wasabi reacted to SerendipityHappens in blog post - what not to say to a friend who has had weight-loss surgery
Excellent blog post.. but everyone please note: Serendipity Happens welcomes everyone to tell her how fabulous she looks.. as long as it's not from the Korean lady who came into my store the other day and told me "oooh, you look good now, not so fat like before.. before you was sooooooooooo fat." I kid you not.

wasabi reacted to LatteMadonna in blog post - what not to say to a friend who has had weight-loss surgery
I wrote this today after a weekend of hearing ridiculous comments from people who would say they are friends. Just wanted to post it here because I'm sure many of you can relate. Feel free to link someone to it if they're that "well meaning friend."

wasabi got a reaction from ShellBell25 in Co-workers are starting to notice weight loss!
I agree with ShellBell. Think about how many times you felt hopeless when you asked how someone lost weight and they said simply eat less and exercise more. So frustrating! I say tell them. If they are really interested. I wouldn't announce it on Facebook or at work, but if someone asked me I would tell them I had WLS.

I am in the camp of "Tell everyone you know!" Being overweight my entire life, when someone close would lose weight and I would ask "How did you do it?" and they just said "Oh I just ate less and exercised more." I would want to throw up! I have tried that repeatedly throughout my entire life and it hasn't worked for me. It would leave me hopeless and defeated to hear comments like that. There are others LIKE ME....others who have tried EVERYTHING and can't seem to lose the weight. I don't want to be dishonest with them and pretend that it was that easy! I tell everyone that I had surgery, that I tried EVERYTHING else and I just couldn't lose the weight on my own so I made this decision for me. I think it validates others who are struggling but just can't seem to lose the weight. AND it opens doors for others to talk to me, maybe about surgery, maybe just about my preop diet, maybe about first steps to make, or maybe it recommits them to try harder at what they are already doing to lose the weight. As someone who was always seeking what worked, I would have been disappointed by someone who lied about having the surgery so I tell the truth about it. To each his own, but that's my take on it.

wasabi got a reaction from onedaycloser in BMI of 39 - anyone have to gain weight for the insurance to cover
Hi! I'm new here....wondering if anyone had to gain a little weight to be covered by insurance? I am 5'6" and 241 and in order to be a 40 I'd have to gain six pounds. I don't think I have any co morbidity. Healthy as a horse, just fat!!!

wasabi got a reaction from ShrinkyDinkMe22 in Quitting caffeine before surgery
Thanks for all of the advice and stories! My doc said to quit caffeine because it is a diuretic. I currently drink 6-8 diet Pepsi a day which I know both the caffeine and aspartame are horrible for me anyway, so I'm giving them up on my journey to be healthier. I only had 2 today so I'm hoping I can get down to one tomorrow and then none on Monday!!

I've got 3 12 packs of Coke Zero, and an unopened bag of coffee in my pantry... 5 weeks till surgery. My plan was to slowly wean myself off of Caffeine. I just can't get myself to start. Caffeine is my "drug" of choice. They say if you have an addictive personality you'll give up one addiction and find another. My Boyfriend's hoping I develop an addiction for sex. I'm hoping it's exercise. His response was "is there any better form of exercise?". I'm still gonna miss my coffee

This link (<---click here!) does a GREAT job of explaining how the pyloric valve at the lower end of your sleeve handles Water and food--and why we should never drink with meals after being sleeved.

wasabi reacted to mauimelissa in period
I giggled when I saw this as i got my period the day of my surgery... Horror! The nurses were fabulous and the doc never blinked an eye when I asked if this would be a problem. I wouldn't worry about a thing. They are prepared for everything!

wasabi got a reaction from 2notbwinded in Bipolar
So I went to my initial consult and everything went great! He does not care that I am bipolar and said that I would only have to take the alternative versions for my drugs for 4 weeks! I'm so excited!

wasabi reacted to Butterthebean in lets be honest, 1 week post op
The worst thing I did was lick the seasoning off of some wheat thins during week 2. But I must say, those wheat thins were delicious. My sweet lab mix was happy to eat the evidence after I licked them.

wasabi reacted to Dualstarr in 10 things I can't wait to do
I'm still a little ways out from my surgery (just started the Kaiser options classes) but this morning I was laying in bed thinking of all the things I can't wait to do when I lose weight.
1. Be able to walk through those stupid little turnstyle things
2. Finally be able to stop lying about not liking rollercoasters. I love them..my fat ass just won't fit. Easier to lie
3. No longer have to buy gigantic pads with wings (yeah I know TMI)
4. Be able to buy something from Victorias Secret
5. Be able to shop with friends without having to make a Detour to a "fat store".
6. Not be ashamed to walk though the mall with my bag of clothes...I always hate shopping and having to walk through the mall with a Lane Bryant shopping bag...just screams I'M FAT!!!
7. Be able to put the lap tray down on an airplane
8. Be able to tell people I used to run cross country in high school without them saying "What happened". and actually be able to run again.
9. Sky Dive!!!!!
10. Go out with my "skinny friends" and actually have guys want to talk to me too...and not just to ask me to ask my friend for her number

Awesome! Yes, I want to have my current psych do the eval because she knows me best. I'm just wondering about the specific diagnosis of bipolar.
