  1. How far out are you from your surgery? VSG right? When you are under a year, is your surgeon offering anything? Quite honestly I wish you the best of luck to find someone who is going to check on you every day. It sounds like you already know what the problems are. Have you talked to the nutritionist? What about the psychologist?
  2. Just an FYI on swimming, if you do it right, you'll take the weight off. You might go lower than you expected.
  3. No, I couldn't exercise like that before surgery. I dropped about 25-27% of the excess weight in one month. The reason why I was able to do a 10K 3 weeks and a day after surgery is because I had about 100 pds excess weight at surgery. I was also doing some things like walking, swimming, light weights before surgery. I could not exercise at the rate I did 1 month after that I did before. Big difference. Add to that I didn't have diabetes, mild hypertension only. Thyroid was being treated for several months before surgery. No sleep apnea. So many of the comorbidities others had I didn't have. Big difference there too.
  4. Interesting. Thank you for sharing.
  5. I didn't get any real advice from the surgeon. At least you got that.
  6. Warning gang: just for the record, most do not leave the pool. You see a few do, but if you are working on techniques, like Ryan Lochte says, everyone does it. I will say this when you are swimming for several hours in sets and especially more than one in a lane, its that way. Btw, my pool is a UV filtered pool. I could barely tolerate the public pools: too many chemicals and too many shallow ends. Flip turning becomes unnerving because you are doing a summersault for all intents and purposes and if you dive in, there's a huge huge difference between 6-7 feet and 12 feet. The Water is WAY too hot. I swam a mile once when I was in competition shape and had to stop for breath. I think I lost more weight in that pool than any other.
  7. I'd say we probably all have the same thoughts. Maybe they are judgements and maybe they are just wondering what runs through others minds. Just like you asked here - how do others think/feel about x/y/z? and for the record, as a swimmer, if you go to the indoor pools and be there with other swimmers, not those who splash around but actually swim, you can be 95% naked and no one notice. Or they'll complain for you to not have ragged trunks or something, have some pride. No one cares. If you show a nice suit, we'll notice the suit. The rest of us know what we all look like, and we're over it. Sometimes an indoor pool (lap pool) is a better way to go.
  8. Yes. In 3 years, I've had 2 sets of iron infusions. Chronic problem.
  9. I got told it was all in my head. Turns out it wasn't. I had some problems before the sleeve but a lot more after.
  10. Where have you looked so far? That way we don't duplicate anything. You can always google for bariatric and vegan or vegetarian. Dr. Garth Davis would be a good one to follow.
  11. They do give coupons also if you ask. At least years ago they did.
  12. Have you had blood work at all to see if anything is up?
  13. B1. Other B Vitamins. I have those problems in droves. I solve the issue by writing everything down.
  14. I had a huge problem with my doctor not listening about my gallbladder. 2 other surgeons, 1 ER doc, and my PCP at the time, all said gallbladder. The insurance ended up calling my doctor and asking him why he wouldn't do the surgery, what medical reasons he had for it. I got tired of getting smoke blown up my skirt. It got done and not constant pain all the time. My weight loss settled down. The doctor went off on me about it but it was worth it to just say, give me common sense stuff, you just operated on me, know my history, all my stuff is here, what's the problem? Some days, egos and or mindsets can be an issue and I hope that isn't true in your case. I would not wish what I had on any one.
  15. I don't know what to tell you except I'm hoping things get better. I wouldn't even begin to think about where to start. What about asking the PCP who you are to go to?
  16. Yes, I was accused of being Rachel. I had supported the lady until then. She got mad, apparently believing she was right, and blocked me. It wasn't long after that I saw the comments made by people on FB about her. Rachel indicated she got bumped off lists and it was after that point. I say that because if an employee is that way, you want to check into the doctor and what they'll tolerate. If they tolerate that behavior from their nurses, how are they going to treat you? if you need care or questions after, how will they treat you? This is what I say because I've had that experience. No, not had those docs. I could give you some areas to check too, if you want, privately, that might get you some more help.
  17. Yes, that is who the nurse was associated with. I think she used Mexicali for that reason - association with the Mexican Mexicali place. Apparently these people said she would change her name or nickname and come back on FB since she had gotten either blocked for a certain amount of time or the like. I don't know all the details but I remember it because I was floored. I had never heard people on the bariatric lists just say block her in public to others, some indicating an issue with her. Never that blatant. I can only say what she did to Rachel and myself firsthand. It would have had to have been her (Mexicali's) comments that got Rachel blocked and I know Rachel said she really doesn't post on FB because she doesn't have the time. I can also say that the experience I had and Rachel had and what I gathered from a couple of the FB groups, was not positive. From my own experience, it is better to find out specifics or anything on a problem and see how places deal with it. Any one can deal with success stories but if they've got no reputation or a bad one in how they deal with problems, you want to know.
  18. I believe there is a nurse there, Michelle Mexicali, that has caused some issues on FB. I about died when I saw some people commenting about her, as usually you don't see that sort of thing happen openly. I was accused by her of being a friend of mine who helped me out. I can understand getting people confused but she couldn't consider she might be wrong. That friend has apparently gotten some ill stuff because of it. She would have been the one spreading that, so that someone works as a bariatric nurse and does that is troubling. I had some issues like that with a nurse who I question whether or not she has feelings for the doctor. I didn't care much for the doctor as a fair amount of his decisions and the like didn't seem to be guided much by evidence and research.
  19. I don't use MFP but I'm pretty pleased with the one I chose. I think it does a good job most of the time.
  20. Yes I use several of the protein powders. I'm a Vega fan though. You can also get Lifetime that is cheaper than all of them.
  21. food is useful but cards are nice. Letters to their bosses with details are good. Snoop. I sure did, I asked who is in charge and who would be in a position of power to know what myself (and others) thought of people. I went so far as to a few of them asking who can give these people raises. Believe it or not, in EVERY circumstance they told me and told me what would help at raise time. That's what they got. I rank/rate doctors and the like in the office. You can have good docs/bad staff, bad docs/good staff, good/good, bad/bad. Give specifics on the ratings. If I see some specifics, its going to help people best decide: is this an atmosphere I can deal with? That's what people really need to know.
  22. It is always possible in any "key hole" surgery to knick things when inserting trocars. They don't do it on purpose. They just are putting them in somewhat blindly. Please don't feel bad, there was nothing you or her could do. If they're trying to fix the problem, that's what you can ask for. Keep focusing on the outcome 6 months or a year down the road.
