I think most of us feel guilt and shame, but fact of the matter is that 95% of people who lose, gain it back...plus some. I finally realized I was not in that 5% so it was either make peace with my size or surgery, (which is the one thing shown to make inroads into battling obesity). Also, it's not like you get surgery and get to do whatever you want. Trust us there is still lots of work to do, but the sleeve is a tool making the motivation and work so much easier (I'm hoping, only one week out). You can still take pride afterwards in watching what you are eating.

I was approved today too! Now I'm just waiting on my surgeon's office to call and schedule. Congrats to you! Maybe we'll be sleeve date buddies!

What should I expect next? How long did it take for your surgeon to schedule surgery/give you a date?
Typically, people have an endoscopy and blood work and do a 2 week pre-op diet. What else did you do?
How far out did your surgeon book you?

Greeknugget. I had all testing done prior to approval. Once approved, I was scheduled right away. I am on my last week of pre op liquid diet. Surgery is next week, the 31st. Good luck, and I wish you and MGLAW 142, the best.

I just got approved too I meet with my surgeon August. 7th and I'm super excited and have a ton of questions.

First Appointment 6/4/2013
Surgery scheduled 7/32/2013
I had to have EGD, Nutrition class and psych eval. I did 2 of the 3 in one day. I also had to have 5 years of weight history for insurance but I just pulled records from my primary and ob doctors.
1 week from today I get sleeved!!!

I'm in the same boat! It's funny how excited I am for this. It's like waiting for a wedding or something. I've found prepping my house and keeping busy keeps my mind off of it-- I already have my hospital bag packed! Ha. Good luck to you!

You don't get to control your rate of loss and for most of us it doesn't even form a good pattern you can rely upon, so don't get too comfortable.
Have other people done this? Yes. I'd argue far more lose slowly than quickly, but those "I lost 90 pounds in six whole days!" posts get hundreds of responses while the more reasonable and moderate losses don't get the same attention.
Relax, you're not alone. This is a long road, no matter how quickly you lose. Getting to goal and being able to maintain is far more important than losing quickly. Everyone hits plateaus or stalls along the way and everyone gets worried that they've lost as much as they can when it happens. You keep doing the right things, push through it and keep slogging along until you reach goal. Then, you keep doing the same right things and keep being accountable for the rest of your life. It's a forever choice we made to have surgery - I wouldn't worry too much about losing slowly.

Yes, after the pre-op and first month, I've been losing 1-2 pounds about 8-11 per month. I thought this was slow but I am just shy of 6 months post op and I'm down 95lbs. When these smaller numbers add up, they lead to huge accomplishments.
