rtaylorel reacted to maggie914 in Has anyone ever tried eating food at one week out?
Liz...only being just 10 days post op I would really be careful. Your stomach is going to be in its healing stages for a few more weeks now. The liquid stage for post op 2 nd week is still yucky, but don't want real food upsetting the healing.
The 3rd & 4th week includes soft foods and it is still touch and go with me as far as what's going to agree with me. Got thru those weeks and started my NEW NORMAL life today. Figuring foods that have the Protein count I need is getting easier. Stay away form greasy foods, I really pay for those. No throwing up, so sick to stomach, nauseated for hours. Not worth it.
Be patient, after you get to be able to start eating, your weakness and energy will pick up. Remember, during liquid stage keep up with your Protein drinks. They help with energy. Hope this helps. Best of luck...you will do fabulous!!!!

I did not post that looking for "permission" to eat junk. I was sharing my struggle and hoping for some encouragement to get back on track. And partly I was posting just to be accountable to myself by making it public. I was being honest.
I really find that there is a lot of negativity and judgement on this forum.
The best advice I've gotten so far was the suggestion about a therapist. The rest is just nasty and judgmental. And to the person who said "stop eating ****"... You are about 4 days out, right? I hope for your sake you don't struggle like I am at 4 months, but at 4 days food made me sick. That changes over time and it does get harder. I'm not making excuses for my choices. Just being real and looking for some help.

Remember, "slow and steady wins the race" every time! The turtle is consistant, whereas the hare peters out faster. I've lost weight "fast" in the past, and regained it even faster. WLS puts an end to that yo-yo, roller-coaster ride. Stop reading numbers and tap in to how you feel....Feeling is real, numbers are just symbols.

Yes I've had soda. It didn't cause any problems but it did make me feel very full for hours. It was like the bubbles just sat in there the rest of the day. Some people tolerate it very well though. My suggestion would be to just have a couple sips here and there, for no other reason than to avoid the full feeling that may keep you from eating real food.< /p>
Oh - and good for you having the very nerve to ask a question that our die-hard forum members will consider a "rule breaking" behavior:) Get ready for all the preaching that will most likely follow your question. Just go ahead and read it all while having a taste of your favorite carbonated beverage.

I teach middle school and have given my clothes to the family resource center. I have one student that has worn something of mine at least 3-4 days a week since winter- the student did not have one pair of pants to fit her and is so proud of her "new to her" clothes. So when you are cleaning stuff out, remember the local schools

rtaylorel reacted to Spatters3 in Can we smoke 6 days after the procedure?
Please, consider your question carefully. I know the addiction is strong (I smoked for over 30 yrs) but you had 85% of your stomach removed so that you could live a long, happy, healthy, and more active life and now you want to start smoking again?
The reason they have you stop smoking is because it interferes with your healing. You won't be totally healed from the operation for another month.
After the 3rd day you no longer have a physical addiction to the nicotine. It is ALL in your head. Love yourself enough to not start smoking again. And yes, it is hard. I haven't smoked since 2005 and I still want one every once in awhile.
    Hang in there *HUG*

Fast food is a hard one... I mean even if something seems like it might be healthy, it still so processed it doesn't even taste like real food.
Its more likely some weird food stuff molded into a shape with salt up the wazoo! Now don't get me wrong my weakness is is salty French fries YUM
On this board we love to go after the person who ate a fast food burger... But really if you think about it, its no worse than the other stuff there.
I have had fast food once since surgery. I went to carls junior and ordered a "low carb burger"
It's a burger without the bun, messy but good.
Oh and it lasted several meals, that sucker was big!
Side note it was a treat it tasted good but my stomach was not used to it I think and I got a good clean out, so know I know what to do next time I'm constipated

Not agruing, I understand what you are saying and I was not trying to scold you. I apologize if it was interpretated that way. My point was only that new patients have to be very careful with sugar. I mean thats what got most of us here in the first place in my opinion. I always appreciate honest feedback but this is the only place some people get support so we have to inform positively and honestly so we can all succeed.

rtaylorel reacted to phedre in Hello and thank you to all VSG members - April 3rd Surgery
    Hello Everyone -
Started my research into weightloss surgery about a year and half ago and with much hemming and hawling and a ton of backing and forthing and a little bit of yes then no, I had my surgery on April 3rd of 2013. So, I am currently a week out and quite happy with the decision I made. The first few days where pretty bad but every day scince it has been better and better. As of today I feel pretty much back to normal, not bad for major surgery!!
I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all who bravely post their stories on this site. I never said anything on the forums until today and just lurked for quite a while and though I did not actively participate it was without a doubt indispensiable and without being able to read real and honest stories I am not sure I ever would have been able to make the final decision to go ahead with it. So, thank you all and I hope to do the same in some small way now that I am through the other side of the proverbial looking glass.
