CharmingTortoise got a reaction from No game in 7 days and kids want mcdonalds
Just me, but I would have told them "eff to the no!" on McDonald's. But that's just me. A month in according to my given meal plan would mean absolutely nothing from McDonald's except their bottled Water. I would think fried anything would absolutely kill your stomach at this point. It really hasn't even healed completely by that point. I'd hold off on the fast food, indefinitely!

CharmingTortoise got a reaction from No game in Ode to greek yogurt.
I get to try the Greek on Monday. Cannot wait! Good to know about sweetening it with Stevia. Will definitely try that if it's too sour. I also would love to hear the recipe for the frozen Protein Bites.< /p>

I did have foul smeeling "bathrooms" for about a week post op (make that week 2 since I didn't go for the first week). I think it was due to the fact that I hadn't gone for a whole week.
No problems since. Normal bm's

CharmingTortoise reacted to Dickens22 in Difficult question to ask.
The duodenal switch ( the sleeve + a intestinal bypass) does make smelly gas and bathroom problems if the person eats a lot of fat. I have know a few people with that surgery. The sleeve itself does not cause the same issues. I have had mine since 6/26 and no problems. I asked my doc before I had my surgery because I did not want those problems. He said it was the bypass part not the sleeve that was the cause.

ya know, sometimes **** just stinks even without surgery....and invariably it is never one's own that is doing the stinking. (not to be indelicate - just real.)

CharmingTortoise reacted to Daydra in I'm having some trouble
Is it just mentally repulsed or are there any physical symptoms? Do you get any unpleasant sensations (not necessarily painful or uncomfortable) when whatever you swallow moves toward your stomach? Any nausea? Either way, you should call your surgeons office. Seriously. There could be something that's off just a little bit that could be addressed and make you feel so much better. Also, serious nutrient deficiencies/dehydration is nothing to play with. If you haven't had your gallbladder out, that might be something to investigate as well.
And really? 110 pounds in 5 months is "pretty good"? You need to give yourself more credit. That is freaking awesome!
Congratulations and good luck! I hope that you are able to get it figured out soon. You certainly can't safely go along as described for very long.

CharmingTortoise reacted to italian-girl in Need support not doing the right things at 3 weeks pre op
Nobody is perfect. Everyone is gonna slip at some point, you just have to remember why you had the surgery and remember to stick with it... Tomorrows another day, so you lost a battle today you still have a war to win. Keep your chin up.

CharmingTortoise reacted to mokee in Ouch :(
I used a heating pad and heating blanket the first 3 months because I was so cold. Colder than I had ever been in my life. I put the pad on my stomach and I was alright. Take it easy, this is your time to heal and get better. Take the word of an old lady, the dirt will always be there.

I'm am old nurse, 37yrs an RN. I write health protocols and train staff. As I was writing a protocol about obesity in children and adults I was embarrassed at my own hypocrisy. It got my attention in a big way. Time to start walking the walk.

CharmingTortoise reacted to cindymg in My husband is killing me!
Here's what I do: you know that 90% of the enjoyment in food is actually in the smell. That's why people who lose their sense of smell get really thin, because they can't smell food anymore.
When I gave up sugar years ago, I learned that just because something smells good, doesn't mean I have to stuff it in my face. I learned to bask in the smell, roll around in it, and get my enjoyment from that.
I have lovely memories of brownies, Cookies, cakes. I think of them like an old lover. It was fun while it lasted, but I certainly don't want it inside me again!

Go ahead...eat the bacon...you will vomit and your mind will associate bacon with pain and vomiting. You will never crave bacon again.

CharmingTortoise reacted to Butterthebean in How do you avoid wasting?
I don't like wasting money...but the fear of wasting food helped me become obese in the first place. Many is the time I ate something just because I couldn't tolerate letting it go to waste. I had to let go of that mindset. My point is, if you do happen to make more than you need, and you just can't save it for later...don't feel bad about tossing it. That's better than packing it onto your body fat stores like I did all those years before getting sleeved.

CharmingTortoise reacted to Madam Reverie in VSG on Youtube!
I overdosed on them. Found myself saying in my head (and sometimes not in my head) 'Oh doooooo shut up!!!' I'm an impatient sort if I'm looking for concise information. I like my information how I like my food; fast. Frankly, I don't give a rats about cats, dogs and other pets. Not particularly interested in people's children. Okay, before I get lambasted here, I understand that there's an element of investiture when people do videos over a long period of time, but I do wish people would get to the point. There was one particular person who is about 4.5 years out from her VSG that I really ended up shouting at through the screen. This time it was more along the lines of 'Jesus H, will you shut up moaaaaaning! You have IBS, so what, so does 33.33% of the population. Stop drinking rocket-fuel coffee in the morning which affects your autonomic nervous system and wondering why you then have to run to the toilet afterwards?!!!! Stop whinging at the screen to covet sympathy and banal statements of 'oh man, that's bad' and go and read some medical journals!'.... Yeah, I'm kinda impatient like that...
