  1. Well I think the bigger point is the diabetes effectiveness issue. If someone doesn't have it, maybe just insulin resistance, and being overweight, that does seem to make a bigger difference than having diabetes. The amount of weight too lose also. At least they're being honest. 50% is still better than nothing and if this is used for those who are prediabetic or just turned (believe it was 'how long someone had diabetes' was a factor) diabetic, maybe that is what needs to happen? At least if docs have that recommendation it is better for patient decisions.

  3. Um, its not on this forum. Alex created it and I have the big file to upload. I've got a slew of research from time gone by and am adding to it.
  4. This has been out, well I put it out I should say. There was a fair amount of comment on it. Not a lot people can do. Its sort of known that this is restriction only and you can get by things like that (band). Vic
  5. Ok, I am going to be uploaded a file that has part (but not all) of the references I've collected over the years. First part is bariatric. Second part is going to be reasons why you need to doubly do your diligence on doctors, the office, and their philosophies. bariatric references.doc
  6. I'm still trying to digest that it isn't in God's plan for the surgery. The surgery is a tool, no different than someone who is handicapped would use a wheelchair or cane. Wow. Need to digest that one again. How do they know what God's plan is for your life? One can use what they learn to help out others, maybe lead someone to Christ. My church and I must have some different mindsets.
  7. Best to talk to your surgeon. They are the ones with ultimate control over whether or not you have surgery.
  8. I think the question is what type of spiritual support are you looking for? Another question: are you going to keep it positive only? The reason why I ask, some people say, since I've had issues, if I say here is what happened to me or try and ask people to do their "surgeon" or "office" research, that's negative.
  9. So glad to see a few in the group.
  10. This doesn't surprise me. The money is in surgery. All you can do is call around and see who will treat you.
  11. Did he physically feel it?
  12. Keep walking. Sadly until it gets out there isn't much else you can do but walk around and try to get it out. There might be other things people have tried but that might still be a problem. have you talked to your surgeon?
  13. I have always seen more problems with B12 for vegans (and some vegetarians) than I ever have with protein. That being said, the Indians I know are healthy and only one of them does extra B12.
  14. The sleeve is supposed to fix gastroparesis, but it doesn't for everyone. Some, like me, are worse off. It might depend on the original cause of the gastroparesis. If it is the muscle of the stomach, I could see it being cured. If it is the enteric nervous system, that would account for why some people are "cured" of GP and some aren't. I have someone who didn't get diagnosed or have any problems until after the surgery. Oh for a "hoot"? I went thru the records the first time I was diagnosed years ago. Another MD in the practice and the office manager said there is no record of me having GP. So I got the records and went thru them. Sure enough it mentions 'slow gastric emptying' in response to a timed test and some of the medications I was given, like metoclopramide, are what you give in gastroparesis. If you google slow gastric emptying, what comes up? Gastroparesis. An office manager I can see missing that, but NOT a GI who's been a GI for over 30 years.
  15. I knew some but after I learned a lot more because I was forced to. The nutritionist they had was asking on the web for help because she couldn't help. So I had to learn. Now I find some incredible ideas on food from all different surgeons' offices that people post. As long as you can recognize lean Proteins, veggies and then some fruit, an occasional small treat, that's the main thing. I see a lot of "ideas" put into peoples' heads that are really sad. Veggies, especially with Fiber, are good things. Yes they might have calories but the less fiber in your diet the greater the chance of colon cancer. Its already been hinted at in at least one study on us (if memory serves). There is little rational thought done to this area because the $$$$ are in the surgeries.
  16. I am so glad for you. I really want to see people doing their homework. I never want to see someone in my situation again.
  17. Same here. I had one. I used a cover over top of it. You could buy them for $30, at least mine was. It stunk but that was because I didn't want it in the first place. If the surgeon had fixed the problem, I wouldn't have needed it.
  18. Yes. I requested a muscle biopsy and got overruled. This is on top of situation where the creatinine level dropped in half.
  19. I've had issues also. It has to do with allowing the bariatric surgeon community to get away with it. 40-45% is the profit margin I've seen for bariatrics. The aftercare, especially past a year, is horrid. Out of places like this, thanks to Alex Brecher, I owe a lot. This is where you get a lot of support.
  20. Insurance and the office. I requested a different doctor and was told NO you have this one.
  21. Check out people like Rich Roll. There are others who eat vegetarian. Hindus & Indians do. All don't have a problem with protein. They have a bigger issue with B12 than anything else.
