kellimcc got a reaction from NewSetOfCurves in eating over 1000 calories today, freaking out, talk me down please!
you have to eat to lose weight! If you undereat, your body will hold onto the fat, you are starving it, and it wont let it go! I upped my calories after a 3 week stall, and dropped 3 LBS that week! I'm averaging between 1,100 and 1,300 every day and am losing 1.2-3 lbs per week. Eat your Protein, drink your Water, exercize at least 3-4 times per week, you will lose! It's all math.

I am so glad I decided to have the surgery, it has changed my life. Keep up the awesome momentum and good luck on the 2nd half of your journey!

oh yes, I had very similiar pain around my large incision-I think it is very normal. My "main" incision hurt for weeks, even after all the other one's were totally healed. It felt like the skin and the organ were sow together at times! Just take it really slow!

kellimcc reacted to BANANA PANTS! in 5 Months Post Sleeve - FINALLY ONEderland!
Today, after almost a full month stall, I reached onederland! I'm -63 lbs since surgery and couldn't be happier. I have gone from a size 24 to a 14/16 - and that changes almost weekly it seems. A couple of things I learned along the way:
    1. Don't stress in the early days - just trust that the weight will come off
    2. I stopped comparing myself to others in terms of how fast or slow I was losing - this helped me to just focus on myself (note - lots of people put their highest weight as their starting weight so not all of the weight loss was following the surgery - just be aware of this if you are comparing yourself which we all do in the early days)
    3. Save all that money you are not spending on food for all the clothes that you are going to buy and then grow out of really quickly
    4. Find a buddy who is going to inspire you to exercise or eat better or whatever you struggle with - I found one and it makes a big difference
    5. Enjoy the journey - I know that I certainly am!

kellimcc got a reaction from sassime85 in When did u eat solid food again?
I will be 5 weeks tomorrow, started reintroducing solid food over the weekend. Here's what I've learned-you have to separate the food if you want an accurate measurement of Protein. So, we took kids to lunch at Hard Rock Cafe yesterday, I ordered the chicken club sandwich on whole wheat bun. Took off the bacon (just cuz it's a high fat protein and I won't go back there for a while) took off the lettuce and the top of the bun. Had 3 small bites and was STUFFED. Also subbed the fries for green Beans. Waited for 5 minutes after I felt like I couldn't eat another bite, and had 2 bites of the beans and I was really done at this point! Moral of the story, counted 250 calories, maybe got in a whopping 10 grams of protein, not going to cut it if all my meals go like that.

kellimcc got a reaction from mom2five in is pasta really that bad for you, when you can only eat 2oz ?
I am (was) a HUGE Pasta eater too. I find since my surgery (4 weeks ago today) on no longer have the cravings for carbs. I do love the cheese, sauce and meat though so I made lasagna with out the pasta and I'll tell you I didn't miss the pasta one bit! Make some small meatballs, 1 1/2 inch in diameter, or a about 2 oz each. Put them in crockpot with a jar of your favorite sauce or home made. Cook on low for 5-6 hours. When done, smash with a fork a meatball, two TBS sauce and throw two tbs of ricotta cheese on top, it's delish! Also, when I am feeling like I want just try some of the foods I'm avoiding, I remind myself that this is the weight loss period so stay focused on why you had the surgery to begin with. If you just can't resist then try a trick a friend of mine who had bypass 10 years ago told me-take a bite, chew it very well and spit it out.

kellimcc got a reaction from NurseGrace in Sleeved on January 22nd feeling kinda blah
anyone else have the blues? I'm trying to stay positive but I do feel like I need to vent a little. I havent seen the scale move down a single pound in 1 1/2 weeks! Whats up with that? Maybe I am eating too few calories? I feel like I lost more weight when I did weight watchers, 2-3 LBS per week. I'm eating 1/2 the calories that I did then, and not losing anything! I've been darn near close to 60 grams of Protein a day for the past 2 weeks, managing to keep my caloric intake to anywhere between about 500-700 calories per day, sometimes even less. Mostly eating cottage cheese, eggs, yogurt, broth and the Protein Shakes. I have had some meat, I grind it up in the food processor or my surgeon said he was fine with any meat I could easily smash with a fork, so a meatball etc.....Still struggling with the water-maybe 30-OZ total Water, then another 15 OZ other fluids. Yesterday every time I ate or drank anything, I had this horrorble gurgurling sound in my throat-and I was in a training session for the whole day so very embarrassing. Today, I had my 1st piece of toast in over 5 weeks. I put 3 oz of tuna fish and just a tiny squirt of light hellman's, threw it on top of the wheat toast & it and it went down really well and it seemed to be just the right amount of food. I was full, not stuffed. No issues what so ever, no burping or gurguling, it was all good. Now tonight, I am feeling horrible. Stomach ache, diarreah which I thought was behind me & I have a horrible head cold on top of all this. BLAH. Maybe I just need to stay off the scale for a week, and take care of this cold & maybe I'll feel better and the food issues I am having will become less bothersome.

kellimcc reacted to QweenBee.Bigboots in Sleeved on January 22nd feeling kinda blah
I was feeling the same way my surgery was
January 22, 2013 too. I'm getting in over 1000 calories a day. Usually I start the day off oatmeal and then I have tuna for lunch and then I'll have a chicken salad or tuna again for dinner. I'll have maybe 1 fruit during the day like a banana and then after dinner I'll have a snack as in sugar free pudding. The oatmeal I usually use Stevie as a sweetener, 2 tablespoons of canned milk for Vitamin D. And a little bit of butter.
Usually my Meals are no more than 4 ounces.
I usually drink 40 and 50 ounces of Water everyday.
I will drink all the way until midnight just to get in the ounces of Water that I need. At midnight And yet the scale does not move downward. Instead I have gained 4 pounds . Pre op 225. Today 204.5. I was sad too. But I have noticed that I have lost inches in the waist, neck, and bust.
I have decided today to increase my Protein and instead of the minimum of 60 I will try to get as close to 80 as possible. Other than that I do not know what I'm doing wrong. I leisurely walk a mile everyday and not all at once. Last week I exercise using walk away the pounds video.

kellimcc got a reaction from Velena in People's comments and frustration they can cause!
I can completely relate about the mental back and forth! I just had my sleeve 11 days ago, I decided to tell only a few people and honestly they were friends who I knew would support me, it's what i needed to get me through the 2 week pre op. I didn't tell my mom or my sister (who is still so mad at being kept in the dark she isn't speaking to me) who found out by accident when my 9 yr old who told my dad who just happened to call the day after surgery I was in the hospital for my stomach. Dad called my mom and from there it totally unraveled. And my sister is STILL angry because she says I should have told her because she deserved a chance to see me before surgery that significant because what if I hadn't made it through? See, it's all about THEM! So I say you go with you gut! I am more convinced post op given the reactions of those I chose not to tell (mother in law included) i absolutely made the right choice on not telling them, good luck on your journey, I feel for you, follow your heart, keep God by your side, he'll guide you through this journey!

I was mainly scared of a leak because of the stories on here. There seems to be a variety of answers on how long for the stomach to heal. My surgeon has had only had 2 leaks but 1 was at 6 months so I feel like I will worry longer than most. I've read a lot of people say within 6 weeks you are pretty healed. I know with the band the good stuff I liked like salad and red meat were hard to eat as well as a lot of veggies and fruit so I'm hoping the sleeve will let me eat the good stuff. Don't care so much about the red meat. Right now I can eat 2oz of tuna salad puréed and 6oz of Greek yogurt if I eat slow. I should be up to 3 or 4oz eventually in this stage for most things. My paperwork says that after a year it might hold as much as a cup if stretched but going to keep my food to my 2 and 4oz containers as much as possible. I know I'm different from most on here because I'm only 30lbs to goal weight so I'm not trying to lose a lot of weight but trying to maintain. I picked the band because it was the safest at the time and didn't want to alter my insides so I guess that's why it's hard to end up with the sleeve. I wouldn't of picked it at this point but it wasnt offered when I got my band and might have considered it when it was 100lbs.

    Happy groundhogs day
Day 17 here and feel quite good. Down 29.6 from day after surgery or 23.6 from per op. again see days I lose and days I don't but to think I have not been this weight for 6 years that puts it in perspective.
Most of us would like to lose faster but again look at the direction the scale is heading and most important how you feel.
A dream I think about is how many days post op I will hit 100 down from day of surgery
    Good luck all

kellimcc got a reaction from rxkid2384 in Had surgery 2 days ago..
I was so nauseas from the minute I woke up in recovery (January 22nd) until about 2 days ago. They had me on a patch I wore behind my ear plus a liquid medication in had to choke back every 6 hours. My surgeon told me it was OK to try some eggs, cottage cheese, and yogurt which definitely helped, I think it was all the Protein Shakes were just really getting to me. Water doesn't go down well still, so I keep sipping G2 which seems more salty than before surgery but it is much better than the water for me. The good news is I am 30 LBS down since the 1st day of pre op diet Jan 8th. I think it will start to get better for all of us-this is way different than what I had pictured in my mind, good, bad or indifferent we need to try and get our brains around how real this journey is now!
