Macy6 reacted to EllijayFalconFan in Well, I guess this is going to be my gastric sleeve story.
Hey everyone, my name is Travis. This is my first post here and the beginning of what I hope to be a very fulfilling and powerful journey to a healthier body. I guess I'll start by talking about the root of the problem and why I have decided to do this. I am currently 25, will be 26 in October, and currently sitting at 330 pounds. I have always been larger ever since I can remember and it has always been something that has been a part of my life. Thankfully I do not have any kind of health problems from my weight yet. My joints, cholesterol, and blood pressure are all fine. Obesity does not run in my family, my parents are average and my sister is a varsity cheerleader and a flyer at that. I also wouldn't say that I'm sedentary. Even at my size I play full court basketball, can run a mile, and I am an avid kayak fisherman. It's almost been like I have had these chains around me slowing me down my entire life, and quite frankly I'm tired of it. That is why I am counting down the days to my surgery date, September 13th, 2013. I simply cannot wait to start my new life. My surgeon is Dr. Jaime Ponce in Chattanooga, TN. He seems to be a very knowledgeable and kind doctor with pretty good bedside manner. Haha he managed to handle my mother's 1,000 questions and concerns very well during our pre-op meeting last month. So anyways this is me, I look forward to posting here more and speaking with all of you!

I really wouldn't. Your body is well hydrated and in a bit of shock. If you can try to wait out until your two week check up (easier said than done) it will be a pleasant surprise.

I've always wanted to volunteer for Search & Rescue in my county. I live in a heavily active, 4 season community. There are people lost in the snow every winter, out in the desert every summer, hiking trails, River rescues..... Every November they out a news article out seeking volunteers, every November I say "next year is the year" I am going to do it!

I had the same warning. I was also told that is the statistic and in his practice his sleevers are loosing as much as his RnY patients. On paper they don't expect me to get below 210.... 210?!? I don't think so! I plan on blowing that thought out of the Water. However once I hit that number, statistically, I am a sleeve success.

Had 9 month post op appointment this week. Meeting & slightly exceeding 80 gm of Protein, with at least 65 coming from food. Was advised I no longer need the daily Protein Shakes. So, so happy.

Well, my school is funny.... I have class one time a week and lab combined so I sit in seat for around 8-10 hours (depending on the class) once a week. I had it all planned out to where I wouldn't miss any class time, and my surgeon decided to take a vacation (It is OK, well rested surgeon = safer surgery) I am actually missing one class/lab, but I went to my direct advisor and explained what I was working towards, and why. I told her I was willing to postpone the surgery (yet reluctantly) until December. She actually gave me her blessing, told me not to worry about it. I have a couple classmates who are taking notes for me the day I do miss and will have 9 days between surgery and in seat class again. I will have five weeks before a clinical rotation, my surgeon has a four week restriction. The professor directly over the class was informed and also gave me her blessing, they both said that they could tell I have done my homework and they agree that for my health it is what is in the best interest of me. I am slightly nervous about being in seat 9 days later, but half the day I will be sitting and the other half is lab, but it is never highly physical. We shall see what my complaints are in a couple weeks!

Hello everyone! I am a RN and have been a nurse for 9 yrs. My nursing career began in Mother/Baby then to L&D. Moved up into management at the hospital and decided to spread my wings to being a manager at a women’s health clinic. Due to a move to Texas I am now a high risk maternity case manager….LOVE IT!!!
My surgery date is August 21st. I started my liquid pre-op diet today and I am going to bed hungry. I hope I can continue to stay positive until my surgery.

As of August 4th 2013, 3 months post- op, i am down 63lbs and i know i can reach goal if i work hard and eat right.

Well..... Rather than being rude I will tell you.... Good for you in your work towards this! Secondly I am in Colorado but I do know that some others in my support group who have gone through Colorado Medicaid have heard something in just about 14 days. How long is "forever"? Are you sure you know the right submission date? Just wondering if it took your surgeons office longer to submit the paperwork than what you are aware of? Have you asked them the general turn around time from your particular insurance? Good Luck! Looking forward to your acceptance post!

Macy6 reacted to djbwilson in TODAY IS GOAL DAY!
Well, TODAY IS THE DAY! I REACHED MY GOAL TODAY!! I began at my highest weight of 244 last Fall, had surgery on March 19th this year, and reached my 150lb goal TODAY!! I feel like bells and whistles should be going off, but instead, I have celebrated by a 2 mile walk, 30 minutes of weights, a thankful prayer to God for the strength and gumption to do this, a fried egg Breakfast, and a sobering, humbling new outlook..THIS IS A WAY OF LIFE FOREVERMORE...I am just beginning to see that this is only the real beginning of the way the rest of my life needs to be..good food, exercise, thankfulness, and being more conscious of my choices and actions where my body is concerned. At first, I thought goal day would be the day where I returned to my gluttonous ways, at least a little bit, like it was the end of this period in my life...it's not at all. Today is just the fresh start I needed, with the realization that the hard part really starts here, in maintaining what I have learned the last few months. This is no diet, this is a permanent change in my body and my life. (By the way, I have become very thankful for this website, and each of you on this journey with me!)

Yeah, much to my dismay. You would have thought I would have been excited but instead it made me so nervous. I was month 4 when I found out and I thought I will had another 3 months and all of a sudden it was 2 months and than I got nervous. Was I ready? Had I learned all I wanted to learn? What I prayed would come quick, sped up even faster. I am fine and actually I am having surgery when I hoped I would. Now I am thankful it was a month earlier because otherwise I would be having surgery in December, but with the month gone I can have it in August. (I am in school)

Macy6 got a reaction from TES in Finding a post op Doctor
If you can find a bariatric surgeon who will take you I would definitely say to try to see one of them. I have "heard" via the forums that some bariatric surgeons are resistant to seeing patients who were sleeved in Mexico, I have not had first hand experience with that though. I know my surgeon is quite open to seeing bariatric patients from other doctors and they have made it very clear that I will have a dual relationship with them and my PCP. My plan is to see my PCP for any medical issues including; my depression, my female stuff and coughs and colds. I will see my surgeon for anything related to my weight, weight loss, lab work, etc...

JustinNC congrats on losing 112 lbs!!!!
    Terrific!!!
i am 19 month post op - at goal
I "respectively" disagree with your post
sometimes - it does get tiring hearing all the "redundant" questions concerning stalls, bowel movements, vomitting, et al
many people skip over the topic headings of "stall", vomitting, et al
    thats ok and understandable
some/many silly people asking "hmmmm, its day two, and i just had 3 slices of pizza, is that ok???"
they know its not ok!!!! "what kindof silly newly sleeved person would do such a thing???
People can/and should search certain words/problems
but - i think they need/want someone to talk to, reassuring they will be ok
they can't "hear" a book - or the search area
sure its crazy that they ate that pizza, they are aware of that, NEWBIES are people too!!!!
the mistake is done and over with - they just want to hear from others they "still will live"
there are people that might "yell" in essence saying how stupid are you???
    what good does that do????
    BUT...............
    I remember when i was a newbie
i was thankful that these questions were being asked and answered!!!!
to many OP (me included) you/I appreciate a direct response to my own personal question
you feel like someone is in the next room - being concerned/talking to you - trying to help you/me
we are here to support each other
thats the name of the game
but i sometimes feel like "we/me are paying it forward" - helping other newbies et al - "they" were there when i needed them
    to all newbies and OP
go ahead - ask your questions!!!!
    we're here for you, regardless............
but..........please don't eat that pizza yet
    kathy
