Pain meds after surgery ?
Whatever surgery you have, beware pain meds afterwards and try to limit them as soon as possible because they cause terrible constipation. Search threads here to read about patient experiences with constipation. It is a very common problem the first week.

Too sweet! !
Mine is much much less than it used to be. I loved sweets pre-surgery, but now I like salty stuff. Sweet tooth is not gone completely but is pretty tiny now. Low carb eating has really changed me. The weird thing is that if I forget and start to plan a meal I still fall back on "Protein, starch, veg." It's hard to shuck a lifetime of carbs that are ingrained in you, even when you don't really crave them any more.

why dont u just stay on the pre op diet?
I think it depends on your personal history. Many people here can lose weight. It's keeping it off long term. Many here are yoyo dieters and needed an extra tool to make it stick for life.

August sleevers progress
I Weigh only weekly because the daily fluctuations make me crazy. They are completely normal. If I eat Asian food I'm up a couple of pounds the next day due to water. I thought I read somewhere that a stall is officially three weeks or more. So maybe you aren't stalling, just readjusting .

Bariatric coordinator thinks RNY would be better for me. What to do?!
Hi Scylla No offense meant. What came across to me in your post, whether it is what you meant or not, is that because of your coordinator's comments you were considering RnY because you eat sugary foods, with the assumption that RnY was a better choice because it would more likely make you sick if you ate it and thus "control" your sugar eating because you could not control it yourself. Perhaps this is only my poor understanding of your true concerns. If, however, my assumption is correct, I recommended a rethinking because this is very difficult and life altering procedure. Even those who think they have researched everything have a number of surprises in store. There are pitfalls waiting for us everywhere, and if one is already anticipating issues before surgery because of a habit they don't think they can give up, then it just seems like resolving those issues prior to WLS is the wisest choice and gives that person the best chance of success. Too many people don't resolve these before surgery, hence the sad posts we see here from people who keep running into problems along the way, or people who lose fast but their old habits rear their ugly heads and cause weight regain after the honeymoon is over. We all want you to succeed.

August sleevers progress
Hi everyone, Good to hear how y'all are doing. Things are going well for me. How much I can eat each day varies for me too, but usually around 800 calories. Some days I just don't feel like eating and get in 500-600. Lately I started working out with a trainer and have had a few days where I was actually hungry (nothing like pre-surgery though) and ate 900-1000 calories. I needed to make use of more veggies to fill myself up after I got my protein in. I still can only eat half a cup of food at a sitting. Protein: maybe 2-3 ounces, then a couple of bites of veg. I have my 3 meals a day plus a snack midmorning and midafternoon. Have had some stalls along the way, but never more than a few weeks. Even during stalls I still lost inches. My biggest problem is eating slowly. That is the worst habit to break and I wasn't even a speed eater to start with.

RICE?
every once in a while I will steal a bit of Mexican rice off my husband's plate, but other than that I stay away from it - brown, wild or whatever. Dense calories and carbs with no benefit. For me, rice is not a good food when losing weight or trying to keep it off long term. As far as tummy trouble, one bite did not bother me. I just choose to avoid it. Sushi? I do sashimi now. Same flavor without the rice (more expensive though).

coffee
It stimulate stomach acid, dehydrates you, and stimulates appetite. All bad things early on after surgery. Everyone does it differently on this board, but I followed my doctor's orders. No coffee or caffeine for first 3 months. After that, I may have decaf on occasion, but also have caffeinated things like Chike Protein coffee or a skinny latte once every so often. I used to drink 2 cups of coffee a day, plus ice tea at lunch. It was great to get rid of that addiction. Plus, whenever I do have caffeine now it really packs a punch, so one cup is fine, and I really enjoy it.

From that reply I suspect he and his wife were there for marriage counseling!

Almost offended
Wow. This is why my WLS is my business and no one else's. I hate busy bodies and personal comments, so invasive. Every time I hear a story like this it just reinforces my decision to keep it private. Sounds like you handled it like a lady (more than I would have done LOL). I order my stuff online.

I still struggle with....(fill in the blanks)
That's easy: Roasted and salted soy nuts Crunchamame The Good Bean garbanzo snacks Mixed nuts (salted is fine) Jerky Ostrim turkey sticks My bugaboo is eating slowly, like everyone else. Dang, I wish I could get the hang of it. I even have a timer.

Breakfast
Frequently: Protein shake Cottage cheese Greek or Icelandic yogurt Very occasionally: Mcdonalds egg white delight without the muffin Omelette Deviled egg Skinny latte, skinny mocha or skinny london fog Not terribly creative I'm afraid.

Bariatric coordinator thinks RNY would be better for me. What to do?!
Honey, just my opinion, but I think you need to rethink WLS completely, regardless of the method. Read here and on other boards about how many people regain weight after RNY (and lapband and sleeve, too). That is because WLS is just a tool. It won't keep you from sabatoging yourself. You need to get your head on straight before you attempt this. If you have a sugar problem, it's really best to address it beforehand. Some thoughts: Get on a low carb Atkins type diet asap and stick with it. Once you get past induction phase your need for carbs and sugar is substantially lower. You may find this is all you need. Attend counseling prior to getting surgery to deal with food issues. Understand how eating slider foods can easily disrupt and delay weight loss with WLS. Learn about addiction transferring and how some people with sugar addictions switch it to other foods/alcohol etc. and still continue to sabotage their weight loss Really understand how liquid and soft calories can cause you to stop losing and regain weight. Best of luck to you however you decide.

Esophogeal Spasm
When was your surgery? I had this sort of issue for 3 1/2 months after surgery. It got a little better each week and eventually went away. My doctor tested for stricture, but I did not have one. To deal with it I did the following: tiny bites take a long time to finish a meal, even longer than normal for VSG Soft foods for 4 months. Even now at 5 months I prefer softer foods. Just recently able to eat salads and vegs well. Reglan helped - doctor prescribed it. I took it on occasion and it worked well when I needed it to. Stayed away from mint, chocolate, coffee, spicy stuff and other triggers as they made the problem worse. Trigger foods are fine now. You can google for Esophageal spasm trigger foods. Good luck.

Not getting enough calories or protein!
It is not at all unusual to be so low in calories a month out, also, don't do the "net calories" bs from your tracker, just count real calories. However, you do need to bump your protein grams. Lots of good suggestions on here. Cottage cheese, tuna, greek yogurt, cheese sticks, eggs, soft broiled fish, heck - even a glass of milk will do the trick. Focus on fluids and protein and you'll be fine. It gets better. If you can find a protein shake that you like, even better. It is hard to get enough protein in without a shake. I like Unjury chicken broth protein drink and hemp protein mixes for a real change of pace. I keep half a dozen different protein shakes/powders in the house because I get so tired of the same ones. Good luck to you.

Not a good day
It gets better, just be positive and stay strong. You are doing great. Weird stuff happens at an phase, especially so early as you are. Good luck!

Torani or Davinci Syrups........Need help!
Just bought a Monin's Triple Sec flavored sugar free syrup. Skinny Margaritas? LOL. I used to love an orange chocolate coffee drink i had years ago. Wonder if I could recreate it..... Coffee, Triple Sec SF syrup, Chocolate SF syrup or SF cocoa, steamed milk, top with a shake of cocoa and a grate of orange peel. Ok, now I have to have that. Leaving now.

Joining Weight Watchers after Gastric Sleeve surgery.
Feel better soon! That's a real ouch you are going through. Hugs! For what it is worth, that seems like more food than I eat now at 5 months. I would definitely talk to your surgeon about how much food you can get down. I couldn't possibly eat an entire Lean Cuisine, maybe half. I rarely get in more than 200 calories at a meal. And just a suggestion, I would cut out the half and half and switch to low fat or skim milk while you are losing, just a thought. That half and half is about 80 calories right there. It adds up.

Fish question!
Tilapia, sole, sea bass, sashimi all worked for me at 4 weeks. Lots of tuna salad too.

My surgeon won't operate because I complained
no kidding. I sure as heck wouldn't want them operating on me.

Greek Yogurt
As others have said, you specifically have to get the ones that say "light" and even then check the label. Plain mixed with sugar free Torani syrup is something I like, especially plain with a touch of caramel. Just go easy with the syrup, you don't need much. My cabinet looks like a coffee bar from all the different flavors of SF Torani I have.

Does anyone use a crockpot for meats?
Making some green chile stew in the crockpot tomorrow (standard winter fare here in New Mexico). Throw in a tub of Bueno hot roasted green chile, chicken, carrots and onions, and chicken broth, maybe a bay leaf and some Mexican oregano. Cook on low all day. Season to taste after cooking. Yum. Nice with some shredded white cheese sprinkled on top.
