Yes it makes sense, I was sleeved 12/11/13. The scale has not moved in a week. I am just trying to keep up my Protein and fluids. Going to start exercising soon. This forum has truly been a blessing to me so keep doing what you doing and posting for support.

Okay...you can eat a french fry...will you? it is up to you! Is it a good choice of course not and you know better then to even ask..I know you do..
But we are human and will try things that do not sit well with us and things that sit too well with us...You will have to decide for yourself if it is worth it or not....
I have eaten a french fry or two in my journey.....some don't agree with how I see things on this topic...but I am keeping it real and know that this is my life course that I am taking...If anyone says they don't try these. then they fib!
I can't eat fried foods very well..they make me sick...I can't even eat Chinese food anymore and that was my personal favorite food in the world.. you may find that you hate fries altogether....who knows!!!!!!!!!!
I had a lot of rules for myself going into this journey just like some of the former posters on here..I loved the fortitude I thought I had..take no prisoners..Life does not follow a script..And we don't either....

I probably would have gone for a french fry in the future (although I was never a big french-fry eater), except that my new stomach REALLY hates potatoes in any form! (thank God)

I was sleeved 12/10/13. I lost 43 pounds pre-op. I have been "eating" Protein Drinks, Greek yogurt, Soups and puddings. I have only lost about 10 pounds post-op. (I did gain 11pounds in the hospital). Here is my fear...I am hardly eating. When I am able to eat more, how am I possibly going to continue to lose weight when i am barely eating now and the weigh loss has been slow? Does this make sense to anyone else?

I was admitted to the hospital Friday. I got out this morning.
I was severely dehydrated, dangerously low on magnesium and potassium. I went in because I have a horrible pain right above my appendix scar. I feel like someone is stabbing with a hot knife but it iis just dermal, not deep.
So they figured out that two of my internal stitches are rubbing against a main nerve going down my belly. The stitches are slightly infected and have caused my nerve to become inflammmed. If you have ever had shingles it is very similar. They also found a kidney stone but it is not blocking so that is good. The stone was imbedded in my kidney tissue but with the fat loss I guess it got loose and dropped into the kidney it self.
Pissed at myself because I feel like I failed. Doc said it is just something that happened. I need to have 64oz of Water and not include my Protein Shakes in liquid intake. I may need more due to my lupus. He said my Protein level was very good and I'm doing everything right it was just a slight setback.
But I am so hard on myself and such a perfectionist I just cred the whole time I was laying in that hospital bed. I tried so hard not to get there and I did anyway.
    Frustrated......

I've told almost no one and I'm glad. Many of those who know (out of just 11 people total) are the people who do 2 things: Over-compliment my weight loss each day (bizarre, it's truly not that noticeable) and watch and then comment on what I eat. Ugh. They mean well, they are not critical usually - they want the best for me. Lots of people on this site have told everyone, and some people have told very few. I'm just a private person and very independent so I didn't want to hear constant comments or have them watch my food intake. That was my choice - we all have to find that balance of who to tell and who not to tell.
One piece of advice during this journey - don't put too much credence on what others think about the surgery or what they reflect back to you about the surgery or your future weight loss, if at all possible! Unless they have had surgery, they don't know your journey and it seems that a lot of other peoples' insecurities and pain will come at you as you experience success -- be strong for yourself and stand up for what you're doing, regardless of who you tell and what their reactions are. You are in this for YOU.

It is amazing how other people can have such an impact on our lives. My husband and I were sleeved. He made the decision to tell no one. I have told my daughter and 1 dear friend, a nurse. I would rather be open about it, but respect his wishes. At my age, 67, I no longer have friends who are judgmental, or family. My life is too short for that nonsense.
One thing, I am sure the people some of you have told have told others. Nature of the universe lol. But who cares, it is your life. Treasure it and guard it from negative people. Just distance yourself. Blessings to you!!

LindafromFlorida got a reaction from FibroDiva in Irritable Bowel Syndrome Pre-surgery
I would give up the sugar! I have had long term diverticulitis and irritable bowel syndrome. I am doing great a little over 1 month post op, and 3 months pre-op diet. My husband is diabetic and I was on metformin for diabetes, so we eat no sugar. You may have a problem with gas after your surgery, which causes pain. But the dumping and problems you can have from carbs, sugar and fried foods after surgery will cause you to steer clear from these foods. You may get by with a taste or two at times but I think there is always a risk. At a peer to peer meeting this week a lady described a terrible scenario after eating pineapple. Personally I don't want to experience this so I will leave the fruit alone. You and I have a long way to go and a lot to learn during this journey, and we have to do our best to follow the guidelines we are given. I have had no stomach problems following surgery, and I am focusing on eating healthy with Protein and Fiber (which is recommended for our stomachs), and hope to stay this way. All of us experience a problem with food at times in our life, and your stomach wasn't rejecting the cake. I guess it didn't want it. I also decided I will not go back on Diet Coke, after 4 months I know I do not need it and can live without it. Saving me some money! You will survive this with a new healthier YOU! Good luck!

We remember feeling the same. Somehow the time will be over before you know it. Just read and study, get your Vitamins purchased, get your little bag ready for the hospital, and keep yourself busy. My husband was told there could bad problems because of his weight, diabetes, blood pressure, sleep apnea, etc, and he carried a worried look for two months - making me think he did not want the surgery. I kept questioning him. He wanted it. Today we are both 1 month post op and almost 1 month post op, and doing great. The surgery was 10 times easier than we expected. Do not read the scary posts here, focus on the positives. This is a wonderful tool to learn everything you need to know from others as you make this journey. Merry Christmas!

You will not need help. You will be okay. I think we are expecting the worst but honestly I took 1 dose of pain med at home. I rested a couple days then went shopping. I am 67. I have shopped ever since, feeling great, and not going through any fast food drive throughs either!!! The surgery date will be here before you know it. Busy yourself getting your Vitamins, getting your shakes and Soups stocked, the broth, etc. Merry Christmas!

Yes, you still need your willpower not to over do and over eat. Learn from others on this forum. We have all made mistakes. We are all learning new things every day. But when in doubt, call your doctor and don't look for medical advice here LOL! I learned after 3 weeks what happens when you hurry when eating and don't chew your food well enough! Merry Christmas!

LindafromFlorida got a reaction from venushome1 in Neuropathy - foot pain gone!
I think this is amazing. Three weeks after the sleeve, I realized my terrible foot pain was gone, with about a 25-lb. weight loss. Two years ago this pain began in my feet, and at first I thought it was arthritis in my feet, buying expensive foot creams that did not work. I just suffered at night. Finally saw an ad on tv about Lyrica and neuropathy, and my doctor prescribed it. After a month I had several blistering ugly reactions on my toes, and had to come off the med. Then 3 months ago I was prescribed Metformin for diabetes. Now I am off Metformin, hope I never have to take insulin (my husband has had diabetes 35 years), and no neuropathy. I am one happy woman. I can shop again (everyday for a few hours) knowing I won't be in agony at night.

I had the sleeve 11/18 and my husband 12/2. You are a Mom and that brings different stresses for you, trying to take care of your children and home, and God only knows what else. We are 66 and 67 years old, and I have been shopping and walking for three weeks with great energy, where I was depressed and couch sitting for this past year, being fat and miserable. Trust me, by next week you are going to feel much better. Mentally and physically. I think the fear of the unknown following this surgery scares us. There are so many positive posts here, and answers for almost everything, and good friends to make. Have a wonderful Christmas, and if you need a pickme up just add me as a friend and tell me! Heres a hug......

LindafromFlorida got a reaction from Nevermore in The Pre-Op Crazies
Being in our mid sixties, and having dieted all our lives, my husband and I decided to do the sleeve as our health worsened, keeping us chained to our comfy chairs instead of having fun and living. We both have diabetes, I have asthma and a knee replacement so walking is hard, we both have high blood pressure, and he has a heart stent for a heart blockage, neuropathy, can hardly walk due to prior back surgery, and sleep apnea - using oxygen.
I share this with you because if you remain overweight, this is what you face as you get older, which will definitely shorten your lifespan. Ten years ago when we began the gastric seminars, if they had had the sleeve, we would have opted for it and been healthier today. I hope that you think of these things as you make the final decisions as to whether or not to have surgery. Best of luck!

The holidays are the hardest, but missing food on one holiday is just a step in your journey. There is SF apple cider in the grocery stores. It will be worth it now to eat. Be thankful! Count your blessings!

I'm like you - my sleeve doesn't like dry chicken, potatoes (unless well mashed), rice, and I've never tried bread or bread type products as I don't want to go down that route - would end up eating way too much of it... too much sugary products (more than a couple spoons) gives me the sweats too..

I know, sounds weird right?? But do you know why I'm miserable? I ate dessert at our christmas/birthday dinner and although I ate only 4 spoons of mousse, it made me sooooooo sick! first real helping of dessert since the surgery and I swear I thought I was going to hurl, sweat, and pass out and the only issue was which was going to happen first.
A little walk around the restaurant cured me but I was so so so glad that my sleeve didn't love the sugar. Other things she hates: bread, potatoes and dry chicken, all of which go thunk really hard. All else has been easily tolerated.
I know this won't always be true and at some point, if I keep "trying" my sleeve might adjust to the sugar but today, I'm thankful it didn't. Part of me kept hoping I'd really have a horrible reaction so I'd associate sugar with bad outcomes, and the rest of my brain didn't want to ruin my son's birthday lunch. Also, as a carb addict, I know it's not that simple. I wish we always felt bad if we did bad things, but if that were true, I wouldn't have needed the sleeve, right?
    What does your sleeve hate?
