Congratulations on getting back on the exercise, um... hike! You know what it takes, so take it! Get your fluids in because that helps curb the appetite. Good luck, and keep posting if you need support!

Hello everyone! I hope everyone is doing great! Me, ehhhh. After two knee surgeries I am ready to get back on track and restart the success! After my knee surgeries I was not able to do the walking and bike riding that I love so much and was my main exercise after my sleeve. Unfortunately I regained about 20 pounds. It is hard to admit that but it is the truth and my first step to reclaim myself. I still ate right, for the most part and did not overeat. I just did not exercise. No excuses, just didn't do what I could have. I used my knee as an excuse I guess. I am happy to say I have restarted my walking...pushing myself at times. I have started hiking again which those of you who remember me know is one of my favorite activities. I hiked 5 miles last tuesday up in Arkansas. I am working hard to hopefully go on a 4 day hiking trip with some friends in Sept. for about 40 miles. I still can't do the bike yet, but that will come as I rebuild the strength. Well, here we go!!

Welcome back! I can certainly see where you would get off track with exercise after undergoing two knee replacements. It sounds like you are determined to get back to where you need to be now that you're recovered. Best of luck!

Thanks everyone. I do still get a minimum of 64oz of Water a day...usually 96oz. I only drink Water, no tea, no coffee, no soft drinks. I rarely even drink a beer any more due to the calories. This have gotten better since my post. I am still in a stall but I am defiantely back to eating correctly again and back to tracking everything on MyFitnessPal. That is a huge help. No I am eating my calories alotted but then my exercise and walking adds more calories available which I end up with unused calories at the end of the day.

I'm only 6.5 months out so I can't speak to long-term hunger issues. But how is your Fluid consumption going? My doc told me early on that hunger is often thirst in disguise. Have you stopped drinking your 64+ ounces a day? If so, bump it back up. From my experience thus far, a full sleeve is a happy sleeve, even if its just full of Crystal Light. Good luck getting back on the horse!!!

I'm pretty down myself after having back surgery cause me to be in more pain than I was if I hadn't had surgery. There is no way I can exercise the way I used to .
It's depressing but I know I lost all of my regain last time with the 5:2 and hardly exercising at all.
I just have to remember that carbs cause me to eat more carbs. The only way to get rid of carb cravings is to be strict about low carbing. Then it's easier after awhile.

Hey, I'm there with you. I had my VSG on 12/03/13, then three orthopedic surgeries (June, July, and October) with an external fixator on my foot from July until October. I've only been allowed to weight bear in a walking boot for the last few weeks. My weight loss has been stalled since June, and I've been up and down the same three pounds since. I've been serious and honest in the kitchen, but no positive weight change for me in a very long time. I've become more creative about burning calories, and have found yoga at my gym to be very effective way to burn calories without high impact or high intensity. After more research following a suggestion by my nutritionist, I'm also planning to do the 5:2 (first fast day tomorrow). It looks like it's been super helpful helping other vets get the last of the weight off, as well as any regain, and for those of us who have had mobility challenges, tinkering with the calories may be the way to go. Best of luck!

Same here, the holidays and just life in general has been tough the last few months. I have also had some set backs but 1/1/15 is the start of a new book with 365 blank pages! I plan on filling all those pages with nothing but great adventures, healthy eating and continuing this wonderful journey we have all started. Just stay strong and everything will fall back in place.

I've let my bad habits return over the past week. I find myself eating all the time and bigger portions than I'm used to eating. I feel so bad for letting myself get out of hand. I've lost 114 since my surgery in February, but need to remain focused and hit my 1 year anniversary on a high note! Just feeling down and wondering how others made it through the holidays.

Don't mean to sound discouraging but I am finding maintenance much harder at 3 years -I was still losing at 12 months. Anyway I am thankful for this forum as I realize most of us are going through this.

I'm down 87 lbs since surgery last year but gained 7lbs the last two weeks. But I know why: I'm eating too many Snacks and not drinking Water. The mental stuff that made us fat before is still there.
Im struggling too but I know what I need to do: destress and stick to the program. A support group isn't something I've done before but may now. I just need the reset button and to talk to people to understand.

Thanks everyone. Yes, I also plan on restarting the Protein shakes to hopefully kickstart things. I have finally been able to resume my pre knee surgery walking/bike riding workouts so that should help, I just have to work back into them slowly. I still need/want to loose about 50 to 75 more pounds to hit my pre-surgery goal. I know I can do it, I just need to refocus. I think one problem is I have been fighting some old demons as far as food and eating habits. I know they are wrong but hard to control sometimes. food was always my drug per say. I was depressed, I ate, I was angry, I ate, I was bored, I ate...etc. Luckily no depression or anger but I guess I have ADD and get bored easy so I try and stay busy. But sometimes it only takes 5 minutes and for some reason I want to nibble on something. I bought a big pack of sugarfree gum last night. My theory is everytime I want to nibble, chew a piece of gum for awhile. Hopefully it works. Thanks for y'alls help, it means alot.
By the way Helen, what is the 5:2 diet? I might need to look into that also. Always looking for ways to vary things daily.

I am struggling as well. It is harder to lose weight after the first year. This site motivates me to keep pushing. So as a sleevers who that is 23 and half months post op i have to say don't give up. It's a every day battle even with the sleeve especially when you can now eat what you missed out on for 6 to 9 months. I been told over and over to go back to the basic Protein Shakes. I actually started them today. I like to believe that with my sleeve failure is not a option. Keep pushing you can do it.

Congrats on losing 100 lbs! Not sure how much more you want to lose but most of us start struggling at approximately 1 year post-op. I have been fighting with the same 8-10 lbs for quite a while now. I'm sure if I had weighed myself today I would have been upset with the number on the scale. The holidays are brutal on weight loss efforts. I am planning to start the 5:2 diet in January.
