Wow! Thank you all for you responses; I really do appreciate it. I have a lot to think about and I really do feel that I am just over thinking it and making myself sick from thinking so much. I know that if I don't do this surgery, I will never get to my desired weight. Thankfully, I do not have any health issues; I have been fairly healthy my whole life. I should think of this surgery as a preventative measure to not end up with Hypertension or diabetes, etc. Thank you so much to all that replied!

You know how a brand new leather shoe feels when you wear it for the first time? Its rigid until you break it in...and it will get better every day. The key is to walk as much as possible. It will not only loosen your new stomach, it will rid your body of the gas that gets trapped during the procedure. I can't stress it enough...walk as much as you can, post-op. You won't experience much pain...just take it slow and don't push yourself too much. I am 8 months post-op and down 90 lbs. It will happen to each of you too! Best wishes on your journeys. :-)

Surgery went great! No complications, he said I did wonderful. I'm in a little pain, but there's this neat little button they gave me to push as needed! Hehe! Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes.

I have to be at the hospital at 5:30, there is no way I'll be going to sleep tonight. I'm so anxious, nervous, excited, all kinds of emotions! I'm not concerned with the actual surgery, just the after surgery part. Please everyone say a prayer for me!

Well that doesn't sound bad at all
Seriously though, is it possible that "your" diet was lower than 1200 cals/day? Maybe you are actually taking more cals in now than before. If so, weight loss could stall or stop.

My NUT had me do the 1200 calorie diet as well (she said that is about how much you'll eat in maintenance, maybe a smudge more). Did she have you use the plate method? 1/2 plate is veggies, 1/4 Protein, 1/4 starch. Im not to use a big dinner plate either. Make sure to get used to eating all your protein first, then veggies, then starch. My NUT also gave me a week "crash course post op diet." I did 3 days of liquids, 2 days purée, and 2 days soft foods. Just to get an idea of what things are like immediately after surgery. I dropped 10 lbs that week! (Hunger wise it was harder Pre op, because post op I just wanted to feel better. I didn't care about food for the first time ever lol). Also, try taking up walking. You will be encouraged to walk as much as possible post up, so that could help you now drop a few more lbs.
    Best of luck!

One of the ways I was successful at losing weight was staying below 20grams of carbs a day - basically that Atkins diet. I never counted the Protein grams or fat grams, just kept very close watch on my carbs.
When I had my pre-op diet, I only drank low carb EAS shakes and ate low fat meats.

If he does have to lose 70 pounds it might not be as difficult as you think. Almost 25 years ago I was on Optifast for 3 months and lost 72 pounds. Of course in my case I regained it all, plus quite a bit more over the course of the next two years after that. There have been two other times in my life (besides this time with the sleeve) where I have lost over 70 pounds.
In your husband's case, all he has to do is to lose the weight, then the surgery will help keep it off. If you read the stories in this forum, there are many people who have lost over 70 pounds on one diet or another, they just couldn't keep it off prior to surgery.
Best of luck to you and your husband.

I started at 384lbs and did not have a weight loss requirement. Surgery weight was 380 and everything went great, so I'm sure he can find a surgeon that doesn't require weight loss

No complications for me. No nausea, no vomiting, no leaks, no pain. If I didn't have 5 funny little scars on my tummy and an inability to eat very much I might think the whole thing never happened. Down 56 lbs, off most medications and I feel fantastic!

I seriously believe that the majority of the people who have never been verweight are different than we are. There is no way that they can be getting the same signals we are and not over eat. Since my surgery I no longer have the tummy screaming at me to fill the bottomless pit. It is tiny and probably now after almost a year getting normal. I can eat small amounts of anything and I am satisified. I think that is the way it is supposed to be. I have lost over 100lbs in the year I have done this and have no regrets. I am much older than you but I wish I could have done this much earlier.. I missed out on a lot of life because of being overweight. I hope you get the support you need but I did this for me. I didn't care what anyone else thought and still dont.
    good luck!!

You'll be fine...I was freaking out too all the way until I saw my surgeons smiling face. Then I was all geared up and ready to go. I was out for like 45 minutes and up in my room in 2hrs. Staring at my husband and family as they asked me a gazillion times if I was alright. Lol. Of course I was and you will be too. see ya on the post op side of this journey ! Mine was 10/10/13 if you're wondering. I'm about 12 days post op.
