The body is funny and will hold on to weight if you aren't getting enough calories. Try lowering exercise to 3 miles a day and/or adding a shake. I didn't do nearly this much at week 3.

I understand that surgeons are hesitant to follow patients they didn't do surgery for. But any primary care provider, including nurse practitioners, can follow you for any labwork you need. I'm a nurse midwife and follow labs on many female patients that need frequent lab work (midwives are mid-level providers for women that do much more than deliver babies). There is no need to seek out a bariatric center. What about patients in areas of the US that are nowhere near a bariatric center?

Not disclosing accurate health information to an insurance company is dishonest (and criminal), not disclosing it to your doctor is stupid, but not disclosing it to people who have no right to know it is neither dishonest or deceptive.

I started out telling on immediate family, but then closer to my surgery I told more people and the girls at work.. everyone has been super supportive and it's nice that I can just be truthful about it.. it was my choice, and I'm happy with it.. good luck

I used Dr Garcia 3/2013. We were the first day of surgery at florence Oasis Hospital (I think they changed to a different one.) great experience 100%. But I'm going back for a revision to Mini Bypass, and Dr Garcia is a lot more than other surgeons. Anyone have any recommendations?

Look what happens when I don't check the forum for a day! Wow.
So, in my opinion, WLS is like finding religion. New converts to any religion are in one of two camps. Some are so excited they want to run out and tell the whole world, so that maybe someone else can find what they've found. And when people ask what has changed about them, they say they've joined XYZ church. And that okay.
Some people are more private and chose the more solitary route, telling a few close friends or someone who is struggling spiritually and seems to really need an answer. But mostly, they grow in their faith, gain confidence and then after that they may feel more confident sharing.
We are all on the same path to wellness and a new life, regardless of how much, when, and to whom we disclose.

@RealScoobyDoo got a reaction from JAM72 in How restricted is your sleeve?
I'm 3 years out. Can't handle even one sip of soda or beer...potatoes in any form hit my stomach with a "thud" and make me miserable, so I still only have a few bites. No problem with dairy or spicy foods. Pork is okay as long as it's ground or pulled, but I have to chew any meat forever. I don't drink alcohol, but I make up for it in coffee. As far as volume goes, I can eat maybe 3/4 of a small McDonald's hamburger. No fries. 3/4 of a small hot dog in the bun, but I usually pull off half the bread of whatever I'm eating. I finally can eat salad! Took about 2 years, though. Hope this helps.

Just my experience, but after a year I started taking Ibuprofen for my chronic neck pain. I tried the long-acting alternatives, but because meds pass through the stomach so quickly I was only getting 6 hours max of relief. After about 3-4 months I was in the hospital with severe gastritis. No more NSAIDS for me, ever.

I didn't think I would be the one to post about a stall,, but I stayed the same from 3 weeks post op to 5 1/2 weeks. We just got back from a one week cruise and voila, I dropped 3 pounds in the cruise. The only thing I can think of was that I made an effort to grt in all my Water since it was hot. How can you NOT lose weight on 800cal/day? It's gotta come off...

@RealScoobyDoo got a reaction from missheidi47 in Artificial sugar vs real sugar
The one thing that scared me into having the sleeve surgery was being diagnosed with prediabetes, and I was actually 0.1 off of the diagnosis of diabetes with an A1C of 6.4.
After the surgery, within 3 months I was, and continue to have normal blood sugars. I test myself fasting every 3 months.(I'm almost 2 years out from surgery).
I didn't do artificial sweeteners before the surgery, and after I find that most of them give me the trots or I don't like the taste. I don't drink my calories anymore in the form of sodas or sugary coffee drinks.
After your surgery you will need to see what your body can tolerate. Just keep in mind that the foods that cause us to become diabetic are those carbs like bread, Pasta, baked goodies, sugary drinks, etc. If you were a rat and ate nothing but artificial sweeteners all day long, I'm sure you would be covered in tumors and die young. But you're not. Making a choice between a packet or two a day of stevia, Truvia, Splenda, Sweet and Low, Nutrasweet or plain old sugar should not that big of a deal, IMHO.

I used Dr Fernando Garcia at Oasis Hospital in Tijuana in March 2013. IThink I paid $4300. Great experience! Pain meds scheduled so I never "suffered". Everyone was very attentive, and recovery at the Marriot was nice. Excellent care! And this summer my partner (a physician herself) went to him and is already wearing size 8 jeans. (I'm wearing 12s.)

@RealScoobyDoo got a reaction from Annie04 in Dr. Garcia success story :)
Hey there...I had surgery w Garcia on March 29 and am down 48 pounds...206 to 158, and size 20-22 to 12-14. And I feel great! Really pretty effortless...can't do meat, except for tiny amounts of ground beef and soft chicken. Best thing I've ever done, great surgeon, great experience.
For what it's worth, in the US it's often nurses who take out staples and drains, so doing that with a smile and good bedside manner is not what makes a good doctor.
