newat52 reacted to IMWORTHIT2013 in One week to Surgery Self Pay MEDs required!
Hello fellow sleevers I am in the final stages before surgery ( less than a week! ) and things have gone very smooth. I started the all liquid diet Wednesday January 30th and I am just fine . No hunger, no headache, feeling good. I picked up all of my medication today including the following items Emend for nausea to be taken 3 hours before sugery, Nystatin Mouthwash to be swished and Swallowed 4 days prior to surgery, Diflucan 1 tab to be taken 3 hours prior to surgery, Hibiclens wash twice daily until surgery date, and the biggie Enoxaparin to be injected daily in stomach 12 days after surgery( to reduce any blood clots DVTS) . I am self pay and ended up paying around 416.00 for all of this medication in addition to my surgery. Just giving all of you self payers a heads up... it is costly. I've gone through ups and downs( mentally) in preperation for my surgery and have a great team of doctors, nutrionist, psycologist, nurse pracs, exercise therapist, and doctors who are doing a great jobin educating me that this is a CHANGE FOR LIFE. This is NOT a quick fix and it will not be easy. It will require lifestyle changes. My biggest struggle is I am afraid of myself and failing... because as you all know this will only work as good as you adhere to the protocol! It will require WORK! As you can see I am not a high BMI patient but struggle with my weight and am aware that it is the right choice for my future. 208 today could mean 250 tomorrow. I know the drill. I will keep everyone posted about my journey and hope all of my fellow Febuary sleevers are ready for the new person waiting inside of them! Good luck to everyone!

I'm not sure if I updated, I got home last night. The only pain I have is from my big incision. It's about 2-2.5 inches. The rest are teeny tiny. My drain site feels fine too. I can take a shower in another few hours.
So far I've had 6oz of Protein Shake and 10oz of Water. Right now I physically can't do anymore. I will try again after my nap. I get tired pretty quickly. So far today I have been off pain meds.
I realized pretty quickly that most of my hospital issues were caused from the morphine pump. Please be diligent and aware if you get sick shortly after. My nurses kept trying to get me to hit the pump and it was almost instant vomiting. Not fun when you are hours post op.
The crazy thing is I don't feel anything different. The only reason I can tell I had surgery is the large incision site. Everything else is great. I didn't have a lot of gas pains. I never expressed it from the bottom, always up and out.
Good luck to the rest of the sleevers and I will be keeping everyone in my prayers for a quick recovery.

In June I'll be three years post op, I am still surprised at how quickly I can drop a few pounds. I'm still below Dr. D's goal of 150, but I hoover (sp?) around 147, just a couple of pounds above MY personal goal. A few days ago I thought, I'm going to alter my calories just a little and see what happens. I almost always keep a food log, but I've been especially dedicated this week. I've gone up and down a little, which is normal for me, but this morning I got up and weighed 145.7. Whoooo whooo! I normally need 1200 - 1300 to maintain, I have been closer to eating 1300, maybe a little over, since Christmas and my weight has creeped up a few lbs, one time I was 151, and that totally was NOT OK!!!!! LoL This week I cut it back to 1100 - 1150. I do not feel deprived at all, I basically cut out a snack. Yesterday though, my Protein was a little over 95 grams and total calories were 1034. Wow....and it feels as though I grazed all day but I kept track!! The cincher was dinner. I'd planned on making a chicken rice a roni casserole. I use Greek yogurt in it, half lite sour cream and half yogurt. It's topped with 2% cheddar.....it's not horrible, and I eat less than 3/4 a cup....but, there are still more calories than I really wanted. When I was at the grocery store I stumbled across a package of cooked, tail on shrimp in the meat dept. It looked sooooo good, it was half price because it had to be sold by today. I snatched it up and steamed it for dinner. Nothing else, cocktail sauce and shrimp. I made 6.5 oz but could only eat 4 oz at dinner. I saved the rest and THAT was a snack later on. That put me way over the top for protein. I am sure this helped with getting me down a pound from yesterday morning. (Yes, I weigh every single morning......for almost three years now!!
I just wanted to share this......it is still pretty simple to lose a few pounds just by making a few good choices, NOT a diet, just a choice!!!! A half cup of cottage cheese for Breakfast with about a quarter cup of pineapple 'tidbits'. Breakfast of champions!!!

Hi everyone! I was sleeved on February 4, also. Woke up in a lot of pain. It has gotten better since. It is a strange sensation, gurgling and pressure. The pain meds are super helpful at this point. I am so happy and a little envious of those who are not having any issues. I am on the way home now. Passed the leak test and have kept in all my fluids! Woohoo! Here we go!

Tomorrow makes day 3 for me and it hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be so far...I am a total drama queen and I expected I would have broken down and cried like a baby by now, but I'm doing ok! I did tear up this morning because I work at a hotel and they had bacon at Breakfast and they were all raving about it and it made me so sad and frustrated...but I reminded myself that I am doing this for a reason! It's frustrating to have food all around you and not be able to eat any of it, but I know you can do it! Trust me, if I can, anyone can!!! I feel like I'm finally learning self control, and in all honesty it feels really good to be proud of myself for saying no to things I shouldn't eat! Best of luck!!!

Water!!! Water!!! I started pre-op diet yesterday and that has helped me curb the hunger. I think tomorrow will either be my worst day and then I will be over the hump. I had headaches and a little nauseous and light headed but the Water helped me push through. Yeah I had to go pee alot but as my friend said you are detoxing from all the crap you use to eat. Good luck!!! My surgery is on the 18th.

I chose not to tell anyone (only my husband and best friend know) becasue I didn't want a lifetime of "Oh, are you allowed to eat that" everytime I put somethign near my mouth. I am 6 weeks out and my weight loss has progressed at a pretty good rate, but not at a shocking rate (-35)...so just now people are starting to ask me about losing weight and I answer that I have completely changed my eating habits and I am simply moving more, eating less. Its nobody's business except my own, it was a medical decision.
