  1. Mary, You're right this is a support forum. You have a plan in place. You asked if this is a step toward a slide down a slippery slope, and the answer is "yes." It can start with one slip up You can search this forum and see many a person who says they stay away from certain foods because they are triggers or they feed an urge like carbs or sugar and then they lose control. As ProudGranny said pizza is a hot topic on the site. I have seen posts ream people for eating something even when fully healed. I don't believe that one of us posting to this reply did that to you. Sometimes when you post you get an answer you may not like because it isn't what you want to hear. When I was in the hospital an aide told me about a person who ate seafood too soon, came back through the ER and wound up dying so I worry about people who eat foods too soon. We are trying to be helpful and help you and give support. If that is preachy, it wasn't intended that way.

  3. I share with my husband. I have become a very cheap date to take out for dinner. If I do have left overs, I get three sometimes four meals out of it.
  4. Sometimes I wake up at night and my mouth is so dry I have to get up and get a drink. I also take a medicine which gives you a dry mouth so it may be a side effect. I did not get eggs until the soft stage. Some people have problems with eggs. I was fortunate and could eat them. I have some days where I can eat two eggs over mediumand others when 1 egg scrambled with cheese fills me up.
  5. 12 miles on the bike and 6 miles walking this week. I am on vacation this next week so will be doing some extra moving and riding. Will make my goal this month.
  6. GG, Enjoy the ride to get to goal. Don't rush the process. I have learned a lot of patience through my work. I work in project management and yes you want to get everything done quickly, but it has to be correct and approved by so many people. This takes time which has helped me not want instantaneous results. When I met with my surgeon's PA at my last visit, I mentioned my goal. She suggested first hitting a goal 20 pounds higher. I have weighed that goal before and know I won't be happy at it. One of my goals is to have a normal BMI which seems like a lifetime ago since I had one. I tend to be a person too if I don't complete the goal, I can fall off course because I think I didn't make it anyway so this won't hurt. I am working on the messages I send to myself and making myself aware when these messages start to appear. All these message if I listen to them will keep me from reaching my goal or delay it. This time I am not going to sabotage myself and give in to my fat brain.
  7. I had some spotting after my surgery. I am post menopausal so it was quite a surprise. I also had another surgery 11 days after my sleeve so it may have been related to it.
  8. Soft foods can be eggs, cheese, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, sugar free pudding, low Fiber crackers like Saltines and Ritz, canned fruit in their own juice with out sugar, soft baked fish, and yogurt. These foods were taken from the nutrition book I received from my doctor's office. I got these foods starting day into the third week post-op. If your doctor or nutritionist gave you different foods, follow the plan you were given. You can also search the site for soft food suggestions. Here is the food and nutrition topic forum url. http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/388-food-nutrition/
  9. Hi, I will put my two cents in here. You were only 18 days post-op when you ate pizza. I don't know what stage of food you are supposed to be on at this time. If this is not on the plan at this time, you shouldn't eat it. You are still healing at this time. Most of us had weight loss surgery because we didn't eat healthy before and overdid things around food. Right now is the time to follow your doctor's orders and nutritionist advice. They have been doing this and have a lot of success helping patients achieve their goals. Pushing the limit this early can be dangerous. You can search this forum and see stories, and yes they include death from eating a food too soon. I myself am not willing to take that risk. You get the best results in the first 6 months so try to take advantage of this time period. Form good eating habits so they become the norm for you and more automatic. You will be faced with more instances of making a healthy choice when tempted by other foods. Learn from this and try to do better next time. I am not trying to be preachy but it is important to follow the rules and not think we know better than the doctor this early in the game. I am a revision patient which means that I have had a previous weight loss surgery before my sleeve. I followed the pre and post-op diet to a "T". and I still managed to have problems and had to have my lap band removed.
  10. Linda If you start off weighing less when you had your surgery, you are not going to have a big bang loss like others. If you are a revision patient, most times this is true. One of the worst things you can do is compare yourself to others. It can cause you to be disappointed in your own accomplishments. Here is a link to why comparison is bad for you, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/daniela-tempesta-lcsw/comparing-yourself_b_4441288.html?utm_hp_ref=fb&ir=GPS+for+the+Soul&src=sp&comm_ref=false There are several others throughout this site. This site will let you see what % of you excess weight loss you have lost which puts this in perspective to your starting weight. http://bea.amaya.com/PercentEWL.html I have lost 27.5 pounds and am 8 weeks out. If you compare my weight to others, I am far behind others. I don't worry because I started at a BMI of 35. According to the calculator I am currently have lost 37% of my excess weight loss. Also, if you did measurements before your surgery, take them and see how many inches you have lost. If you did not take measurements yet, do so now, so you have another benchmark for comparison when the scale does not seem to be moving.
  11. I bought some and personally did not care for it. It is a in a pouch and on the outside says to refrigerate when received. It is a powder that you have to mix with Water.
  12. Farmgirl, I am so sorry for your loss. I agree with newat52. You need to take care of yourself right now. You are healing from surgery and the loss of a parent. Those two items are a lot to deal with in addition to worrying about Christmas. The mother in us wants to take care of everyone else first.. This isn't the time. Your family is all grown and will understand. Let them know Christmas will be different this year and tell them that if they are expecting the usual dishes, they will need to come over and prepare it. The world won't end if the presents aren't wrapped and Baked Alaska isn't prepared. This is the first Christmas without your mother so it is going to be even more difficult. As you know, things will get easier down the road, but there will be times when the memories still bring sadness. I hope you have the merriest Christmas possible for you under the circumstances.
  13. My doctor's office said to have no meal last more than 30 minutes. If it takes longer than that, your body can start processing the food and this could lead to grazing and taking in more calories. They said it should take 15 to 20 minutes to eat 1/2 cup of food and no longer than 30 minutes. This is when you are 6 or more weeks out.
  14. Nancy, I am not sure what title you want to change or add to a title. Please let us know so we can assist you. If you prefer, please send me a private message. Thanks.
  15. Hello want2bsleeved87, Welcome to BariatricPal. I have UHC and my claim was approved in one week. It was submitted on 9/11, reviewed and approved on 9/18. My doctor's office does not schedule the actual date until they have the letter in writing. They want to make sure the correct surgery and codes are listed on the letter. I swear they sent the letter via pony express since it took 9 days to arrive. The doctor's office called me on 9/27 to schedule surgery. I had my surgery on 10/25 due to work commitments. I have been told it can take up to a month. My employer goes through Optum, and the case manager told me they have 15 business days to respond. Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

Hi, I am wondering if anyone else suffers from TMJ. I have a mouth guard which I wear at night and wake up the next morning usually without any pain. By the end of my work day my jaw is killing me, ear pain and I have a major headache. I take 2 hydrocodone for the pain and it doesn't even touch it. The pain at times is so bad it hurts to chew. I am going to see an oral surgeon in early January. Does anyone have any suggestions, or if you suffer from it, what has helped you? Thanks in advance.
  17. Hi Britt, welcome to BariatricPal. It's perfectly normal to be nervous and excited before surgery. It is an unknown since you have not had surgery, I'm sure you are worried about how much pain you will experience, and might have doubts if it will work for you. I know I had these. I got four hours of sleep the night before my surgery. You will probably get plenty of sleep tomorrow after surgery. Good luck with your surgery, and please let us know how you are doing. You might want to go into your profile and change your surgery type to sleeve. That way you will get topics related to your surgery type. You are currently showing as a lapband patient. If you have any questions on how to change your surgery, please let me know..
  18. You might check this forum. It is dedicated to members who are having sleeve surgery in January. http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/998-january-2014-sleevers/ Good luck with your upcoming surgery.
  19. Dilaudid was the pain medication I was also given. Morphine is not nearly as effective on me. I asked my doctor if he would prescribe dilaudid and he said, "yes, just remind me closer to your surgery time." I was somewhat worried about what he would think when I requested a specific pain medicine, but he also knew how many surgeries I have had and could justify the request.
  20. I had my band in July 2007 and had it removed in October of this year. My band was removed and the sleeve performed in one procedure. The total time for everything was at 2 hours. I did not have a lot of scar tissue from my band. That was my biggest fear going in for surgery, is that they would be unable to perform the sleeve at the same time due to the amount of scar tissue. Unfortunately, there is no way to know in advance how much scar tissue is present until you are in the operating room and the cameras have been placed inside of you. My doctor told me he is able to perform 90% of his band to sleeve revisions in one procedure. Good luck and please keep us posted after your surgery.
  21. Hi Christine and welcome to BariatricPal, Are you looking for someone who lives near you? 22. Congratulations on your loss and moving to the next stage of foods. I remember the first food I had after my surgery, it tasted so good, and was nice to chew. Glad you will have at least one holiday next week when you return to work. The first week back can be a bit tiring.
  23. Here is the link to the powder room and I will ask someone to move this to the powder room area. http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/432-powder-room-ladies-gone-wild/
  24. Some people have problems with eggs in the beginning. I know when I add cheese to my eggs it seems to make them more filling. You will be able to eat more further out. In the beginning, when you try a food if it doesn't agree with you, wait a week or so and try it again. Sometimes your stomach is not ready for it even though your diet sheets say you can have it. You may also have internal swelling from the surgery. You will be able to take in a larger amount soon. Good luck.
