Check out Torani SF syrups. Flavor the shakes with crystal light, sf pudding powders, I hate milk so I use Water. chocolate is better than vanilla, and Torani has a SF chocolate syrup or gingerbread, etc. Experiment! Good luck!

Social Events
We have avoided restaurants with friends because we tell them we are still on our lifelong diet (lol) rather than share our surgery procedures. Thank goodness the holidays are over. My husband and I both were sleeved, so at one party I got one small plate with 2 meatballs and 2 devilled eggs and we shared. No one noticed. We will continue avoiding eating out right now until we are further along. We can go anywhere and eat certain things, but I tend to talk and eat faster than I should, and I already had one choking type problem. Honestly, we are just enjoying not having the urge to stuff ourselves! So happy!

Question?
We have a person who works for the hospital who checks everything for us, and we could go to her and she would find the answers. My husband knew he had sleep apnea bad but never would go to the doctor. This surgery forced him to get pulmonary clearance, thank God, and he is now sleeping with his cpap and oxygen. He is 1 month post op so I am hoping one day he can come off it when he loses weight. Good luck!!!!! So happy for you, like us, getting to change your lives with this surgery.

Asking for Positive Thoughts Please
Nancy, so glad you went for yourself! You know, our love of food has us where we are today and I can sure appreciate your culture and good food. But, I do know that you can learned to cook new and tasty dishes with your spices and recipes. I grew up in the South, in Georgia, and we fried everything. Our staples were fried chicken, porkchops, mac and cheese, chicken and dumplings, gravy and biscuits. I associate those foods with my childhood and my family. But I have had to let go of all that, for the lives of me and my husband. High blood pressure and diabetes, plus other life altering problems. My husband had a heart blockage 10 years ago, and I can tell you he lived life to eat red meat such as steak. He is already wondering if he can ever eat steak again, and I will tell you, I won't cook them for him LOL. I think you should spend some time busying yourself like I did, gathering recipes and seeing how you can rework them in the crockpot and using lowfat Soups, etc. I think some of the sugar free syrups can be used in simple things like sweet and sour sauces. I saw a cook on tv recently coat chicken with a light dusting of cornstarch, and stir fry it, adding some sugar free ingredients, for a chinese stir fry with half the calories. Since it is only me and my husband, we are fortunate not to be around large quantities of food. That would be hard. Also, since you mention you are on a restricted budget, that will be challenging, but good news, the Beans are part of our diet for the Protein, so just try and leave the rice off. I am offering suggestions only, so hope you do not think I am intruding. I wish you the absolute best of luck. I looked at your page, and like me and my husband, I know you may likely be having some health issues. I hope we can get out of our chairs and be able to walk, and this all will be so worth it. Please let me know how you are doing and I will be here to support you!!! Happy New Year to you!!! Linda

Slim Fast Pre Op Diet
I am amazed at that! I agree with you band. I like Premier Protein best of all, and the 30 g protein. Walmart sells EAS Protein shakes, but only 17 g protein. Best of luck to you all!

I want a coke soooo bad!
I never liked Crystal Light peach tea (my husband's favorite). Now I love it lol. I have been addicted to diet Coke many years and now I do not even want one. Very strange. Over the years I have read so many bad things about cola products that I am glad I am off them. You might save a lot of money if you can get used to not drinking them lol. One peer said she is 6 months post op and now can sip on one.

This is it!
I began Metformin several months ago and after surgery they took me off. My husband is a 30-year diabetic with terrible problems. We have HOPE that things will be better! I have dieted all my life but finally lost that battle. Add in asthma, knee replacement, the diabetes, high blood pressure, well you get the picture. I have a wonderful New Year's resolution! I resolve t start living. Simply put. I was sitting in a chair all year, this first year of my retirement, seeing no quality of life ahead. I was afraid to travel because of my husband's diabetic episodes of low blood sugar, or high blood sugar. Here's (CHEERS!) TO US! BEST WISHES!

Weight gain on soft foods?
RELAX! I felt the amount of food I was eating should have caused me to weigh 50 lbs lol. Your metabolism is changing. Don't focus on the scale, focus on living. Just follow your doctor's advice. Stay busy! Happy New Year!
