like it happens a lot. Thank goodness tonight's meal prep wasn't wasted because it was something my kids also ate.

I forgot to include... I took my phone and charger but nothing else electronic. If I used the tv there I was usually asleep within 15 minutes of turning it on and my phone I hardly touched. For me I didn't like the bright light and stuff. I thought if be posting updates on here like so many people, but I just didn't feel up to it.
As far as food for when you get home. I bought a lot of stuff and most of it is still sitting in my cupboard. I ended sending my husband out for the stuff I found I could tolerate, which for me wasn't much (it still isn't). I'd just get a few of the things you know you like now and hope you'll still like them post op. I lived off SF Popsicles and Jello and the only Protein I could stomach was Unjury chicken Soup.< /p>

The best thing I ever took to the hospital with me is my back scratcher! for the hospital I also took my own pillow, toiletries, slippers (for walking the halls), and bath robe. I wore yoga pants, a tshirt and flip flops to the hospital so I could wear them home.

Hi. So I've been MIA for a while but I really need some advice/support. I am 4 weeks post op today but had complications and had surgery for a bowel obstruction last week. I needed up staying in the hospital for four days. I ate almost nothing, I still am eating almost nothing and my weight is still higher than it was after the second surgery. I have absolutely no energy, I never want to eat anything, go anywhere, do anything. And without the "huge" weight loss that is expected with the surgery, I regret my decision almost daily. I don't know about anyone else but I feel pretty alone right now....

Thank you so much everyone for the well wishes! I'll give an update as soon as I'm feeling up to it. My nerves are starting to get the best of me. I spent the whole day prepping all five of my kids to go stay with friends an family, doing their laundry and precooking meals. Now their all gone and I'm trying to relax. Should be a long night. Good luck to all you other 22'ers out there!
