Yesterday when I got out of church I decided to take a picture with my husband since we both looked so nice. After looking at the picture some more, I realized that I had a picture in that same dress from before I had the surgery. I tracked down the picture and made a side by side comparison. I was already happy with how I look but seeing the before and after got me even more excited! I'm so grateful for this surgery and what it is doing to my life! I am so much more confident now and I'm still in the beginning stages of my journey. I can't wait to see what the future holds for the new me!

I had surgery 7 weeks ago and have lost 36 lbs. I have been blessed to not have any negative comments. The best compliments I have gotten:
"I'm so proud of you!" ~ My amazing husband!
"My wife is hot!!" ~ From my awesome husband while I've worn a nice dress or basketball shorts and a shirt. He always called me beautiful and complimented me but because I am gaining more confidence and letting it show I think he feels more free to make a comment like that and know that I will receive it in a positive way and believe him.
"Skinny Mini!" ~ From a number of people at my church.
"How is my favorite skinny Puerto Rican?" ~ From my neighbor Joe. He always called me his favorite Puerto Rican (Though I'm pretty sure I'm the only Puerto Rican he knows!!) but he added the skinny on there recently.

Yesterday I was feeling down because the scale hasn't moved in a while. Yesterday I weighed 203.8 lbs. Today I weigh 198.2!!! I'm 8 weeks out and that's my biggest loss. Can't tell you how much my mood has improved.

Today I stepped on the scale and it read 285.8. Never again will it be that high. Today I start my pre preop diet. 40-45 grams of carbs. No refined sugars, no pop. Then in a few weeks I will begin the liquid diet for 2 weeks before surgery. I'm really hoping that I can go into surgery weighing 265 or less. Regardless of the number, today is the day I begin to take charge. From now on my pants will never be tighter than the last time I put them on. Today I begin winning the battle! Who's with me?

I wanted to just throw this out there and hope that someone who is on the fence or too scared to take the plunge for vsg or who is struggling post op sees this!
I had my vsg jan 29 2013 I was 330 pounds and miserable I couldnt even play with my then 1 year old the way she should have been played with. I was severly dependenet on my fiance to help care for not only me but taking the brunt of our 1 year olds care. I had tried and stuggled my entire life, I am 23 and had high blood pressure and was in pain constantly and just the simplest tasks exhausted me. I did not want to live this way any more, its not really living.
I had my surgery and bam I lost nothing for about 2 months, I joined a gym and said to heck with it I will be fit and healthy regardless of what my scale says. So I ate right and began running, I saw a whole new me come out. The better version of me that was being smothered by my fat insecure unhappy self. I found myself at 23 and as of today 114 pounds down. I regret nothing.
My now 2 year old and I play, and run to the park a mile away. She laughs and runs and I can catch her and toss her in the air til she giggles uncontrolably, I can carry her through the whole mall without putting her down. I can love and
play with her and be here for the long term now.
I am in no way perfect, and yes I am struggling now but I know I will get to my goal of 175, I am 212 now so it will happen. I am going to enjoy my size 16 butt cause the alternative was a size 26! Dont give up it is worth it, for a better future and a chance to live.

I had my surgery on July 26th. I had all those feelings and emotions too. I pray and it definitely makes a difference for me! Now, make sure that when they are doing all of the pre-op tests and questions that you are honest about everything. Make sure you really think about your answers and don't leave anything out..even if you don't think it matters. That way all of you bases are covered.
Also, when you talk to the anesthesiologist make sure that you ask him all the questions you are thinking about. I had seen in one episode of Grey's Anatomy that a patient woke up in the middle of the surgery and also another when a patient was paralyzed but could feel what was happening. The anesthesiologist assured me that in his career he has never seen anything like that. That they have all sorts of safety measures in place and that's why they monitor all of your stats while you are having your surgery. I felt a little silly making comments about a TV show but it was on my mind so I said it to him and he answered my questions. I felt better. So just be honest and say what's on your mind! You are all going to do great!

Today is my 36th birthday and for the first time in 30 years I am not overweight. I started my WLS journey 1-1-12 (surgery 2-14-12) and since then I have lost an entire person. I started at 335# and a size 28. Today I am 160# and a size 8. I am 20# below my surgical goal. It is a very shocking transformation and I still have a hard time wrapping my mind around it. I am less than half the weight I started out at and wear about 1/4 the size clothes. Mindboggling. I don't even recognize myself, let alone people that haven't seen me in awhile. I don't plan to try to lose any more because I am getting way too bony. I am in the process of trying to have plastic surgery though. I believe when that is done I will be a size 6..possibly even a 4/6. Unbelievable. I am a large framed woman and never would have believed it was possible for me to be this small. A 16 was my goal because it was the smallest I could ever remember being.

I was sleeved on May 27, 2013. I've been a bit of a slow loser, but I'm down 45 pounds and can really see a difference in these progress pics!
 

My surgery was last Thursday. I started off this whole thing at 289 pounds. That was in May before I went to the seminar. At the seminar I realize that I needed to stop smoking and that I would be changing for the rest my life my children. I have three children eight years old three years old and a one-year-old. And I would love to be that "soccer mom " That coaches are runs up and down the field. I couldn't do that because I was so heavy. I also couldn't do that cause I have severe chronic neck and back issues. My pain management doctor recommended that I move forward with the surgery. If I lost some weight maybe we take pressure off my spine and I would have less pain. So finally in April I decided to move forward with scheduling I saw the doctor we set the date for August 23 (they ended up moving it up one day). I ended up losing 28 pounds on the pre-op diet. Since surgery last Thursday I've lost a total of 18 pounds with a grand total of 46 and still I have a lot to go. I am happy with my progress so far it is a struggle every day because I would love nothing more than to eat a big piece of cheesecake. the surgery helps you a control your hunger I had not been hungry since my surgery it's only been a week but I have not been hungry. And I feel that this is been the best decision I've made in my life outside of getting married and having my children. I'm new to this site so I'm not exactly sure how everything works if I rambled on I apologize.
