Man Sleeved got a reaction from ejsfanatic in Goal Met, Goal Set!
Previous Short Term Goal Met: Loss of 75 lb within three months of surgery. New Goal Short Term Set: Be under 200lb by Christmas morning. This may prove difficult as Thanksgiving and Christmas are both holidays of yummy foods and beverage. I have 25lb (aprx 87,500 kcal) to work off and 59 days which equals 0.43 lb per day or aprx 1,450 kcal per day (through exercise and diet) to loose. When this goal is accomplished I will have lost at least 148lb from my highest weight and at least 101lb from pre-surgical weight. On December 31, 2012 a close friend challenged me to lose 100lb within one year and attend an annual hiking/camping event, which I declined to attend last year due to my lack of physical fitness. With the completion of my last goal and the setting of this new one I am on track to meet his challenge. I realize that fitness is not a function of weight loss alone but for me it is the first step. I even bought a new sleeping bag in preparation for the hiking trip. #movemoreeatless #nothingtastesasgoodasskinnyfeels #lessass #livelife #lessofaman

I didn't drink during the two week pre-op diet. But I did have one last trip with friends to World of Beers. I love Belgium Trappist ales, so it was my last time to enjoy bottles of Chimay and Rochefort for a long time. I definitely don't plan on giving up drinking forever. That's just crazy talk. Even my doctor told me that eventually I'll be able to drink again, just that I'll be an cheap date since the alcohol will enter my system so much quicker. I'll also only be able to have maybe one drink and have to drink it very slowly. I'm also a fine wine connoisseur and have a decent amount at home. I am not giving up on those bottles since far too much money is invested. Most of the bottles won't reach their peak for a few years, so I've got time on my side.

I did not, but I am a craft beer aficionado. Earlier this year I was on a road trip through Colorado and stopped at a bunch of local breweries to try what they had. I didn't at the time but now kind of look at it as a farewell tour lol. I will miss a nice, cold, hoppy and carbonated IPA.

I stepped on the scale this morning and in the 23 days since I started my two week preop diet, I'm down 45 pounds. 23 pounds in the last 9 days since my surgery. I'm in awe.

I got no real answer here, just an observation. A few years ago I lost 120 pounds the hard way. At the time I called it "diet and exercise", but what I was really doing was starving myself, and I could not maintain it....but that's another story. Anyway, people would always comment on the weightloss, and then immediately follow up with the inevitable question, "how did you do it?" I think they really want to hear some solution that they had not thought of or heard about. When I said "diet and exercise," 9 times out of 10 I could see a wave of disappointment come over their faces. As if to say, "oh, that....to hard."
Now when people ask me, I tell them I had gastric sleeve surgery, and I get a myriad of looks from shock, surprise, bewilderment, confusion, curiosity and hope. What I never get is disappointment. I find it funny. Some people really want to know more about it, some people already have their mind made up. And some end up walking away scratching their heads. I always end up smiling to myself thinking, "you asked."
