Rox got a reaction from Aisha902 in Surgery done...Day 12!
Thanks for the info - I am not brave when it comes to pain, and throwing up is something I don't like as well. Do you think it would be helpful to tell the medical staff that Dilaudid does not make me sick - so maybe they'll skip the morphine?? Was your medical team in Egypt english speaking??
Wow, I thought I got funny looks when I said I was going to Mexico - if I may ask - why Egypt??

I have also seen some of the younger sleevers finally look their age after they've lost weight. I'm 53 - if I lose alot of weight in my face, I may look older, but it's a small price to pay for feeling good and having my health. Then again, there's always plastics...

I can't wait to find my hipbones again - 3 weeks out, you're doing fine. Remember, you had major surgery and now have serious calorie restriction. 1st you heal, and then you can beat yourself up for not jogging, or running a marathon.

Yay!!! Follow your Drs. advice to a tee. That is the best advice I have ever seen on any of the support forums

That is so great that you were able to have fun at the water park!! I'm also happy about your relationship with the gym, weight training and cardio. I hope to be in your shoes by next summer (preferably sooner). I just love your description of the scale - it's true it is unreliable - yet such an important part of our life and self esteem

I know that regain after surgery is possible. I am ready to follow Drs orders. I too think it's ridiculous to wait, go thru all the hoops, finally get the surgery - then a week out asking how soon they can have a beer and a hot dog. I have done the research, weighed the pros and cons, and am ready to be obsessed with food until the point that eating what i'm supposed to is second-nature. I'm with you pal, I just want to get it done!!

Boy can I relate to this - I don't know what Jessica London, Roamans, Woman Within, Avenue, Lane Bryant, and OneStopPlus are going to stay in business with all of us working to go into normal sizes. I never thought I would look forward to buying cheap clothes!!!

That crap goes thru my head when it's the middle of the night and I can't sleep. Even if no one would say it out loud - the voices in my head would be singing "I told you so" -- we are all our worst critics. I am 6 wks out from surgery too, and as with everything I have my good days and my bad days. Which I guess is to say, we all need to go one day at a time

Over 50, so I get the Helen Reddy reference. Needless to say, my kids are grown and out of the house. It has got to be so hard to have to cook for your kids and family, but it can be an opportunity. your kids don't really need the junk food - yeah they'll complain at the beginning but there are healthy alternatives to chips. I now know that I should not have given in to the junk when my boys were growing up. My oldest son is obese and my younger one has to watch what he eats. They learned their eating habits from me, and now I need to take a drastic step to save my life and be alive for my grand kids.

I can appreciate how you feel. But aren't you afraid not following the surgeon and nutritionists orders to achieve the best possible outcome from your sleeve, that you could hurt your stomach and its recovery? Don't you think doing whatever it takes to get the maximum weight loss possible is worth following their instructions? I would be afraid to go against what my physician says. I say this because (for a much less invasive outpatient surgery) a co-worker and I had our knees scoped by the same surgeon for the same repair, and both her and I are the same age and did the exact same job (although I was over 150lbs more than her) there was no major difference in us. However, my tear was more severe and my surgery took longer. The surgeon gave me strict instructions to follow, as he did her. The most simple one being non-weight bearing for 3 days, not even weight bearing to the bathroom!! I was mortified, I thought I can't do this but I did, I knew I could walk on it, the knee I felt 100% better. Well I didn't, I kept my knee imoblized. My co-worker didn't she said she was walking on it after 24 hrs "lightly". My knee recovered and it is 100% back to normal. She on the other hand had major inflammation and developed fluid on the knee which had to be drained, more than once. After 6 months of no improvement from her surgery, she had a total knee replacement. The only thing I did differently than her was I followed post-op instructions until I was released by the surgeon. I am only saying this to show that it is so important to follow our physicians instructions and know that this is short lived. Remember the only person we are "cheating/pushing" is yourself. You trusted your surgeon and his team to do the surgery, trust them to know what is best now.

You need to take your own advice and try and love yourself -- most of us on here felt exactly like you do -- sick and tired of being sick and tired -- but remember removing 85% of your stomach is not the magic answer --you won't wake up from this surgery immediately being able to feel your hip bones again -- this is only a tool, it only works if you follow your drs. post op orders to a T. That being said, I hope you are able to do this, I wish this surgery would have been around sooner -- I can tell you, there are barely any photos of me with my sons as they were growing up -- I don't want to see this happen to anyone else. I spent the last 10 years feeling just like you do.
