We all have unique levels of sensitivity. What hurts one person may not hurt another one. Everyone's feelings are valid though.

I hate to hear that so many of us are experiencing stalls (including me) but I'm so happy in that I am not alone -- I was so afraid that I was messing something up and was alone in that!
I did not do a pre-op diet and I lost 28 pounds in the week after surgery. Since then I've only lost about 2-3 pounds (depends on the days I've weighed). I know that I'm losing inches though because I can fit in clothes that I could not when I got home from surgery but it's still frustrating to not see those numbers move on the scale.
I'm trying to stay positive by tracking my NSV's -- which I've had a few -- but it's so hard remaining upbeat when I go to weigh every couple of days and I end up yelling "Seriously!" in not a nice way at my scale.< /p>

Firëfly reacted to DebDUtah in Why ask what you can eat when your surgeon/doctor has already told you?
Don't hate me, this is more of a rant than a question, and I do not mean to come across as insensitive, mean, cruel, hateful, etc. But really there is not ONE person on this site who does know know what it means to be on a liquid diet. I just read a post asking "is it ok to eat a bite of chicken 3 days post op!". I have seen posts that ask when will I be able to "eat normal again" (key phrase there is normal. Here is a statement that we all can relate to, none of us here who are canidates for surgery have ever eaten normal. If we had, we would never be here. So if what you relate to normal is how you ate before, my answer is never, if you want to succeed that is.
My surgeon has spelled out the diet, pre-op and post op and is very specific on what my stomach can and can't handle. I cannot imagine coming onto any site and asking permission to break away from my doctors orders. Now if your doctor did not tell you what you could eat or did not answer your questions thoroughly, then ask him AGAIN, until you understand.
This goes without saying for those asking if "symptoms" they are experiencing warrant a visit to the emergency room. Now, know that I work in an emergency room and let me just say this. If you are bleeding out of any part of your body that does not stop or is not supposed to be bleeding, go to the ER; if you have an unexplained fever, go to the ER; if you have uncontrollable pain, go to the ER; basically follow your discharge instructions from the hospital, and you will have your answer. Dehydration is serious, don't let it go.
Ok I will get off my soapbox and yes I will still answer the posts with compassion and honesty and more than anything with a smile on my face and know that it is more difficult for some than others.

If you are not getting at least 50-60 G of protein in per day, you need to take Biotin. You will begin losing your hair.
    My morning starts like this
2 scoops DotFit whey vanilla Protein powder (40 g protein) Optimum nutrition also makes a very good whey vanilla Protein Powder
    1 cup almond milk (1 g protein)
    1/2 cup egg whites (12 g protein)
    1/4 cup greek yogurt (2 g protein)
    ice & blend
(sometimes I add 1/2 a banana for the flavor. It tastes like a yummy milkshake!)
I start my morning with over 50 grams immediately. It takes a few hours to drink it, but I feel fueled for the day.

I lost 15 lbs in two weeks and hit a stall and only lost 2 lbs in two weeks over a 4 week timeframe.
Stalls are common according to many of my VSG friends. Just keep doing what you are doing and begin getting some good cardio in...walking, yoga, etc. You will begin to see it drop off (I have seen it first hand)

May 21st - down 26 from weight the day of surgery. It's good to see and read where everyone's head and weight is right now being in similar time frames.
I was also thinking maybe i was doing something wrong. The diet changes a lot from post op day one until now and each phase is a bit of an adjustment trying to figure out if you are doing exactly what you need to for your success. It makes me have many doubts and questions on what is normal :-) Then there was head hunger this week for the first time? I think PMS kicking in? but WOW is it scary!! and almost as hard to fight off as it was before VSG...
Plus there is that fat girl inside me that dieted a 100 times or more, lost weight but put it back on and keeps telling me it will happen again with this. I feel determined it will not!! She is such a pain in my @ss....

I was sleeved May 16 and I am down about 22lbs. I've been in a stall the last week and a half....
I have had zero issues. No nausea, no vomiting, no issues getting ANYTHING down. I've had diarrhea a couple times but not even that severe and that's it.
I feel like I should be losing more... I'm eating more than I should be I think... But I'm getting my Protein in, doing pretty well with getting my Water in, keeping sugar and carbs to a minimum and walking over 3 miles almost every day.
For me, surgery has definitely been more of an emotional challenge than a physical challenge. I have felt TOO good and normal... so it's even harder to change my old eating habits.
I also think I am obsessing too much over the scale and comparing my loss too much with other people's. Rationally I know that if I continue with my new healthier lifestyle the weight will come off, maybe just not as quickly as others have...

I went on a trip exactly 6 weeks post op and was just released to normal foods. It was a bit scary because I didn't really want to be trying new foods if some of them didn't sit well. Turns out I was way over thinking it. For dinners, I would order fish and steamed veggies, lunches I got sandwiches and ate the meat and cheese. I did take some Protein shakes with me and some nectar powder to make sure I got my Protein in.
It was easier than I thought it would be. Who knew healthy choices have been around us all this time?
    Good luck and have fun!

Experiences vary from person to person but yours sounds similar to mine. At first I could only drink half an ounce of Water but was able to progress to a full ounce then a few gulps at a time. Never had any issue with Protein Shakes and can drink one now as fast as I could preop.
Don't push your luck, however. Now is not a good time to test whether you can eat actual food. I hope that you continue to have a noneventful recovery.

Firëfly reacted to MaddieJ in Anyone with 180 pounds doing the sleeve?
I am 5'1" and 185 and I am getting sleeved on July 16th. I can't seem to loose more than 15pounds and I can't keep that off more than a few months at a time. I have lower back problems, SEVERE sleep apnea and hypertension.
My sister died at 24, she was 450+lbs, her sleep apnea caused her heart to enlarge and cause a heart attack in her sleep. Her autopsy showed all of that and the final cause of death was: morbid obesity.
I don't want to die and my family have to have an autopsy done because they don't know what caused my death, I don't want to die young, and I don't want my health to deteriorate sooner than it should. I am having this surgery and I believe it's the right thing to do!!!!

I will be a month post op tomorrow and don't eat regular food. Personally, I love my life and my family and friends love me. I don't need to play Russian roulette with my newly sleeved tummy for a few bites of food that won't mean a darned thing to me an hour after (unless I am writhing in pain). I got this surgery to bring myself back down to a healthy weight and I am old enough (and intelligent enough) to follow my doctor's orders.
That said, do what you will and enjoy! Pass me a soda and some buffalo wings, please.

I was a HUGE soda addict. I haven't had a soda since before surgery in November. I accidentally (and it really was an accident) took a big swig of my mom's root beer from McDonalds because I thought it was my tea. It was disgusting!!!! Over the moths, I thought about the root beer and tried a very small sip of a few different old favorites of mine and they were terrible. I never thought anything could fix that addiction, but it has! I drink nothing but tea and love it! I did try a Coke Icee and even the small amount of carbonation really made me gassy and uncomfortable. I don't miss them even a little bitty bit. I used to drink literally 6-12 Pepsi's per day before surgery and I know that is part of what made me so huge! No thank you! I'd like to keep this weight off!

A year ago I went to Vegas and didn't have such a great experience. I hurt walking, couldn't take the heat, etc.
Then I go back exactly one year later, which was 7 months post op, and had the time of my life!!!! I never had to open a door, I was complimented all the time, had an amazing time in the night clubs where I was invited with no cover and free drinks. That would have NEVER happened a year ago. I can't wait to go back!!!! Very grateful for my gastric sleeve and the opportunity to live life to its fullest!!!!

I came home with two of them. Tried the plastic wrapping both in the hospital and at home with no real success on keeping things dry. I just got where I would reapply bandages every day after my shower until they were removed a week after surgery. I then kept changing everyday until I didn't need anything covering up the incision lines.

While I hit my own goal of 235 on April 30, my doc / nut wanted me to drop another 10. So I did (I love you, Sleeve ). Now I'm 224 and feeling like, "OK, this is the floor." I'm getting a ton of nice compliments, but more and more, people are adding, "Sooooo, you're done losing now, right?" A few close friends have told me they're worried about me going much lower and getting obsessed with it. I do get their point.
So, will now enter maintenance mode...bumping up daily calories from 900-1,000 net to 1,200-1,500 net and see where that goes.
I'm 42, so this means only 45ish more years of maintenance. No big deal.
The only easy day was yesterday.

Don't want to scare you, but my three week stall lasted a month and a half. One day I got on the scale and was down 4 pounds over night. I did nothing but keeps to my diet (protein, Protein, and more protein.) I still cant figure out how someone who is 250 pounds, works two jobs, and eats less than 100 calories a day didn't lose weight. As I said, haven't changed anything, my body just finally caught on.
