Exercise and Port Pain
Does starting to exercise make the port pain go away quicker? This is excruciating for me- I can't sit up in bed or lay on my side.....I just had surgery Thursday- but want to be moving around. (without hurting so much)

What shall we call ourselves?
I didn't see anybody posting this yet, but I think we need a name for ourselves....like Merry Bandsters- or something better than that....What do you think?

help hiatal hernia
I just had my surgery Thursday. I had a small hernia that the doctor fixed before he put the band on, but the whole surgery still only took 50 minutes.

Having my band day in December :)
Hey momma! We are band sisters....good luck

Keeping it a secret?
:wacko:I was not going to tell anyone, but then someone asked me why I was having surgery. I said "I'd rather not say." They looked down at my belly and said "does it have something to do with a band?" That's when I figured out I might as well tell everyone who will listen since it will hopefully be obvious after I lose a bunch of weight!!

Out of Pocket expense after insurance
My out of pocket is 2500 a year. So that's how much I'll have to pay. I started this journey in July & my surgery date is Dec 13th. I haven't received any bills yet.....that'll be a scary day!

So let me ask you this...
I new it was time when my sister had her baby girl. I had been trying to get pregnant for a while too. I could get pregnant with medication if I wanted to, but the weight makes it an issue. Anyway, besides that my sister was addicted to heroin when she had her baby. I decided that having a baby when I am fat is so unhealthy that it comes close to being as bad as what my sister did. I called the doctor's office to set up an appointment the day after I held my niece in the drug addicted babies ward.

Got a date! CPAP is making me pass out??
Hi! I finally got a tentative date for the surgery Dec 13th as long as everything falls into place before then. I had to start wearing the CPAP at night but it doesn't seem to be working. I feel like I can't breath & then I get to a point when I think I'm going to pass out. After I get a headache I take the machine off and go to sleep without it. Anybody have any advice for me? I've only tried for two nights, but I have to wear this thing for 2 weeks before the surgery at least....HELP!:faint:

Things People Pass Off For Compliments and Things Skinny People Say That Piss You Off
My brother in law was talking about a family member in front of my whole skinny husband's side of the family. He said, "you know Lisa, the big fat bitch." Later everyone apologized to me because he said fat when I was in the room- talk about embarassing, I hadn't even noticed! Now I know what his family is thinking when I'm around- what a fattie...

Frustrating Psych Results!!
Well, I got my insurance approval for surgery and I was all excited. Then, the Dr's office called me today and let me know that I am not approved because my psych consult result was that I have Major Depressive Disorder. They are requiring 3 months of counseling before the surgery now. That means that surgery will be next year and will cost twice as much since I'll have to pay my deductible twice. How lovely! Makes me so much less depressed to hear that great news...

nocturnal Pulse Ox Study question
I have this pulse ox to wear at night for a nocturnal study to see if I need a sleep study. Only problem is that I don't see how they expect this thing to stay on my finger? I woke up in the middle of the night and it had come off who knows when and the machine had shut off. Anybody else had this problem or have advice?

Any other Scheduled October Bandsters out there??
Hi there- I will be an October bandster, too! I don't have my date yet but I have my preop class on Sept 24th. It was weird when they told me I was approved. I didn't expect the insurance to be so easy & it was almost anticlimactic. I am nervous, but not excited yet. I have to lose another 10 pounds before I get the surgery & I have some more tests to do so I don't want to get too excited in case something goes wrong!!! I don't want to jinx it!

Would you or wouldn't you...
Hi! I just got insurance approval and I am not going to wait, because I already waited long enough to get this thing started. Lucky for me my family serves chicken soup at Thanksgiving and Christmas. I figure I will be so proud to show off my thinning body that I don't care about the dinner. I have absolutely NO qualms about doing it ASAP. If you put it off for holidays are you going to put it off again for some other event? Just do it! :clap2:

Whoa that was easy! Approved!
I'm glad to say that my insurance is going to cover the surgery! I thought I would have a horrible time getting approved- but it went through the first time in less than a month! OH CRAP! Now I actually have to lose another 10 pounds before surgery!:clap2::whoo:

Life after being banded. What's dinner with friends like?
It seems like you wouldn't want to go out during the first week after surgery from what I've been reading! Definitely go out B4! Hurry up and meet those parents!

Devistated......sigh..........
Hey Julie! I have to lose 14 pounds before my surgery. You can do it- it would have been nice if the Dr had told you not to GAIN any weight!! I'm planing on doing a liquid diet for 2 weeks before my pre-op date. My Dr is very firm about me having to lose 14 pounds or else he WILL reschedule. That is very scary to me! Keep us updated on what is happening with you. I'm cheering for you!

Embarrassed, ashamed, scared, HELP PLEASE!
Jennifer- I'm not banded yet, but have been reading these posts regularly while waiting for approval. It seems to me that if your band has slipped you would be feeling a lot of pain & not be able to eat anything. Good Luck!:clap2:

Things People Pass Off For Compliments and Things Skinny People Say That Piss You Off
My worst comment so far came from my mother-in-law. We were eating lunch together and talking about how I wanted to have kids soon. She told me to make sure that I didn't make my kids fat, too. Needless to say, I didn't rush out and get pregnant after that comment.:faint:

Psych Eval...WAY too long, WAY WAY too long
Wow- that is definitely a good example of why they SHOULD have the psych eval!

Whats the biggest weight loss myth you have ever heard?
I think my mother is finally starting to understand me. She said all she had to do to lose weight when she was younger was think "I want to lose weight." Now she has gone through menopause and is close to hypothyroidism. She works out all the time and eats pretty well and can't lose a pound! With Xenical- I had to wear a pad and I kept checking my seat at work to make sure there wasn't an oil slick. How embarassing!

Psych Eval...WAY too long, WAY WAY too long
Does anybody else think it is really weird that you have to get a psych eval for this surgery? They don't make you get a psych eval for ANY other surgery- except maybe sex change. I can't even imagine the extreme depression that would result from getting denied by insurance! Like that poor black lady in Big Medicine who moved to Texas so she could get the surgery and then got denied! I wanted to pay for HER surgery (cept I'm totally broke). :cry

New Poll: How long is this going to take?
Thanks so much for your responses. I know what you mean about calling the Dr and they are booked up for years. I had to wait a month before I could even go for the consultation! I have my psych eval scheduled for Monday. They are going to do a pulse ox test at night and hopefully I won't need a sleep study! Ick!
