  1. It boggles my mind that for all the people who go to Mexico, we could PAY for the surgeries at the waste that is in here. Just sickening. I'd go for people paying for the plane fare, but we could pay for the costs of surgeries, including plastic surgeries down there. That would take some punch out of "surgery mills" up here. Bet they would get their act together too, some of these ones are just money hungry here in the states. Jumping into it for the money. Really torks me. We could support good docs across the border, our own American people, and get them healthier. Any one else agree? I feel a better use of our dollars is giving that and say a limit on plastic surgery after bariatric surgery ($40K limit, must be 1 time for loose skin removal). http://www.realitybase.org/journal/2009/10/12/the-dysfunction-and-corruption-of-our-healthcare-system-its.html
  2. I've yet to figure out why it makes a difference. If they are curious about WLS, fine, ask someones' experiences. Otherwise, its like whether a kid is adopted or not. It doesn't matter. That child is still as much a child of his/her parents as if they were born physically of their parents.
  3. 2 things: 1) did your HDL go up? You need to have your HDL, LDL, trigs, and VLDL taken. My HDL was routinely in the 70-80's and early 90's before surgery. Now it is regularly over 100 and throws everything off. 2) HDL goes up for 2 reasons: 1 you have a genetic issue in terms of Japanese or anorexics get it.
  4. Why the crackers? That's the only thing I see. How much more Protein can you get in? I don't see any Protein drinks mentioned. Congrats on your surgery.
  5. Not only an excellent article but some great additions by people here. Why is it a judgement? Stars get plastic surgery done all the time. That's ok but people helping themselves get healthier isn't?
  6. I know an RNY'er who has done WW for years. I know she doesn't do carbs and is in the size 6 range. She follows the diet but it is very much modified to lean protein/fresh fruit & veggies.
  7. I'm wondering ... did your surgical team tell you what they wanted you to do? Do they have a salad you can get? That would be better as everything you list is either carbs that aren't good for you or fatty meats (sausage & bacon). The sausage and bacon would at least be protein.
  8. I was cleared at a month - 2 days for everything. Man ...
  9. http://www.milk.co.uk/page.aspx Filtered milk goes through an extra, fine filtration system, which prevents souring bacteria from passing through. The nutritional content of the milk is unaffected but the shelf life is increased. The processes involved include, microfiltration, ultrafiltration and nanofiltration. Microfiltration is the most commonly used process and is a pressure-activated separation process which uses a membrane that is permeable to substances with a low molecular weight but rejects material with a high molecular weight. In the process of microfiltration of skimmed milk, bacteria are removed using ceramic filters with 1.4 micrometer holes to separate the milk from the bacteria. After this process, virtually all the bacteria present in the milk are removed. The milk is then homogenised to standardise and evenly distribute the fat molecules, where it then undergoes the pasteurisation process before being chilled down quickly to 5ºC or less. Microfiltration adds an extra level of cleanness which can extend shelf life up to 45 days when stored at temperatures of up to 7ºC and an average 7 days once opened. Filtered milk is available in whole, semi skimmed or skimmed milk varieties. Supposedly this should be really good. Have to give it a shot. Thanks for mentioning it.
  10. Dumb question but did your surgeon have you see a psychologist that knows about bariatrics? Maybe one who has experience with that could help you better? From what you are saying though, why didn't the surgeon provide this help to you? If there was a question on surgery, they should have been helping you if they gave you surgery.
  11. @JerseyJules You go!! It doesn't matter whether or not you do or don't have surgery, wishing you the absolute best, keep on posting. Your comments can still support those who need to get back on track, have regain, etc.
  12. @@Gina1010 ONLY LOST 200?? My hat is off to ma'am. That is FABULOUS! Incredible testament to your hard work.
  13. Indoor home projects get done.
  14. I'm not getting a good feel, from their website: "These statements have not been evaluated by the food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. If you are pregnant, nursing, have any serious health conditions or take certain medications, please consult your doctor or other healthcare professional before using this product." I would want to see double blind type study proof for this one.
  15. They should be doing more at this time in terms of looking for stricture or a food diary and finding if there is a common thread in the problem foods.
  16. Or you have developed an intolerance to the food/drink and the liquid might be too much sugar at one time.
  17. Hope you are doing well - a DS is big surgery.
  18. @@Faithluvhope84 Are you on US Masters? One year membership is $35 and is from Jan to Dec (you can join in November and it goes for 14 months). They have a number of things that will help you. Do you have any masters' teams near you?
  19. The magic words: "swim". Can you tell me something about your swimming ability? I don't want you to do what I used to do when competing.
  20. Big problem: you didn't tell us what you are eating, what you are exercising, for us to help. Without those pieces, specifics, there isn't a lot we can suggest to you. Can you give us more info?
  21. @@BLERDgirl THANK YOU! Couple of questions: do you have pick your own farms? I do and its cheaper to get your own food and freeze it (jams, jellies, etc.) or dehydrate, etc. than buying. Applesauce is another thing I make, apple butter. The other is that I can trade veggies and give it to friends, and they'll cook and give me some. This also saves me $$$ in terms of healthy food and I have sides I can eat for a while that cost little. I believe there are a few places out there that track what goes on sale and when. Do you know of any?
  22. @BLERDgirl I don't know if you have done this, but I am also in a limited funds situation. I think what would help is if we had some tips/hints on ways to help get cheaper healthy food. That would be useful to many.
