BMI 62.2, pre-op and worried about anesthesia
I have a BMI of 53 and just had an endoscopy a couple of weeks ago and had no problems whatsoever with the anesthesia. I had never been put to sleep before so I was anxious about it too but everything went well. Good luck to you!

Transfering to alcohol?
This is my fear, too. I only drink on New Year's Eve and maybe, MAYBE a single drink with dinner two other times a year. Seriously, I drink so little I may as well be a tee-totaler. HOWEVER, and I cannot believe I'm even confessing this, I recently bought a small bottle of Southern Comfort and keep it in my nightstand just because I feel better knowing it's there. I bought it when I started trying to lose weight pre-op and was stressing out about everything. I haven't even opened the bottle and I've had it over a month but somehow it's comforting to me. (No pun intended.) =) This worries me because my dad and brother are alcoholics. I'm going to have to watch myself carefully after I'm banded, I suppose. I'm sitting here trying to analyze myself to understand why a practically non-drinker like me would do such a thing and why I find it so comforting but my mind is blank.

Reviews of protein powders?
I'm adding my second thumbs up for AchievOne coffee drinks. I just tried the Vanilla Nut and loved it and I don't even like coffee!!!! Thank God I found another one because I was worried that I'd start hating the Unjury eventually if that's all I could drink.

Will know tomorrow if UHC denies...

What does "watch your personals" mean?
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it might mean, "your boobs and twat will get saggy so watch out!"

I feel like such a fool! Warning this post contains a "break-up" email*
All I can mutter over and over again while I stare aghast at the screen is....WTH? WTH? WTH? I'm so sorry that you are hurting but your friend sounds like an emotionally crippled baby. I hope you find a new and true BETTER best friend soon. *hug*

Reviews of protein powders?
I just wanted to add another vote for Unjury. It's the only one I've tried (and I've tried dozens) that didn't make me gag. It's actually tasty!

Bad family experience :(
Hugs to you, Trisha! I'm sorry your brother is an ass. I know how much that can hurt. Believe me, I do. I hope that your talk with your Dad tomorrow clears the air and empowers you in the future! I wish I could help!

JulieNYC's Lateral Thigh Lift and Brachioplasty
I'm so excited about updates in this thread. Yay for you and yay for us since you share your experiences with us! (I guess it's bad that I hate you because your dad is a plastic surgeon? My dad is a mortician so I shudder to think what I might get a discount on some day!) =)

The long wait, Banding in 2008
RedTulips, that was a great post! I've been on my farewell to food tour and feeling miserable and getting bigger by the day. I think your line about knowing that the weight you lose pre-op won't come back is going to help me tremendously as I try to get back on track. Thank you!

The long wait, Banding in 2008
Yep, I started the process in May and won't be banded until February of 2008 at the earliest and that is IF my insurance company doesn't act like a bunch of asshats. It's frustrating but I'm one of those sappy people who believes that delays happen for a reason so I'm going with it. Good luck!

Size No-man's land!
I've been in the triple digit X's for so long that I didn't even know that 1X and XL were different! I'm going to be in for a lot of surprises along the way!

Any <Insert Apocalyptic Adjective here> Obese people getting/have the band?
I can't really answer your question since I "only" have 200 pounds to lose! (I'm such a petite flower!) But I did want to tell you that this "holycrapwhathaveyoudone!" -obese. made me laugh out loud. I think we should definitely recommend that category to the AMA. :Banane20:

A Pleasant Realization . . .
That was weird. I just dreamed about this thread! I woke up at 6 this morning and stayed up until nine. So of course, I had to go back to bed and take a nap! =) Anyway, while I was sleeping I dreamed that I gave away all of my spring and summer clothes and my Mom (who in real life is super supportive of me) kept saying, "Gibson, you'd better think twice about that. What if you can't have the surgery for some reason?" lol I was so exhilarated in my dream!

What interests do you have that most people think is strange?
I'm pretty much obsessed with School House Rock. I mean, I know everyone LIKES School House Rock, but I like it so much that when I get depressed I put in the videos and they pull me out of my funk every time.

Being debanded help! terrified!
My mother is terrified of anesthesia, so much so that the last time she had surgery she grabbed the anesthesiologist and said, "Please don't let me die or I'll split hell wide open!" Well, needless to say that freaked the doctor out and when it was all said and done he said he took extra special care with her because she had scared HIM! Please, tell your doctor about your fears and maybe they can help you by either assuring you with facts or, my personal favorite, giving you extra drugs! *hugs*

Kentucky, "who's your Doctor"
Hello fellow Kentuckians! I'm jumping through hoops with Dr. Tompkins and Kings Daughters right now. I have Humana insurance and I'm wondering how hard it is to get approved with them? I've dotted all my i's and crossed all my t's paperwork and doctor visit wise but I'm worried that they'll refuse the surgery if I haven't lost any weight pre-op. I'm having trouble losing. (Big surprise there, right?)

Frustrating Dr's visit
That would totally piss me off, too. I hope and pray that my surgeon doesn't have that written in policy. I'll have to check in to that. Is there anyway they can check your restriction under fluoro because I've read of cases here where people have lost a lot of weight through sheer willpower and their doctors didn't want to give them fills so they insisted on being tested and they had no restriction. Sometimes the surgeons would give them fills anyway. Just a thought.

I need some guidance.
You've lost 55 pounds, that is definitely not a waste! Just think, without the band you could have GAINED 55 pounds this year! Just start over following the rules I'm sure you already know and if you need a fill take time for yourself and get one no matter how busy your life is! You'll love yourself for it.

My husbands NSV!

A hurtful comment from a close friend
Maybe she meant it in a joking way? My best friend and I spend 85% of our conversational time talking about how fat we are so I'm sure weird things will happen to our friendship if I am banded and start losing the weight. I know that our friendship is strong enough to handle it but it will be weird at times. I love my best friend more than I love my family and I would be thrilled for her if she lost a bunch of weight. HOWEVER, I am honest enough to say that I'd also be jealous as hell even though I love her.
