This. My psychologist and I discussed this exact issue during my appointment - his best advice was to not tell anyone, but if they ask what "diet" I am on (once the weight loss becomes obvious) to encourage them to see their own doctor and nutritionist for a personalized plan. No mention of surgery, just keep on truckin' towards my own better health.
    Good luck to you!

Good luck with the surgery tomorrow! I'm sure it will go great - you've done that prep work that is the first big challenge.

I've scoured the suggestions list and found these additions to above items: GasX strips for post-op gas pains, ear plugs (loud hospital), small pillow, warm socks, and a heating pad. Oh and someone mentioned sugar-free cough drops and gum for the dry mouth/sore throat after surgery. Good luck!

Interestingly, I specifically asked my surgeon about this last week, and she absolutely shook her head NO. She prescribes preventative meds for all her post-op patients instead. As with most things on web forums such as this, it is easy to find contradictory information. Trust your own doctor, ask questions if you have them.

I don't want to get any older and be this weight - I feel like too much of life is passing me by! I've done a year's worth of research before deciding on the sleeve and I'm pretty excited (yet scared, of course) to get 'er done.

I just got an email showing your posting, but it's the first one I've seen. Welcome to the process of the "new us"! What part of the journey are you in? I have done most pre-op appointments and meet with my surgeon on 7/2. Scary but exciting.

    hi everyone!
My name is Tris and I live in Utah for the moment and sadly, no, i do not have 10 husbands, nor do I have 10 sister wives. Grew up in SF Bay area, moved to London, then Oregon, Idaho. I used to love to travel and moved to England and lived there some 7 years. I am a huge anglofile. and btw, didn't know a soul there. I had the time of my life, almost got married twice, and made some friends I will never forget. Since I have gotten heavy, travelling has basically stopped, as I find it difficult to hike and explore.. and I have become incredibly shy and stay inside a lot. hence my exploring this operation.
A few hobbies : fossils, trilobytes, calligraphy, hiking, my 2 dogs, baking, the beatles, music, and crafting. I work full time as a professional musician, playing the harp, and love music of all types.
I play the harp, string bass, violin and viola, a little french horn, as well as psaltery and piano. I feel really lucky and blessed to be able to play harp for a living, and bless my parents for starting all this up when I was about 4 years old. They met in a string quartet in high school, and passed along the music to my brother and me.
I love real estate and purchased 2 properties on my own, and am getting my condo ready for rental. New dreams: a very small RV or vintage small trailer, find a small pool I can afford for my back yard (looking at horse troughs (ikr?), natural pools - google it, so cool) or just a small above ground from kmart, and get my backyard finally done after I refi my home. I also want to buy a new harp.. I have my eye on a carbon Fiber one that is just amazeballs. Oh, did I tell you I make harps too? I hate to admit how many harps I have. Harps are like potato chips, you can't just have one. Its sort of a passion.. have harp, always looking for more.. the perfect harp. OK i will stop now, I do rattle along. Hope to gather more info on this operation, and then finally go forward, bravely.

Newbie here! Hello, I'm Shell and I am in the early stages of this process. Yesterday I had my first 4 appointments at the surgeon's office. It was a trip - Got my sleep study take home equipment, had an EKG and a blood draw (ouch), met with the Nut, and met with the exercise guy. Oh and all that without any food or drink, because I had been fasting since 10:30 pm the night before and then had back to back to back appointments.
Next for me: Sunday night I will do my at-home sleep study with a hilarious monitor doodad, and next week I have my first psych appointment. Things are moving fast after many months of haunting these boards and mentally preparing myself to take this leap. I'm actually calmer now that I have been to the office and met people involved in helping me make this surgery happen.

You sound so much like the chatter that goes on in my mind. I have finally decided that this is the only way my health will improve and my self esteem (which has been hovering around 1.5 for years) will ever get better. This group is so supportive. I'm so glad I found it. Lots of good info and support.
