  1. I am 7.5 months post op and down 116.4 pounds! I started to get discouraged today because as the numbers get smaller, you don't see those huge changes in your body from month to month. So I thought maybe I should remind myself of where I've started & where I am. I shot this pic after my work out :-)
  2. Good luck! I'm sure we will both do great! Hopefully there will be some adrenaline working in our favor on race day as well! :-)
  3. I agree with what the others have said. Definitely take your measurements. Do you see a nutritionist at all? Perhaps they could give you some specific information based on your food logs as well.
  4. At 8 weeks post op I had lost 48.8 pounds. I count that from the beginning of the pre-op diet. From the day of surgery at 8 weeks post op I had lost 41 pounds (lost 7.8 during pre-op diet). It's not such I huge difference for me, so I don't split hairs. I just go with the higher number, since it was only 7 pounds difference.
  5. Oh I see. Well I think the jury is still out on caffeine. You'll find as many articles saying it's bad as you will saying it's ok. I don't have a problem with it :-)
  6. You all look completely amazing! Isn't it an awesome feeling!!!??? I remember looking through this thread early on in my process and thinking how amazing it would be to be able to post on here one day in my own "LBD".... well 114 pounds later, I'm going shopping for my very own LBD for an upcoming wedding this month. WHOOOHOOOO! I'll be back with pics when I find it!
  7. Omg!!! That's fantastic, can you please tell me what you think the key to your success is? Any tips would be great, I will be sleeved on May 9th. Thank you! :-) I think the biggest things for me has been (1) knowing my limitations, and (2) sticking to my numbers. I've learned that while some people are fine eating small amounts of "unhealthy" foods now and then, I am not. I was an emotional over-eater/binge eater, and that is just too easy to slip back into. I have to be strict with myself and avoid altogether my trigger foods. Knowing yourself is SO important. It's a total reprogramming. Secondly, sticking to my numbers involves tracking my food. I count everything on myfitnesspal. My username is livvsmum if you want to friend me. I make all my food logs viewable. I try my best to stick to no more than 40g of carbs, at least 65-70g of Protein, and at least 10 8-oz glasses of Water per day. When I do that consistently, I see a loss. I also think exercise is super important, but that will be down the road a bit for you :-) Good luck to you, and trust me....if I can do it and be successful, anyone can!!! lol
  8. I think the hardest thing for me has not been a specific food or anything like that, that I've had to give up. For me I think the biggest struggle has been in finding new ways to deal with my stress and my urge to engage in emotional and stress eating. It's something I deal with every.single.day. and probably will forever.
  9. Just curious, why is this terrible? I love the chike iced coffee Protein Shake? Just want to make sure I"m not missing something.... lol
  10. At 3 months post op I lost 62.8 pounds. I'm now 7 months post op and have lost 114 pounds, 18 more until goal.
  11. Checking in. I got to the end of week 5 and felt like the intervals were distracting me. I decided one day just to run and forget about the app and see how long I could run. I ran 25 minutes uninterrupted, which was way longer than the 8 or so I was getting through at one time with the app. So, I felt pretty good about that and skipped ahead on the app to week 7 day 3, which for my app, is running 25 minutes. So hopefully within a couple of weeks I should be at the full 5K. Then I need to start transitioning to running outside instead of the treadmill. My 5k is June 1st, so I feel pretty good about getting this done! :-) Not sure why I do better running uniterrupted than with the intervals.....anyone else feel this way or experience this?
  12. Starting challenge weight:167 Today's weight: 164.4 Loss: -2.6 Not amazing, but not terrible given that I've not been eating great this week.
  13. I am 7 months post op now & would say that I don't experience hunger the way I did before. Now it's more of just an empty feeling than a feeling of hunger. Also I've learned to better distinguish between hunger & thirst. A lot of the times you "think" you need to eat, you are thirsty. Finally I will be honest & say the first couple of weeks I dealt with head hunger, but it was really just me needing to work through the emotional loss of my coping mechanism- food! Sometimes if I'm experiencing a lot of stress I'll notice head hunger, but it is easy to push past.
  14. I had to switch half way through too. I did 4 months in one program & then switched to a new one. It was pretty seamless. They had all of the appointment notes, tests, etc from the first place so I just picked up where they left off & had my surgery scheduled after the first visit. I definitely didn't have to start the process over. Good luck to you!
  15. Here's my most recent before/after pic. 7 months post op, 112 pounds lost, 20 to goal
  16. So this is a 5-week challenge, right? I just want to make sure I'm counting correctly so I set the right goal. Starting challenge weight (after splurging a little more than I should have on Easter): 167.0 Memorial Day challenge goal weight: 157.0 That would be super exciting for me because it would move me to a "normal" BMI range :-)
  17. Weighing in..... 166 this morning, down 2.6 for the week & I reached my Easter goal of 10 pounds lost :-)
  18. It looks like you and I both started around the same weight. I would say it was between 40-50 pounds lost when people really started to notice. I still get comments almost daily from people at work and church. It doesn't get old....lol. I answer the questions if they are from people I'm comfortable with, or not if not. It really is a case by case basis, although no one at works knows I had surgery, only my close friends and family.
  19. I'm 7 months post op. My daily goals / limits are no more than 40g carbs (30 is what I shoot for), at least 65-70g Protein, and at least 80 ounces of Water. As of today I've lost 111 pounds, so yes, it seems to be working :-) It is easy to pick the carb-laden foods because they are the snack foods and the foods that we are used to. It definitely takes some work to make other choices. Are there times I would rather grab a handful of pretzels than a cheese stick or greek yogurt? HECK YES!!! lol. But then I try to think about "nutritional value" and carbs bring little to the table there. I've been tracking everything I eat in myfitnesspal and that has taught me a lot about the nutritional value of foods and what exactly is in our food and how much. I would recommend that for sure. Once you look at the actual benefit or value from those carb-heavy foods, it makes it a lot easier to reach for the protein instead :-)
  20. I started back on coffee around 3-4 weeks. The research out there on the pros/cons of coffee on weight loss and after weight loss surgery is divided in conclusions. So basically, I would go with whatever you and your surgeon are most comfortable with. For me, it has been totally fine.
  21. This is great! I just have to say that I've been blogging since my first pre-op doc appointment and early on I wrote a blog post about my "bucket" list for after surgery. It was very helpful and motivational for me. I went back to that post again and again when I would doubt my decision to have the surgery (before) and when I would be having a rough day in the first couple of weeks after surgery. It's been awesome to go back to that list now and see that I've checked off a majority of the "bucket list" items and it's only been 7 months since surgery! Good for you, and keep this list somewhere so you can go back to it! You will need the reminder at some points along the journey of why you've made this decision and what you hope to gain from it beyond losing weight.
  22. I was going to say just this. It probably makes sense that you are seeing more posts from people who have recently undergone the surgery because that is when we feel we need the most support. I've seen it in myself as well over the past couple of months kind of forgetting to check in etc...... That in combination that the surgery itself is only a few years old as someone else mentioned.
  23. 168.6 today for a loss of 2.6 for the week. Not what I had hoped for, but we were at Disney for the week & I didn't eat completely clean, so pretty good I think, given that :-)
  24. 171.2 -3 this week
