Kyrie got a reaction from 1Day1Life4Now in Am I "Too Young" To Get The Sleeve?
My Dad keeps trying to talk me out of it because I'm "too young for somthing so drastic" and I "haven't tried every other diet out there." He seems convinced that after everything I've been through (I was on my first diet at the age of SEVEN (7)!!) there's still some magical diet that will make me lose all the weight and keep it off.
I don't want to spend the rest of my life dieting and going to the gym for hours everyday and starving. I don't want to have to excessivly count calories and carbs and such. Not for the rest of my life. I can't do that. Dad expects me to spend the rest of my life hungry and exauhsted from dieting, and that is just not somthing I can do!
I want to be able to eat like a normal, health-consious person. I want to be able to fill up on a peice of chicken and some salad. I want to be able to make healthy choices most of the time, but be able to eat "junk" a little bit of the time, too. Just like everyone else. I want to be able to wake up and take a 30 minute walk in the morning, without feeling like I've been hit by a truck. I'd like to be able to peddle my bike up more than 2 hills before gasping for air.
But even though the sleeve will be able to help me achieve the life I want, my dad is still firmly against it. I'm 18, so it's not like he can stop me, but I'd be nice to have his support.

I had surgery not too long ago, and since I started pre-op I've lost 32 pounds, which is great, really, but I'm still wearing the exact same clothes as before. I still look exactly the same. They aren't even loose! And they weren't tight at all before I lost the weight either. Earlier today I tried on a bunch of pants that I thought might fit me b/c they allllllllmost did before surgery.
    NOPE.
I'm just gonna go curl up in a dark hole now.

Go for a long walk and cuss them out the entire time you are gone. Get creative, use gestures, make up really hideous names for them and imagine them all in really humiliating situations. Then go to the mall and pick out all the styles of clothing o want to wear when you lose twenty, thirty, forty pounds and then cuss them some more.
    You'll feel much better.

Get out of there! Go for a walk, a drive anything to take yourself out of the situation. You are only 6 days away from a healthy new lifestyle don't let others bring you down. This is your time to shine!

I'm still pre-op, (surgery is in 10 days!), but I've got a few confessions...
    1. One reason I'm going to Mexico to have my surgery is because I didn't think I'd pass the psyke eval.
    2. I'm more afraid of the flight down there than anything about the surgery.
    3. I'm not telling my dad, or any of my extended family if I can help it.
    4. I'll be in Mexico while my 4th baby brother is being born.
    5. Sometimes I think I'm too young for this (18), but I didn't go to my junior or senior prom because I didn't feel pretty enough to wear a dress, and I don't want to let my weight take any more of my life away from me.
    6. I've been weighing myself several times a day since I started pre-op. I'm down 10 pounds, but I'm pretty sure most of it is Water.
    7. I ate an entire large pizza the day before my pre-op started.
    8. I'm terrified of loose skin and losing my hair.
    9. I've been so focused on my upcoming surgery that I've been slacking in my college classes.
    10. My biggest hope for this is that I'll finally be pretty enough to attract a mate.

I'm only on day three of my two week pre-op diet from hell, and I think I'm going to go on a homicidal rampage. I'm on nothing but liquids, all I have around here that I can eat is some nasty chicken broth and Tomato Soup that I have to strain first which is more trouble than it's worth. I'm dizzy and weak and have a terrible headache.
And there's one of those fun-sized hershey's bars from when my brothers went trick or treating... I'm starting to wonder how bad cheating ONCE could possibly be...
Buuuut, I refuse to sabatoge my own happiness. I mean, what's two weeks of hunger compaired to a lifetime of health, right?
And I've already lost 8 pounds in three days!

I'm getting sleeved on the 13th too! I'm really excited, but pre-op has been awful for me. What are your's like? Mine's two weeks, nothing but Clear liquids :/ ugh, I'm dizzy all the time, but I've lost 8 pounds in three days so I guess it's working!
What's two weeks of discomfort to a lifetime of health, though, right? I can't wait!

Ok so I think I figured out why us heavier peeps are having such a hard time. And it's been said in ways already.
And I could be wrong, but I almost feel like the OP is using it as a form of anorexia. She wants it so she can't eat as much so she won't gain weight in the future. While most of us have cried out to God because of the pain we felt just walking down the damn street. I don't condone anorexia and I don't condone having this surgery for a problem that doesn't yet exist. I DO understand wanting to prevent problems before they arise.... But for some reason it just rubs me the wrong way.
The chick in the bikini pic who had all those plastic surgeries really pisses me off. She had this surgery to be super skinny. I don't want to be super skinny. I want to not hurt. And I want to not die earlier than I should.
OP: do what makes you happy. I really LOVE NZ. I hear nothing but great things about it. If you felt backed into a corner and needed to strike back, that's unfortunate. Do you belong here? I'd hate to say no. But I'm not sure. If you did have he surgery and needed help, I'd help you. If you were a little nicer and promised to not insult people anymore.

Amanda Rae, these people from NZ are really friggin rude. I'm not so sure though if its because they're from New Zeland or If It's because they are thin and we are/were fat. Read back to the beginning of this thread when they were personally attacking me. The type of things they said to me were the type of insults that thin people throw at fat people. That's because these people are thin and want to be REALLY thin via VSG surgery. A person who was heavy in their life, even for a short time, would NEVER say those things to a person who is heavy because they know how they must feel. Being fat is hard. When I reach goal I will always know the struggles of people with serious weight issues.

Wow. Way to take a shot "us high BMIers".
Smh... This thread is shot and bringing out the worst in people. I dealt with this abuse in high school and now I hear this kind of crap from the people who should have the most sympathy.

I agree with prior posts questioning why you would have this surgery at 30 BMI. Seems quite extreme.
    But, to each their own.
There are people here who have struggled with major weight issues for their whole life, and have lots of medical complications as a result, and are seeking surgery to improve their health and extend their life. In my opinion (which, I realize you didn't ask for it, but oh well), this is strictly about vanity. I just don't understand why you'd do this to yourself considering your current weight.
I know this won't deter you, but this is an open forum, and that's my two cents. Luck for you, they'll take anyone's money in Mexico...

I am done with Rollagirl, she can't be helped by me or anyone on this site. For the rest of the readers here, and there are MANY, if you have a 30 BMI and are considering surgery please read this next couple of sentences. I know people are their own worst critics so it's hard to see yourself from the outside, so look at me. Attached again, is a photo of me at age 19 at a 27.5 BMI. Imagine this guy with 20 more pounds which would have put him at a 30 BMI. Does he look like he needs gastric sleeve surgery?

Rollagirl, I don't know what your intellect level is but you need to READ what people are writing. You keep saying that I and a couple others here are on you about your weight. YES WE ARE!!! But not for the reason your mind is calculating it as, we are saying that you are to THIN to get sleeved!!! Read that again....YOU ARE TO THIN TO GET SLEEVED. Also, you are spending valuable time on a website filled with people that have serious weight problems with BMI's that are 40-70, or even higher. These people have tried everything and some are near death. You were obviously smart enough to recognize that you have a problem. You want to do something about it right? How much weight do you want to lose, 30-40 lbs? Then deal with the issues in your mind and go do it! Hell, 30-40 lbs is nothing compared to some of the weight numbers that people here, including myself need to lose. You are better then me because you realized that you had a problem when you hit a BMI of 30, I didn't realize it until my BMI was over 50! Do you think that this surgery is going to cure whatever you have going on in your head? I am here to tell you it's NOT. Over come that FIRST then consider surgery AFTER. But I think you won't need surgery if you fix what's going on in your head first.

Wow. After reading this thread... Wow. Both sides should really reevaluate their behavior.
Big Frank, I get why you were so taken aback by a BMI of 30 resorting to surgery. When I checked how much I would need to weigh to there my 1st thought was, I'd totally rock 205 lbs at 5'9!!! But you're not a woman, Big Frank. And women are punished more than men for being overweight. I did a complete study on this for a sociology project. Also, you don't know if there are any co-morbidities or her family med history. Your initial flabbergasted response did leave something to be desired... In my opinion.
But, the Mean Girl Brigade? If Big Frank's comments lacked tact, then yours were downright cruel. As a human being, not just a woman, who topped the scale at a hefty 405 lbs and a BMI of 59 those comments were out of line and hurtful. My feelings were hurt even though they weren't directed at me.
That's all I have to say.

Laura, to be honest with you, I have taken a light hearted approach to this thread, especially with the comments from fatties on the fatso site telling another fellow fatty how fat he is....kind of ironic and comical actually. Anyways.....the poster BigFatLoser said it best. If someone with a 30 BMI feels that pressured by this discriminating world and resorts to something this drastic, then I SERIOUSLY think she needs to seek psychiatric help. This person has issues a lot deeper then a "weight problem." The doctor is also in question since he obviously cares more about a lousy $5,700, then potentially screwing up even worse someone that already has issues. I'm just being honest.

My goal was simple really. I was conducting an experiment on how much a human being could possibly eat and drink before they split open and spilled all over the ground. I failed. I then figured, ah, the hell with it and decided to go back the other way.

I'm sorry but if at 30 bmi you feel that you are too fat for the world, or however you put it, you clearly are in need of some professional help and should get it before you get the surgery. Just my opinion.
