This week I am starting 2 have my follow up appointments & I went to the 1 of the doctors 2day. Now when I 1st went I couldnt be weighed on their scale because it only went up to 500lbs & as all of u know I was 526lbs. Well 2day, when he called my name I was thinking omg, Im still not going 2 be able 2 give my weight. So the nurse said just put all of ur things dwn & lets see. So I did & I got on that scale WITH MY SHOES ON & it read 497lbs smh. Yall have no idea, how that made me feel. I know EVERY scale dont go up 2 (500lbs) but I can actually get weighed like a normal person...all I could do is cry. Most ppl dont have 2 worry about that kinda stuff but I do & it made my day 2 see my weight come accross that screen EVEN THO its still alot it came accross that screen & thats ALL that matters 2 me.

Why is this person getting attention when she did it to herself?
As a warning to us that what you think couldn't be possible is? Because she was a human being who, irrespective of what others might think, didn't deserve to die like this?
Every one of us who has wls deserves respect and not to be judged. Some in the thin community have the same attitude - u did this to urself, so you don't deserve sympathy. Let's not do that to each other.

Well, we had our second child today. A beautiful baby girl; 7 lbs. 6 oz. (at 37 weeks); 19.5 inches long. Mom is doing great, baby is doing great, big brother doesn't know quite what to think (he's 2 and 1/2). Words can't describe how excited I am!

I will be a month post op tomorrow and don't eat regular food. Personally, I love my life and my family and friends love me. I don't need to play Russian roulette with my newly sleeved tummy for a few bites of food that won't mean a darned thing to me an hour after (unless I am writhing in pain). I got this surgery to bring myself back down to a healthy weight and I am old enough (and intelligent enough) to follow my doctor's orders.
That said, do what you will and enjoy! Pass me a soda and some buffalo wings, please.

A year ago I went to Vegas and didn't have such a great experience. I hurt walking, couldn't take the heat, etc.
Then I go back exactly one year later, which was 7 months post op, and had the time of my life!!!! I never had to open a door, I was complimented all the time, had an amazing time in the night clubs where I was invited with no cover and free drinks. That would have NEVER happened a year ago. I can't wait to go back!!!! Very grateful for my gastric sleeve and the opportunity to live life to its fullest!!!!

    Hi all!
I finally was given a date this morning and while it is weeks later than I was hoping, at least I know it is scheduled! Full disclosure - I was born without the patience gene, it's quite a disability . I had my initial consult on 5/31 and completed the last of my requirements yesterday morning. The only thing that's outstanding is my lab results. I almost got a June 26 date, but there wasn't an open endoscopy appointment that was a full week before, so I couldn't take it and got stuck with July 24 instead. (I am seriously crossing my fingers and toes for a cancellation!) Did I mention waiting was not my strong suit?? I know it sounds fast to make such a life changing decision, but I considered bypass several years ago, and the difference between how I felt about it then and how I feel about the sleeve now is really reassuring and I know that I've made the right decision for me. Once I've made a decision, I want things done, like, yesterday!
Anyway, glad to join the ranks of all of you July Sleevers! Hope everyone's wait, procedure, recovery, and weight loss goes wonderfully!

That is awesome. I'm in Orlando and it has been horrifically hot. I was out in it just watching baseball games and my ankles swelled and I thought I was going to die. To me that's what this is about. Not just losing weight, but changing your life. You are out there living and I think it's great. It's really inspiring.

I went to work for my nephew who has a Deck and Dock business here in Tampa, Florida. He needed help packing Water retainers in 2 backyards. The job consisted of a dump truck dropping a huge mound of dirt in the driveway, the dirt being shoveled into heavy wheel barrows and wheeled to the backyard and dumped into the form, and then tamped down with a heavy tamper....all day.
I worked 6-7 hours a day, Monday- Wednesday with 2 guys in their 20's in 93 degree humid Florida air. My young fellow workers complained the whole time and took frequent breaks, even took off to McDonalds to "go to the bathroom". Old Gman just kept plodding along only stopping for Water and a Peanut Butter sandwich. I told them stories of my long life and had great fun with them.
It's been a year and a half since my surgery. I have lost 85 pounds since then, 115 all together. Before the surgery I could barely walk up the stairs. I have been working out for the last year, stepping up the intensity every chance I could. I didn't know if I could do this job, working out is quite different from working all day in blazing hot sunlight and stifling humidity.
    I stood the test. I am 64.

the sky is the limit to what % you want to lose
    sure losing 60 + % is a success
sometimes i think docs use that low % so they can show their (docs) % rate of patients being successful
i "mark" my goal date at one year PO
i was fluctuating a couple of lbs - but i was at goal
now 6 months since goal - i am maintaining
i might slip here or there - (most/all of do sometimes) but i am doing well - enjoying GOAL
weight fluctuates about 2 lbs on occassion
maintenance can be harder than losing the weight
but i think we all know that
we had that prob with our yo yoing before gaining the weight back
i continue to say and believe - that for me - with the aide of the sleeve - i will keep my weight at goal, fluctuating here and there at times
i/we have gone through "too much" - major surgery to help us lose weight - i can not go backwards now
in the past i, as all others, have gone through too many "personal" issues being overweight - self-esteem, confidence et al
and more importantly all the health problems associated with our weight
now i'm so happy i feel like i could burst sometimes, really
and.........this 59 year old grammy - is cute as a button

You had me until you said this.....
From experience I can say that the sleeve in no way makes you change your ways. This has to come from you. You still have to work at putting the right things in your body. And not "cheat" it by eating junk (slider) foods.
At 7 months out this is my biggest challenge eating healthy and not giving into those old feelings of wanting to binge on a bag of chips.
The best thing I can say is "eyes wide open"
Know that this is something that goes hand in hand with making better choices and exercise

brandnewbie reacted to Daydra in 2nd thoughts
I was there nearly 10 years ago. It's totally normal. For me, however, I was signed up for gastric bypass at an army hospital. I went through all the requirements, and decided I was uncomfortable with the surgeon and the facility and the procedure was too much change to my body and ultimately decided not to do it. I was in my mid twenties. I know now that at that time, I wasn't ready to make the changes that would have been required. I'm really glad I made the decision to step back at the time, because I believe I would not have taken it seriously enough to make it a life change, and I now have the option of the sleeve which I am MUCH more comfortable with than bypass. I'm now 36 and I know the difference between being ready and not. This time I went through all of the requirements that I had control over and didn't have to wait on someone else to schedule or submit within 7 days of calling for my first consultation appointment (I'm self-pay, so that's easier than if you have to wait on insurance...)
No one can make the decision of whether or not you are ready but you, but either way, a certain amount of questioning is completely normal and appropriate. This is an enormous life change. There will be a lot of emotion that comes with it. My nerves this time are more like excitement butterflies, like what I feel the first time I am about to start a race on a course I've never been on before or step up to a longer distance (can I really do this?), where last time, it was an underlying knowledge that I wasn't ready for the change. If you need help sorting out what you're feeling, I would seriously consider consulting a therapist a couple times to talk through it. A therapist is unlikely to tell you whether you are ready or not to commit to the work and changes that will be required, but they'll be able to help you examine what you're feeling and what it might mean.
Rest assured, what you're feeling is totally appropriate. I would be more worried about it if you weren't at least a little nervous about the changes that are coming. And don't forget, you have time. You can try a diet while you wait for approval and you could delay your surgery for a little while to give yourself a little more time to figure it out.
Best of luck as you consider the right thing for you,
    dd
