Kindle got a reaction from Inner Surfer Girl in I'm freaking HUNGRYYYY! Eeerrrrgggg!
I would have reacted the same as your surgeon. Why should he bother wasting his time if you are not going to do your part? Not to mention risking serious complications by eating bacon 1 week after having your stomach cut open along its entire length!

I would certainly like to hear from the veteran veterans about ways to overcome the struggles that come up at those 3 , 4, 5 year marks. i keep getting hints that things are gonna change, so am feeling a little apprehensive as I approach the 3 year mark. I think details about the new challenges and advice from those that have been there done that would be extremely helpful in preparing for the future. I welcome your advice.

Telling you not to drink 20/30 min before and after your Protein shake is just stupid. The only reason for that rule is to not flush solids through your sleeve too soon so that you end up eating more than you should. So it really doesnt apply with Protein shakes . Fluids are fluids. And even the eating/drinking rule is archaic, carried over from the rules of bypass with no real logic behind it when it comes to VSG because out pyloric valve s still intact.
I say do what you've gotta do to get in all your protein and fluids and ignore the stupid rules that don't make sense and actually impede your ability to reach goals. And, BTW, that 64oz is a minimum you should aim for. You should actually shoot for more than that, especially if you are excercising, live in a warm climate, are experiencing a stall, diarrhea or Constipation. I actually got dehydrated on 64oz and now get 100oz every day.

What are you eating? I was getting all of my Protein from day 5 on, even in full liquid stage. Here were some of my favorites.....protein shakes made with milk for extra protein, refried Beans, scrambled eggs, deviled ham, cottage cheese, soft cheeses, plain Greek yogurt flavored with Protein Powder, pureed tuna fish with a little mustard, pureed split pea Soup and and bean soup. And I mixed unflavored protein powder in EVERYTHING....mashed potatoes, lobster bisque, oatmeal, cream of asparagus, egg drop soup, baby food, broths, etc.

I always tried to find ways to sneak extra Protein into everything, even normally carby dishes.
...add vanilla Protein Powder to the egg batter of French toast
...add Garden of Life Raw Fit, an extra egg and unflavored powder to Bob's Red Mill whole grain pancake mix. Tastes even better than regular. I make a big batch, freeze em and have 30 second microwave Protein pancakes anytime I Want!
....mix my whole grain Cereal (Kashi Golean or bran nuts) into Greek yogurt watered down with a little milk.
...use Premier Protein vanilla as my coffee Creamer. Or even the chocolate when I'm in the mood for a mocha.
....muscle milk cake batter protein powder, milk and cottage cheese tastes like cheesecake!
....OJ and vanilla protein powder frozen makes a great dreamsicle
It's crazy how many new things I've discovered that are so yummy, and still good for me.

I ate these a lot in soft food stage. I actually added egg and unflavored Protein Powder in the mix as well, for even more Protein.< /p>

My surgeon gave me a list of recommended blood tests to do at 3, 6. 12 months and annually after that. I took it to my PCP and he has taken care of all of that. My OB/Gyn actually offered to do the bloodwork, too. That's the only followup care I ever needed. I have a gastroenterologist that could have stepped in if I'd had any problems or my PCP would have referred me to a bariatric specialist.

I guess I've got a below average capacity. At 8 weeks a could barely finish 2 tablespoons and then I'd be stuffed for 1/2 day. Even a piece of string cheese was two meals. Now I'm 28 months out and have been maintaining below goal for over a year and a half. If it's mostly liquid (like soup) I MIGHT be able to finish a whole cup of something. But anything with any density, I'm limited to about 1/2 cup. I get in what I need by eating 6-8 times/day. This has been my max capacity and hasn't really changed since about 14 months out. THANK GOODNESS!

Imagine someone who has had open heart surgery, or a hip replacement, or an ACL repair. Do you think the way they feel the first month or two postop bares any resemblance whatsoever to how the will feel at six months or a year or 5 years? Absolutely not. WLS is no different. You just had 85% of a major organ removed. Of course it's gonna suck for awhile. Not sure why you thought it wouldn't.
It Took 4 months before I felt "normal".....suffered through diarrhea, then Constipation, struggled to eat cause I was always "full", needed IV fluids 3 times for dehydration.....but I still never regretted surgery for a second. I knew these were all just part of the process.

Kindle got a reaction from Swinde37 in Vacation
My surgery was the end of December so I was on my liquid diet through 3 holiday parties, a birthday party, a funeral, Christmas and New Year's Day. I just sipped Water, broth and Protein shakes through all of it. Make your vacation about having fun and spending time with your family, not about the food you can't eat.
(Bummer to be around all that chocolate, though )
