  1. QofDisks, That sound AMAZINGLY delicious! I too like the taste of natural foods. My daughter has type 1 diabetes since she was 11 and We have strived for all of us to eat a better, more balanced diet. Unfortunately, some people including my daughter just cannot have natural sugars so she uses artificial, while I can go au naturale, eat sweetener, or eat sugar. I actually prefer kefir to yogurt, but they both taste so similar when I get the plain version.
  2. Have you experienced a stall in your weight loss? Has it been 2 weeks or more since the scale has moved? If so read on. Chances are really good that IF you are following the Dr's guidelines you are most likely having small body adjustments and have lost size. Start by measuring your thighs, upper arm, forearm, neck, waist, hips, chest. I encourage everyone to do this twice a month. It a true stall is when all of your numbers, including the scale doesn't move. That is something you can show the Dr and NUT and you can work on figuring out how to solve the issue. The scale can give discouraging (and misleading) numbers, but cover up the numbers with a piece of masking tape and put your goal weight on the tape. Only find out your true weight from your Dr. at check ups because that is the weight that is going to matter when it is jotted down in your record. It is stressful enough trying to readjust to life post op and enjoy foods one at a time, why add more by constantly worrying about stalls? In addition to measuring yourself I found out in my San Diego support group that many have experienced stalls/plateaus. Almost all of them swore by eating avocado with every meal for a week to break the plateau. View the .pdf file that explains a bit more about this and the science behind how this works.
  3. Call me super positive, but, have any of you actually measured yourself? I mean really measured your thighs, upper arm, forearm, neck, waist, hips, chest? Chances are really good that IF you are following the Dr's guidelines you are most likely having small body adjustments and have lost size. I encourage everyone to do this twice a month. I did it just so I can keep track and if I do ever have a plateau, I will know it is a true stall when EVERYTHING doesn't move. That is something I can show the Dr and NUT and we can work on figuring out how to solve the issue. I know that the scale can give discouraging (and misleading) numbers, but cover up the numbers with a piece of masking tape and put your goal weight on the tape. Only find out this info from your Dr. at check ups because that is the weight that is going to matter when it is recorded in your record. It is stressful enough trying to readjust to life post op and enjoy foods one at a time, why add more? On another note, I did ask a few people in my San Diego Support group about hitting stalls/plateaus. Almost all of them swore by eating avocado with every meal for a week to break the plateau. When I can I will upload a .pdf file that explain a bit more about this.
  4. Aw, Right after surgery I had similar feelings.. mainly I thought, "What did I do to myself?" and this was because I was very happy with my love of food. I didn't eat bad, I just ate a lot; and now I lost my friend and I am stuck with this liquid friend. More of us know exactly what you are a feeling. Some of it has to do with the hormones, some of it has to do with head hunger, and some of it has to do with reality. You have the sleeve, so now you have to move forward and learn to re-enjoy foods, one at a time. In the beginning you will feel ill and this has a lot to do with the Protein shakes. Find a good one and you will be ok. You can still have your food friend.. he just can't be your food lover anymore, LOL. Try some samples from unjury.com and Syntrax nectar in chocolate Truffle, vanilla bean torte, and strawberry mousse. Switching it up can definitely help with the nausea. P.M. me if you want to talk.
  5. I spoke to a few people about this and they SWORE by eating avocados with every meal for a week and it broke their stall. I guess it wouldn't hurt, right?
  6. Oooo.. I can't wait to get to pureed. Well, actually I want to move past puree and go to soft foods. tbomb we can have potted meat/spam at the puree stage!
  7. These are all fantastic ideas. I just wanted to share something with everyone that I experienced tonight. So there was Protein in unexpected places... Hubby took me out on a date tonight. We went out for Thai food. I don't know of any good Thai places in SD but we chose one and we ordered the seafood Tom Yum Soup. I have had this before and it is delicious. I had some broth and he had the full soup. It was all good until I was almost done with my cup and noticed all sorts of things floating around in it. Ground chili's, oil, fish remnants from the stock, and wait... what is this I see?? a bug. OMG.. a bug... ew. It looked like a roach. I felt ill immediately. Hubby was trying to calm me down so I wouldn't puke. Thankfully I didn't. But he did....LOL Does anyone think this is a coincidence when this is on our news? http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/health/UN-Wants-You-to-Eat-More-Bugs-207277711.html
  8. Give your body time. Remember it is trying to hold on to everything you put int but eventually the scale will move. I bet that your measurement have changed too and you haven't checked that in awhile. Try not to weigh yourself it will only make you go nuts. In another post I suggested that others put masking tape over the number part of the scale, and then write down their goal weight. So, every time they step on it they are forced to only see their goal weight and wait until they visit a DR. for their actual weight. They could also bend over and rip that tape off but then they know it would defeat the purpose of not stressing over it, and you would lose site of thinking about your goal not the current weight. Good Luck to you. It will come off. Hang in there hun!
  9. To me, I thought most of the fruit juice flavors were disgusting. The only exception was the fuzzy navel, but I wasn't THAT crazy about it. I haven't tried crystal sky. I have in my possession strawberry mousse, vanilla bean torte, and chocolate truffle. The best one with Water is the chocolate truffle as it tastes like a yoo hoo. The rest taste better with milk, or milk and kefir/yogurt. Once I get to the stage when I can add fruit I am sure that my taste buds may change a bit.
  10. Ok continue eating what you are eating and supplement with Protein drinks/teas/pudding/ideas posted here. The idea about the pudding and the iced tea is awesome. I also agree about adding some to cottage cheese and the mashes potatoes. The ONLY issue with adding some unflavored to food is that it can become unstable (texture changes) at temps above 140 degrees.
  11. At 3 weeks I am on Pureed foods... Spacedust gave you some very good advice. Anything soft and super moist will be your best friend in this stage.
  12. If you get Unjury's Strawberry sorbet you can make popsicles, jello, and fruit jell pies with it! You can add it to some lemonade for a strawberry lemonade drink, or do like my friend does and make it with some yogurt for a strawberry cheesecake flavor.
  13. Mine said no gum at all.... hahaha.. yeah right! I think all it does is move into your small intestines anyway. The stomach can't really digest gum very well.
  14. I'm in SD but in Point Loma area. I know there are some people on here, it will just be a matter of time before we find them all.
  15. That is AWESOME! So much has changed. I wish you luck and no problems that I had. Just know that if for some reason you are having to jump through hoops, ask to go to a MTF. The hassle I went through was such a nightmare. Good Luck!
  16. There is a Veterans forum that may be of more help. I am sorry this is happening to you. I hope that soon this will pass and you will deliver a wonderful healthy baby.
  17. My doc said I could, but check with yours to make sure
  18. Hi! I had way too many problems with an off base approval, plus it took a really long time even though I was clearly in need. I don't think the sleeve is covered; only Lapband and RNY....but these things change all the time so who knows. I ended up going to Balboa through their MTF and their program is AWESOME. I think the sleeve is covered through Balboa and Bethesda MTF's.
  19. Ok... so the Gatorade at night does help a little with not being excessively thirsty when awakening.
  20. Vita Coco and Coco 1 are really good. GOYA makes one but they have added sugar in it and it is sickeningly sweet.
  21. Ooo, One thing that need to be brought up is the beginning signs of dehydration. Dizziness can be from dehydration as well. I know someone brought up that loose stool can cause dehydration. So, if you have loose stools and dizziness I would suggest to up the water intake.
  22. Sometimes when I am getting close to "full" I start belching. When I am full I start sneezing. It feels weird to look at a bottle of water and get full off of 1 in from the top of the cap right now. I look forward to being bale to quench my thirst. Sassygirl06 looks like she is 9 months out. I wonder if that is when she noticed she could do that.
  23. I don't ever weight myself. I like to be surprised when I go to the Dr. Just put some masking tape over the number part of the scale. On the tape write down your goal weight. Now EVERY time you step on you will ONLY see your goal weight and are forced to either wait until you see the Dr. or bend over and remove the tape (which you KNOW will be wrong).
