happyhippo got a reaction from IndieGirl in Noobie Getting Sleeved in July
hi i am 3 mos out and I still use shakes. I make Protein Shakes with fruit and greek yogurt and i make one each morning with just 1% milk and Protein Powder, In this manner I get 20g of my Protein right off the bat. and I also mix my Calcium supplement powder in this shake each day. But, I like shakes so it has not been an issue for me. I did use ALOT of pureed food for a change though. I thought it was amazing how good something like chili tasted pureed when it looked so ugly.lol.

happyhippo reacted to PaperBullets in 3 Months Today
Three months and two hours ago I was wheeled back into the OR room to have about 85% of my stomach removed. I was nervous, afraid and excited. The entire process working up to that day had gone by in a flash - I went from deciding that I'd look into wls to scheduling the surgery date in less than 3 months as my insurance was shockingly fast.
Everyone has their own reasons for undergoing such a big surgery as this and I'm no different. I wanted to be healthy as my weight just kept creeping up and I wanted my co-morbidities to go away. I also wanted to have the realistic chance of beating my pcos enough to have children biologically before it's too late. And, well, I wanted to look cute and to feel my age instead of 30 years older.
I knew surgery would work because it's impossible for it not to make at least some sort of impact but I'd no idea how big the changes would be! I started the whole journey weighing 223lbs and wearing a size 20/22w and XXL tops on a short 5'4 frame that isn't built to hold such weight. On the morning of my surgery I clocked in at 215lbs and could squeeze into a size 18w if I didn't want to breathe. And as of this morning I'm at 162lbs and wearing a size 12 and Med tops!! And I can even wear skirts and dresses from the GIRLS section!!! While I personally would like to be smaller, I'm now officially only 17lbs away from my doctor's goal!
I have so much more energy now it's rediculous! I ran through my "one day skinny girl" closet within the first month so clothing has been a challenge. Thank you Target and Goodwill! lol The emotional fallout of the rapid weight change was no joke but it's leveling off now. I haven't hit a true stall yet but my weight loss has slowed quite a bit which I'm fine with as I honestly can't tell if I have more loose skin or if I'm just noticing what I had to begin with. I'm still averaging about 1-2lbs a week (I check my scale everyday as I'm masochistic like that!). But one of the coolest things I've discovered since the surgery? I can now be picked up and carried around by my other half without them throwing out their back or anything! NEVER thought I'd be able to say that!
I'm so, so very glad for this surgery. I feel like a completely different person now as I'm no longer always hurting and tired. As far as my pcos goes, I'm already effectively "cured" of it and have already ovulated twice. I know I've still quite a ways to go before I meet my own personal goals but the fact that those goals are now something attainable rather than a dream is amazing. 61 pounds gone forever. Just...woah!

That is the hardest thing for me. I still eat too fast and get that "one bite too many" feeling....I am a work in progress.

Yep. You want to give your brain time to realize that you are full. That was a major problem I had before surgery. I would eat fast and take a long time to feel full. Now I just need to work on the eating fast thing :-)

You won´t regret it. Life is so much easier with the sleeve. You can eat anything but in very small portions. The great thing is that you feel full and so you´re satisfied with what would just be an appatizer in the old days. So welcome to the sleevers lounge!

happyhippo reacted to rebecca_dsu in SICK, STILL SICK, CONTINUE TO BE SICK...SERIOUSLY AM I THE ONLY PERSON ON HERE WHO HAS BEEN SICK ALMOST THE ENTIRE TIME SINCE GETTING SLEEVED?
What is a typical menu for you in a day? (It's hard to see what's making you sick when we don't know what you are eating...)
Are you adding a little Crystal Light or lemon juice to your Water to make it a bit more acidic? (sleevers report this helps alot).
Did you follow your Doc's guide lines on food progression? (started with Clear liquids, then progressed to full liquids, then to purees ONLY after your tummy was able to handle the full liquids without making you sick? Did you back down to full liquids after your tummy refused a certain puree and let it heal again before you started on purees again? Are you adding in only one new food every few days to see which food is making you sick?)
If you are really sick from what you are eating, perhaps it's best to back down to just full liquids for another week, and try again later with real foods, one at a time to see which is causing the issue.
Are you taking Vitamins and is your body handling those okay?
There is so many variables, but I hope someone can give you some good options to try because being sick that long doesn't sound right.

happyhippo got a reaction from Arts137 in NEWBIE....BUT CHUGGING ALONG
HI. I started my process on October 30, 2012. I was initially preparing for Lap Band. But after a LOT of research I chose to have the VSG done.
I did my prep for the insurance company and lost almost 20 pounds by watching food intake, and logging EVERYTHING I ate. The NUT was so excited by my little notes and comments, LOL.
Anyway I put the procedure off til March because my hubby and I were booked on a cruise for our anniversary in February. My surgery date was March 14, 2013. I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I don't remember ever not being overweight. My goal was to get back down to a size 18....lol. But the doctor says my goal is 158. I will work toward whatever I can achieve. I am slowing adding exercise. This is hard for me because of time. I work over and hour from home so I am traveling 2.5 hours a day. Essentially, I am gone from home 11.5 hours a day and I require sleep so I don't have a lot of "extra" time. I am walking two or three days a week and I am adding weights for my upper arms.
It is a process, but a process I am committed to finish....and maintain!
I wanted to join this forum so I could have some support available as things arise. To date, I have not had any problems. My surgery went smoothly, post op was not a problem and I am now 7+ weeks out from surgery and the Phases have not posed any issues yet with food.< /p>
Just really wanted to say Hi and start to get to know other "sleevers".

I agree with Ms. AntiBand. I eat differently sometimes on a daily basis. I feel like I cant eat as much some days. My Dr. told me the healing process was 12+ weeks so I just chalk it up to "I am still healing". And I know for me the ounces depend on what it is. The thinner, the more oz I can eat.
Every day is a learning experience.
