  1. Hey There, I have been having a heavy period this week after getting sleeved 5 weeks ago and I have an IUD. Has anyone experienced this? I have not had a heavy period since I have had the Mirena for 2 years. I am wondering if this is unusual or if there is something else to be concerned about. I have an apt with my OBGYN next week, but am thinking of getting in sooner if this continues. Please share experience if you have an IUD. Thanks Much!

    Pre op help!

Hello, Not sure if your surgeon gave you ideas for all liquid diet. But, I had chicken broth, sugar free Jello, popsicles and continued to drink the required Protein shakes. It was nice to mix it up a little with the liquids. Good Luck to you!!

    NERVOUS

I had surgery about 2-1/2 months ago and feel so fantastic. I did prepare myself 6 months prior to surgery though. Not sure how much time each of you have had to mentally and physically prepare, but that is really a big part of your post op success. Researching, Going to support groups, talking to others with same experiences, reading all information from surgeon with supplements, food regiments. There will be doubt before surgery of your after success, but if you are completely committed to taking care of yourself, it will become a habit and second nature for you. At this time, post op, I am in such a routine of food and activity, I very seldom think about what I must do now.. I just do it and it works.. Good Luck.. I had the same questions as you before I got started.. Very normal for most of us.

    serious problem!

I have been on an IUD for 3 years, no periods.. until after surgery. However, I did not have another one yet. But, if you already are taking BC since January, you may want to see if they can change your estrogen level to prevent periods for your vacation. Since you just had surgery even that may not work. So many changes in our bodies right now.. Nothing is really normal the first few months. Good Luck!
  7. You look fabulous and so much younger. It is amazing how taking the weight off also takes off years. Keep it up!!

    Back to work-Nosey co-workers

I did tell most everyone in my department pre-surgery. Just as a heads up.. " I am having surgery to alleviate future health issues which was recommended by my provider, etc.. Yes, it is true, they will talk anyways.. just ignore it. Most need something to gossip about and this is a target topic. I told a co-worker when I got back, that had not previously known.. I later walked in on a conversation that she was having with someone about my surgery. She was embarrassed that I caught her gossiping. Most are pretty quiet now. It has been 6 weeks and we are moving on.

    Ready to drink protein shakes

I put a 1/2 tablespoon of Peanut Butter into my chocolate or vanilla protien and blend with a ice. It is a great flavor if you are a peanut butter holic..
  11. I am sure you will get alot of responses to this. I am 5 weeks out, And after the 4the week I was the same weight for 6 days until today. I did everything I was supposed to.. My doctor said around the 1st month you will have a stall. Keep doing what you are doing.. Your body is trying to keep up with all the sudden weight loss so quickly. I am down 2 more lbs today, after no loss for over a week. This will happen from time to time. But, at least you are not gaining weight.. Good Luck!!

Heavy Period with IUD Post Vertical Sleeve?

Hi JSC2014, Thanks for the reply. I see you had your surgery a month before I did. Congrats! Did you see your doctor for the heavier bleeding with the IUD? I am thinking maybe it is just the first couple cycles. Just hope they are not all like this.

Heavy Period with IUD Post Vertical Sleeve?

I had heavier cycles, but they were non existant prior to surgery with my IUD. I was on a blood thinner in the hospital. But, not at this time. I just find it unusual and wondered if anyone else experienced this post surgery. Thanks for the reply.

    I am scared

I knew I wanted the surgery. And I do not think all of us are completely 100% prepared for all the changes with food, cravings, etc. I do know that it becomes alot easier to work with after the surgery. Go to support groups, work with a nutritionist, counselor.. what ever is a good support for you. I still have desires of things that I miss, but not near as much as I did before the surgery.. It does get better.. Good Luck!

Exercise "March sleevers" who is up & moving?

I had surgery on March 11th and am down about 27 lbs. Feeling good! Walking 1-2 miles a day and joined water aerobics to help tone some loose skin. I am still eating soft foods like cottage cheese, apple sauce and scrambled eggs. Looking forward to graduating to more food variety soon.

    Working out after surgery....

I had my surgery 1 month ago on March 11th. I just started walking 1-2 miles a day and am going to Water aerobics 2 x week. Love this class. I can already tell it is going to help tone loose skin.

    Telling others

You said the right answer. No one needs to know accept HR for FMLA purposes. But, I would have said the same thing too.

    Apparently I disappointed someone...

I sent out an email to my family and friends prior to surgery. Explained what I was doing, why I was doing it, the complications I have had over the years with obesity and the success that I am looking forward to being healthier now. I recieved positive support from all but 1 family member and 1 friend. I wanted to do this, so that I would know who not to waste my time on with my progress. The two that had negative comments and lack of understanding, (or jealousy) I just deleted from my contacts. I need to recover and move forward without those judgement words, I lived by them far too long.

    leak test?

I had my leak test before I was released from the hospital post surgery. I had to do the Barium test and the CT Scan Dye test. Just had to drink something small, as they do not expect anyone to drink alot post surgery. All was fine.

    Chores?!

I was up cooking and cleaning after a few days. Then, my body told me to sit down. So, I did. I really took advantage of the 2 weeks that I had off work to just relax. I am glad that I did. I am back to work now and still get a little tired after 3 -1/2 weeks post op. It is important to get yourself strong and healthy again and not to worry about all the house stuff for a while. Good Luck to you!!

    April 7th

I felt the same way leading up to surgery. But, then I went back and reviewed all the successful posts and words of encouragement from all the Sleevers in the Post Op, that it was better for me. i actually thought of writing letters to all my family members in case something happened. But, I was like... I got this, I am going into surgery with Optimism and excitement. And I did, I am 3-1/2 weeks post op and never felt better in my life. The surgery was quick.. and after a couple days of some rough recovery, it only gets better.. Believe Me!!

    hi guys

Yes, I agree with ShrinkyDinkMe22. The preparation is a key factor. Getting all supplements ready, Protein shakes, liquids ready in advance. It reduces being overwhelmed when you are prepared. Getting all your liquids in to prevent getting dehydrated. It helped me to get caught up on laundry, cleaning house, preparing some foods for my family.. daily things that you will not have to worry about when you are post op the first week. I too, was nervous til the day I went in on March 11th. After a couple a rough days post op, I have never felt better. Good Luck!

    Post op pain

I was sleeved on March 11th and still feel some tenderness. The first couple weeks, I would have an icepack and a heat pad to alternate on my stomache. It really helped. I also took 2 -3 hot showers a day. May be overkill, but it felt so much better. I was only on Pain meds for a week. I too, could not sleep in my bed for about 2-3 weeks. Only the recliner where I did not have to turn or lay on my side. Definately give it some time. Most are looking at about 2-3 weeks for stomache to be less painful. But, the walking also is a bonus. Any amount will help you. Good Luck!!

    Second Thoughts

I had surgery on March 11th and am feeling so great!! I did have second thoughts a week before my surgery.. not really sure why; as I did so much research and new this was the right decision. I believe it was mostly out of fear of the unknown. The first couple days post op were rough, as with most surgeries. But, I am down 35 lbs already in almost 4 weeks and have never felt better. Second thoughts are typical for some of us. But, so are second chances.. Good Luck!!
