I read somewhere that many people who have surgery replace their food addiction with another, such as gambling or sex. Arent you glad its sex?

Update: I have been livin' la vida post-op for 5 days now - and am down 5 lbs! Whether that is the infamous "water weight" that isn't a *real* loss, I don't care, it's numbers heading south and that's what I like to see .

I spoke to United this morning and they have received everything from my surgeons office yesterday. I am lucky to have a plan that did not require the 6mo nutritionist/medical diet. I got a little delayed because I was laid off in the middle of the process and had to wait for Cobra to kick in but everything seems to be going in right direction. I hope they approve me soon so I can have a May date since I am holding off on finding a new job. Otherwise I have a short window of time to get on another insurance plan at my second job, but they use Aetna and I would have to start the 6 month medical supervised diet. The timing is so right for this surgery to happen now that I am between jobs....I just don't want to be delayed, grrrrr.....
Good thoughts, candles lit and fingers crossed for Unitied to approve!

On a serious note (sorry guys) cross addiction is very real and is something to be aware of EVEN if you never had a drinking problem before.
Don't be scared, be aware and go into this surgery with information and a support system
    (Counseling) in place..
Ok back to the fun and games

So I am nearly 6 months out and 60lbs down. I am noticing I am having a bit of Hair loss but I also haven't been as vigilant about getting in ally Protein only around 45-50gms a day. I am working on boosting that thank goodness I had a ton of hair to start lately I have been wearing it my natural curly style so my big curls(I am mixed) make it look fuller it also cuts down on the damage from heat styling. All in all it has been a great experience

I'm 8 weeks post-op tomorrow. I've lost 50 pounds from my highest weight last November (right after Thanksgving!). And in the last 24 hours I've had 3 NSVs.
    1. I have an important job interview tomorrow so went looking for a new outfit. I was able to purchase off the rack in the regular ladies department...not plus sizes. That was huge...haven't done that in years.
    2. I'm wearing a belt that didn't fit around my waist in January...and I'm already adjusting it to the 4th hole. So even though I can't always see a difference in my appearance...it's happening!
    3. And my last NSV...I'm getting my neck back!!! You ladies know what I mean. I put on a necklace today that I have avoided wearing because it just felt too tight. Today it is laying perfectly around my much slender neck and falls to the perfect position on my chest.
Loving life after my sleeve. Just wanted to share.

Mocha-NJ reacted to WeightStruggle in My love affair with food is FINALLY over!
Tonight I realized that my love affair with food has come/is quickly coming to an end. The things I used to drool over no longer have any effect on me. A couple bites and I am completely satisfied. No more eating Breakfast while daydreaming about what I'm having for lunch and dinner. I have to admit that it makes me kind of sad. Food was such a huge crutch for me for so long. However, I'm loving the new me!! Just thinking out loud. Hope you are all doing well on your journeys.

Hang in there, Rebecca - I try to shop the outside edges of the store as much as I can (hey, that's where the booze is, too... umm, oops!).
There are aisles I do need to shop, though. For example, I use a lot of canned tomatoes, and make Beans from scratch. I use frozen fruits and vegetables when the ones I want aren't in season (or I'm too freaking lazy to cut up an onion...) Since I'm pre-surgery, I do still eat bread, though I do make it whole grain almost all the time. Oh, and if I haven't been able to get to downtown Seattle to my favorite spice store in the world and don't have time to order something I need, I occasionally have to wander down the baking aisle.
I'm trying to put on blinders with regard to the OTHER stuff in those aisles and I'm getting better at it, but it is hard sometimes!

I found myself completely confused at the grocery store today. Thoughts in my head went like this:
"I need to be buying healthy stuff and start working on losing a little."
"But you still have 8 weeks until surgery...and you are never going to be able to eat the bad stuff again, or don't need to for several, several months...so you better get it now."
"Yeah, but wouldn't it be great to lose a few pounds even before the preop diet starts."
"Didn't you hear me...it's going to be MONTHS before you can have sugar again."
So my cart was the strangest mix. From Protein Shakes to a pint of ben and jerry's to fresh fruits and veggies to nutella (aka crack). Gees. Is anyone else preop going through this weird jacked up, not knowing what to do mind set? I certainly don't want to gain any weight prior to surgery, but I'm really not feeling like jumping on the "get strict now!" band wagon either.

Hi everyone. I had surgery on 4/8. So far doing good. No major pain or nausea or vomiting. Yesterday I got in about 45gm Protein. I also had a small hernia repair. I still have a slight heavy feeling in my throat. It may be gas still. Hopefully all will continue to be well.

Welcome to all those who are getting there sleeve, newly sleeved and been sleeved and just happen to find this forum. There is helpful info from those going through different stages and sharing their journey. I am a low BMI sleever...but had every metabolic problem in the book.My mother had triple heart bypass. And my father has health issues as well which prompt me to change food habits for me. My children are also learning vicariously to change their food habits which is makes me happy because then I know those in my family who come after my generation will benefit from me becoming more self aware of healthy choices...before they pack on the pounds. I was sleeved December 26th. 2012. I was 230ish at my HW and I am now 168. My goal is between 145 and 150. Now that I have gotten this far along. I must admit even though I am taking Biotin my hair thinned. I know it will start growing back after 3 to 6 months so I keep it short and when I want something different, I go to the local beauty supply store and by me a cute wig and keep it movin' Now that I am this far along and I can eat more than in the beginning stages. I find I need a little more discipline because I know I can eat pretty much anything. Including the carbs that got me this way in the first place. I have slowed to 11/2 to 2 pounds a week. And if I don't keep my metabolism up and exercise 3 times a week I don't lose weight. so I know that plateau is coming soon. My point is those who are newly sleeved..work on your inner self as well as your outer self so you do not go back to old habits or become complacent after you've healed.Or at least learn to do it in moderation. My sleeve is my tool. And sometimes when I eat too fast or one bite too much it reminds me to slow down take my time and eat less. And let me just say sometimes that reminder came in public places where I had to make a mad dash to the restroom.lol. Let me also say this which I have said many times on this forum. I don't regret this surgery. I feel so much healthier, I am off all the meds. I travel a lot more. Hubby is more happy because I feel better about myself. I am more productive. And best of all when I go visit my Grandkid I am able to keep up with her at age two where she is just a ball of energy. And my second Grandchild is on the way so staying healthy is paramount because I know my son and daughter in-law are gonna need some help and a break every once and a while. God Bless
