newat52 got a reaction from DLCoggin in How do you feel about eating out after weight loss surgery?
I'm disappointed there were only negative choices. whats up with that?Eating out should not be negative. In the beginning, sure it is scary till you get back on your feet. After a few months when one is back on a regular eating plan, go for it! I go out often. Its a social thing for me. I can go into a Mexican restaurant and not go anywhere near the chips. Every once in a while I do have a few but not often. Plenty of healthy things with Mexican food, which is, by the way, a food group all its own in Texas! If we know where we are going, I look online and see what there is. If not, I can't think of a restaurant that we would go to and not have some healthy choices.
I can go to McDonalds and find healthy choices. You couldn't pay me to order a Big Mac or even just a small cheeseburger. If I'm going to splurge on a burger, its going to be at a higher quality burger place, but even then hubby and I share one and I lose the bun. Don't order it that way but I just take it off.
I guess my point is that I didn't have WLS to be paranoid about food for the rest of my life. I want to have a normal life and make good decisions. For me, If I can eat my best 80% of the time, eat better 15% and 5% splurge, I consider that a success. No one can be perfect 100% of the time. Especially me.
If I"m someplace and I just can find anything, I will always ask for a grilled chicken breast and grilled veggies, even if its not on the menu. I have never been turned down. If you don't see, ask.
We have all made a brave and amazing choice to regain our health, lets go out and live and not cowering at home being afraid.
I will be curious to read through all the responses.
    Have a great weekend everyone!

I picked other because you did not really have a "positive" choice to vote for. i never get sick, I can always find something and I am very comfortable eating at restaurants - I enjoy the social aspects and the ambiance. If I am with my sons, i usually take a small portion off their plates. If I am out with friends, or a date or something, I eat off the appetizer menu. Shrimp skewer, for example, is the perfect bariatric meal.
I am 28 months post op, I didn't really go to restaurants too much during the weight loss phase.
I never feel like anybody looks at me weird or any of that. I think that since I am now "small" people accept it, when I was obese, i probably got more "looks" but again I didn't do alot of restaurant meals during the loss phase.

Constipation was far and away my biggest issue after surgery. Lots of Protein + no Fiber = major constipation. Check with your doc but you may need to use a suppository or some other method to get things going. You can actually get impacted then things are no bueno!
After I got myself going again, I used Miralax twice daily in my shakes. I put about a teaspoon in each one and couldn't taste it at all. Now, after a year out, fiber tummies are my friend!
Good luck, hope it all come out all right.

Hang in there! It's going to get better. The first 6-8 weeks are not a walk in the park. Our bodies need time to recovery from such a major surgery. I didn't feel back to my energy level till about 8 weeks. It's normal and it will get better. In relation to what sits well and what doesn't, for some folks it takes a bit longer.
One thing I used to do before I could get all my Protein from solid foods, I would spike my sugar free pudding with Protein powder. I would take a small pudding and mix it with about 12 oz of milk, a scoop of Protein powder( I use powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury at 21 grams of protein per scoop and blend it. Divide into two servings. It helped a great deal get in some calories and protein.
As you are able to get more protein and calories, your energy will come back you will will feel great!
Good luck and hang in there!

I think to ask would have been extremely rude. If she wanted to talk about it, she would have. I would suggest you talk first and you will find out fast if she wants to talk.
While everyone is different, some people are just very private and don't want to discuss personal things. She may be one of them.
Congrats on you success! Your stats are wonderful! The sleeved life is a great life, isn't it?

You have been very open and honest with your regret and I'm sorry so many people have attacked for it. Your feelings are what they are. But I can't help but hope that one day you will be able to come in and say, ya, know, maybe this was a good thing.
I really do hope that for you.

My response would have simply been. Don't be crushed, Be happy for me. It's not for sissies! Ask me sometime before you berate me.
Probably think if I wanted this person in my life after that. If she was not in the inner circle to begin with, probably not a big loss.

Learning how much better designer jeans fit! Who know jean were comfortable? BTW: Have been getting great designer jean at Clothes Mentor, a resale shop, got a pair of NYDJ, Jag, Jennifer Lopez jeans for $18-22 each. They are like brand new and it's been great shopping resale as I "pass through" a size!
    Jogging.
The whole leg crossing thing STILL amazes me each and every day! I don't think I will never take it for granted!
Giving away my larger sized clothing to my sister! (who ALWAYS had a snarky comment)
Ok, yeah the above one might be the biggest "little thing"

You are no more lying than when someone says 'how are you' and you say 'fine' without telling them all the details of your life. I say I'm eating right, eating less, and exercising - all true! The surgery part I share on a need to know basis. If I know someone well, or if I'm talking to someone who may really want to consider the surgery option (you can usually hear the desperation and frustration in their comments) I will tell them. Busybodies and gossips don't need to know all my personal medical info. :-)
