I don't think WLS is a cop out and those who do don't bother me a bit. I don't care if you choose to tell everyone and if someone else chooses to tell no one. It affects me NONE either way. I've never been one to care what other people think because their opinion of me is none of MY business. Your little jabs and insults are meaningless to me as they are much more telling about you than reflective of me.
You don't have to agree with me about anything, but do not put words in my mouth. Never did I say that exercise and diet got me to where I am today. You stated that NO ONE could lose weight as fast as we are now because YOU failed at it and I pointed out that you are wrong. It's possible, it's just really hard to do and even harder to maintain.
WLS won't guarantee a maintain either. Forming good habits now while my tool is most effective is will guarantee my success, and for me, that includes tracking and exercising. If you don't need to do that, that's fantastic!
I have no need to argue with you nor will I. Continue on and I wish you best success on maintaining your loss.

Thanks- after the leak, the weight loss has been pretty constant which is great- I had worried how it would go with the complications. So I am pleased with the results and proud that I have worked so hard to optimise the outcome - my measure of this is based on my fitness more than the scale though- I still don't own a scale at home, just weigh at work (I work in a hospital) so it helps me resist focusing too much on the scale as opposed to other things but for me, the vital thing after 2 1/2 months in hospital was strength, stamina and fitness

There are many ways to own this. The primary one is that it is your information to do with as you please. If you want to share that's great, but if you want to keep it private it doesn't imply that you are ashamed of it in any way.
Look, you plan many elements of our life. You plan your vacations, and your education and those of your children, and your retirement. To choose to tell someone or not tell someone is just another element of planning your life. If people are surrounded by positive people or in positive situations, sure why not tell. But if you are surrounded by negative people, or negative situations, or you just don't want the attention then the most rational course is to not tell.
Some people (not you) seem to think there is some obligation to tell. If you were having hemorrhoid surgery or a vasectomy would you feel that you had some kind of obligation to tell everyone you saw? It's your private information to do with as you want.

I am a year out of my WLS and have told no one except my significant other. I have done great with this new tool and have lost 204 lbs in past year. Some of my family members think I had hernia repair and I am letting them. As a retired nurse (58) ...I did not want anyone of my friends in health care field to know cause they are very outspoken with negative comments about the few co-workers that got the band over the years.
I am glad I got the surgery but agree with many of you that it is no ones business but mine. My sister who is significantly over weight does not know and never will as she is the worst critic of WLS I have ever known. I didn't even tell my sister about my double mastectomy until a month after the fact....and she lives in same city as me.
I think whatever a person decides about telling is up to them. I loved the comments about the anal fistula and other surgeries ....and applaud the poster who said " why would you ask someone such a personal question."

Great job Jenn !!! We need to all just keep working at using our sleeves. I am now at 163# this morning..... 205 pounds gone gone gone !!!!!

Today is my one year surgi-versary! Down 122 pounds and trying to maintain at 135. (Even though I would secretly like to see 129 on the scale just once!) at my 1 year post op appointment I was told I've lost 98% of my excess weight. I'll take that!

I completely understand how you feel. I have not had my surgery yet (hoping dec), but have decided to keep it to myself. If someone notices and says something, I will say "thank you, I feel good", and continue on my way. If someone becomes persistent about how I did it, I will not lie but say, high Protein, little carbs (truth yes??).
No one has asked me how I gained weight so surely it isn't anyone's business how I lost it.
Just my thoughts & opinion.

@ Namanda...great work on the loss!!! I made it to 215 today....it feels awesome! Still have a long way to go.

Thanks for all the support! Those stalls are frustrating. I must have a very tiny sleeve , as I am lucky to get in 2-3 oz at time. I get my Water and Protein most days and have no room for anything else. I still have a long way to go ....

I am 7 months out and down 105lbs. Went to see a long time friend last night and he said I looked "tiny". I have NEVER been told that!!!
