I would love to hire a personal trainer for the strength training stuff. I feel totally lost in that department. I'm pretty sure my body is going to need it.
My 5 year old son is enrolled in swimming classes, to learn all the competitive racing strokes. I'm thinking about hiring his swim coach to teach me the strokes like breast stroke, butterfly, etc. all I know how to do is freestyle

Due to a medical condition I am limited in the excercise I can do. Typically I walk and do the bike at the gym. However on the days I am not able to get out I bought a small trampoline, I watch tv and walk on it, time passes pretty quickly and it's easy on my joints. I tend to use it during a favorite show so that i stay focused.

Cardio has helped me get smaller while weight training is reshaping my body.
If I had only been doing cardio I would be a smaller version of my past self... Same shape just smaller.
Weight training makes a huge difference. Once I hit goal I am going to stop the cardio sessions and focus more on lifting.

As far as body composition and appearance, I think weight training offered me the most noticeable changes but it takes time to see the results. As far as feeling great and fit.... Definitely running for me.

For me, it was the elliptical. It has firmed up my butt and legs tremendously. I was doing 30 minutes a day on the exercise bike and slowly changed that 30 minutes into elliptical time. As soon as I hit 30 minutes daily on the elliptical, I started noticing a firmer tush. Weights have done a tremendous job on my arms, but the elliptical has, by far, changed my overall shape. I would think running would have similar results, but I have bad knees, so running isn't on my agenda yet.

Back in the day when fitness was my passion, one of the first things I learned was that an early A.M. workout (before breakfast), rather than a P.M. workout, was much more effective at burning fat. Why? Well, your body first burns off energy built up by calorie consumption. It takes the body about 30 minutes to burn up those stores before it begins to target fat burning. So, for those of you who’d rather hit the snooze button in the A.M., rather than get up and work out, remember that the first half hour of your afternoon/evening workouts are spent burning calories, not fat.
Bottom line: workout in the morning and target fat burning faster!

Building up to being active after surgery is a really slow and frustrating process. I just did the walking for about the first 3 weeks or so. Doing anything more than that is really taxing on your body if you are not getting the minimum nutrition (protein) in, which most of us still are not at a month or less post-op. Hang in there, get in your Protein (and water) and slowly build up your activity level and at 2-4 months out you should be fine and able to try whatever you'd like.

I was having the same problems with fatigue after coming home from hospital. Are you getting plenty of fluids and all your Protein in? Also, starting a Multivitamin can help with the fatigue, as well. I threw the idea around of joining a gym, but walking gently around the block will give us great results, too. Let us know how you are going with your fatigue - I hope that it gets straightened out soon for you.

My surgery date was 4/3/2013, and I want to start working out but I am so weak and not sure where to begin? Any suggestions would be helpful. I thought about joining Curves but not really sure I want to join a gym, I have workout videos at home but just can't get myself to use them because I am so tired. So now what?

What do you consider to be a stall? How far along are you in your sleeve journey and how many stalls have you had so far? When did you have them? How long did they last? What managed to "break" them for you?
I am 11 weeks post op and think I've been in my first official stall. In the last 3 weeks I have only lost a single pound. I am working out at least 3 days a week, am getting about 65-70 gm Protein and over 64 oz Water. I'm not freaking out yet, am still losing inches, but wondering how long these things last and if there is anything I can do to break the stall quicker.
Since I am a self-professed data ***** here are all my stats from preop to now including measurements, maybe some of y'all will relate: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtW90JQQyIegdG1wZFpQemNDZTkxR1lodDRzdnoyaEE#gid=0

Everything becomes habit after a while. The pooping thing should resolve eventually but in the meantime you take a Fiber supplement. You will most likely lose hair but you aren't going to go bald milk....you could become lactose intolerant but then your tastes will change after surgery and maybe you won't like or want milk anyway. I was like you in that it was nothing out of the ordinary for me to have coffee, juice and Water along with my Breakfast but you learn to wait. Again, it's just habits you form along the way. But to see the scale move and your clothes becoming baggy makes it all worth it!

My biggest fear was and is that the sleeve won't work for me, that 6 months from now I'll maybe only be a few pounds lighter. The hardest things to overcome in the beginning is all the "rules." I still struggle to get all my Protein, Water, and Vitamins in. It is becoming a habit and starting to feel more of a routine but it requires a lot of planning in the beginning. For me planning is a challenge, before surgery I could eat any and everything. Now it's protein first. I wasn't a big water drinker before surgery so success in a day for me is around 48 oz a day. Same with vitamins, I didn't start taking them until last year when I got diagnosed with a Vit D deficiency. Now I'm supposed to take two multi-vitamins and two calciums a day, plus B-12 three times a week. It's a lot. I found it helpful to chart it all out everyday for the first two weeks (I took two weeks off to recover): I wrote out my meals, measured my food, ticked off my water and vitamins. Now I try to always keep a Protein Bar and vitamins in my purse, and bottled water in the trunk of my car.

I agree. I had my surgery 4/22 and each day gets better. I wanted to die on 4/22. The nurse asked me on a scale of 1-10 how much it hurt and I said 400. I'm a bit melodramatic. But I woke up in recovery puking and my head was swimming. She came back later and asked -now how do you feel. And I said I still want to die.
Today...only 3 days later and I feel great. Or well- great in comparison. I'm still using pain meds to get around. When I was you on day 2 I still needed a lot of rest but it really helped to get up and walk when I could.
I'm actually surprised they sent you home already. I'd think they'd want to keep you on IV liquids. On the bright side at least you can sleep in your own room and not be woken by people every hour.
Be sure to get all your liquids in. I set an alarm on my phone and every 10 minutes I drink one ounce of Isopure or Water. I found that warming it up made my stomach tolerate it more.
Have you taken a shower yet? That really helped me feel better.
Keep us posted on how you're doing. It really does get better each day.
