  1. I don't have a PhD, but I'm pretty sure that it is very common practice to fix the hernia with the sleeve. A hiatal hernia is where a portion of your stomach has bulged above the diaphragm. The surgeon would fix this in order to even perform the VSG. A high majority of surgeons remove the gall bladder if there are any stones present, or remove it as a preventative measure. I know I went back to work about a week after my gall bladder was removed with no problems at all. I haven't had my sleeve yet, so I'm unable to help with an estimated recovery time. Good luck and best wishes on your journey, April
  2. That is going to help a lot of people out that have trouble finding a Center of Excellence nearby. I drive so far. But I am very happy with the surgeon I've chosen and the care I've received thus far.
  3. Nope, but that will be my mission today. Finding a probiotic.
  4. Hey there, I'm super excited for you and can't wait to follow in your footsteps. Good luck. See you on the flip side!
  5. I have one shake each morning and the rest of my day is like Atkins. But small portions. For three months. But that daily shake tears up my tummy. I'm gonna try it with kefir next. Both Water and nonfat milk were so disgusting, then add on top of that the diarrhea. Omg. I already take protonix twice a day for IBS and GERD. I didn't have any problems til these shakes. I guess this is how I'm gonna lose preop weight... Running to the restroom all day. Lol My surgery is hopefully in December.
  6. Horrible this is happening to you but at least I know I'm not alone. I can't stray far from the porcelain throne after my Protein shake. I'm preop and am on a supervised diet. Having one protein shake a day is a requirement. Ugh.
  7. At my first appt I was put on 50 k a week. I was told if it was too low that it could delay my surgery until it rose to a certain level
  8. Bow chica wow wow.... You look great!!
  9. I'm on a three month diet, but it's not due to an insurance stipulation. It's something my weight loss clinic does.
  10. Yeah. I think it's going to be very doable. I lost a lot of weight on Atkins before... Of course I gained it back lol. I tried my first Bariatric Advantage shake today and it was like I'm being punished! Ha! I'm sure I can choke them down and get used to them.
  11. Mine was different. I went to my surgeon who is at a Center Of Excellence ( Journey Clinic ) first and they did everything for me. Scheduled all of my weight mgmt/nut appointments, psych, physical therapy evaluation, etc. all I have to do is show up to my appts and stick to the diet outlined. They are the ones who contacted my insurance ( Medicare Humana Gold ) and regular doctor and it has been easy as pie so far.
  12. Surely that was actually meant for Mel. You being asked why not switch doctors.
  13. I went to my first nut appt today. I was put on a diet very similar to Atkins with the exception of a protein shake for breakfast and a snack of cottage cheese, low fat cheese or Greek yogurt with a little fruit. I only have a three month diet though. Unless I don't stick to it. Otherwise they will extend it out further. Ugh.
  14. Congrats Sherry!! It'll be here before you know it. I went to my first nut appt and a physical therapy checkup. The nut put me on a diet similar to Atkins and the phys therapist wants me to use a spirometer three times a day to strengthen my lungs before surgery.
  15. When you dwell on what others think of you, you're picking up their **** and carrying it around with you. You can't embrace your own life if your hands are too full of someone else's ****. Put it down. Everyone has their own insecurities and, unfortunately, as you keep losing weight your friends are going to make comparisons. You have to let it roll off your back and let them come to terms with their own issues. With this type of surgery the weight loss is so rapid that it is definitely not something that is going to go unnoticed. You just have to keep your own head in the game and remember that no matter what weight your friend may be, she has her own self image in her head that she's dealing with.
  16. Wowza! Very inspirational weight loss!
  17. Hi there! I have GERD and take protonix twice a day so it is very controlled. Because it is so controlled, I am still approved for surgery. Looking at around December for mine
  18. Congrats!! I hope to be following along in your footsteps soon
  19. Oh, hell no. I'd be in jail for domestic violence if he tried to sabotage my diet.... but no man lives with me so I'm safe.lol
  20. I've ALWAYS been attracted to bigger guys, and I've not always been a big girl. There is no way I could date someone too thin or shorter than I am. I'm just not attracted to them at all.
  21. Justin, that's what I worry about. Eating the wrong foods. Don't get me wrong, right now I am at the point where I see my friend (who has the sleeve) eating the same crap she did before she got it and hasn't lost anywhere near where she should be a year later. I'm wondering if I'm gonna end up like her. It scares me.
