I'm having mine on august 5th, only one month after my parents offered and we all together found out about this fantastic surgery and all its benefits...how craaaaazy i feel so unprepared but yet couldn't find a better moment to do it. i'm young (so less chance of extra skin), not too far in my weight gain and still have a couple weeks before school starts again. geez i am nervous and excited at the same time.

I've got two weeks on the per Optifast diet. Not looking forward to it. I have a feeling that I may b a raving lunatic dying this time so I have warned everyone around me! I told my husband that he was only allowed to eat things I didn't like during this time.

My date is August 5th and I started my pre-op diet today!

Doing the Happy Dance - August 6th in Columbia, SC. I started my pre-op diet yesterday - Protein Shake for Breakfast, Protein shake for lunch and a sensible dinner... Not so bad! The shakes seem to keep me pretty full.

Just got the call! August 5 baby!! Looks like there are a few of us with the same date! Cheers to the beginning of our new lives!

It was explained to me that at the very first, when we are learning to eat mushies, we can have things like mashed potatoes and grits.

I emailed Nina and asked her if anyone else was having surgery on the same date as I. She said yes, and I gave permission to Nina to give my email to that person. She has since emailed me.

I'm scheduled with Dr. Alvarez for August 1st. I'm sure I'll be posting all the details, good and bad. I'm a Nurse, so I'm sure I'll be critiquing everything. I searched and searched, and couldn't find one negative post about him, his staff or the hospital,

thought I would make a list so we can all keep track

I am having my surgery with Dr. Aceves on August 5th. I know he is more expensive than some of the Mexican doctors, but it is half of what doctors here charge and from what I can tell, he is the best. The three days in the hospital and three leak tests are important to me, plus all the glowing recommendations I have read by anyone who has been to him.

Time -
Both my wife and I had our sleeves done this past April by Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. I can't say enough about how much of a positive experience we both had. The Drs. were great and we have had zero complications. They are professional in every sense and the facility is top notch. The staff at Almater hospital were all friendly and service oriented. I would recommend using Dr. Aceves to anyone looking to get sleeved here in the US or abroad. I felt that I went to the best.. It just so happened that he was in Mexico.

I am being sleeved by Dr Aceves next week. I did extensive research, checked out complications rates, technique, etc and for me he was the obvious and best choice.

I was sleeved by Dr. Aceves this past March. I couldn't be happier with my experience.

Dr. Aceves did my surgery over 2 years ago. I had a wonderful experience. My main reason for choosing him was that I stayed at the hospital the whole time and that was important to me. It was a big decision to go to Mexico and after surgery I wanted to feel at ease knowing I would be in a hospital in case anything went wrong. I didn't want to go back to a hotel for a few days after surgery.

Hi! I live in Columbia and am having my surgery August 5th, in Mexico with Dr. Aceves. I am excited to find some SC sleevers here.

Hoping I could offer some encouragement. I am 4 months post op today and I honestly have no regrets, except that I didn't get sleeved sooner. I'm down 73 lbs, and about 30 inches overall. I have so much more energy. I work out 3-5 times a week. I have had a really good experience overall. I did have some early issues with dehydration but it was my fault...not drinking enough. I have only thrown up a few times. I'm eating normal, but healthy foods. I don't even recognize myself in the mirror! Its such a great feeling and I'm loving the changes. I still have a long ways to go! The apprehension is normal, but trust me, its worth it.

Not if you don't feel like doing it - then it's just a labor.

Here is a bit of my story....
I have been considering this surgery for awhile then I felt like my decision was sealed when my employer finally won the battle to have WLS added as a covered benefit on our plan. After that, I no longer had any excuses and took the plunge! I am keeping the knowledge of my surgery to strickly immediate family, so I have been hoping for support here. I have banned myself from a few threads because they are making me more nervous than supported. I have taken some preop pics (yikes!) and some of those were wearing an outfit I haven't been able to wear in at least 40lbs. I am going to take progression pics westing this to give me visual motivation during the rough Patches. I am excited about the changes that this.surgery will help me make. I have been dealing with low energy, chronic back pain, heel pain, and living like a recluse for far too long. I am ready to shed this fat suit that I have NEVER been comfortable in

I was toying with going back to Dr. Ortiz for revision surgery (I had the band with him back in 2008) but they couldn't guarantee me they could do it in one procedure (an issue for me since I'm from northern Canada). I also had a friend personally recommend Dr. Aceves so I looked into him more and everything directed me to him! I had the best experience and all of his staff were kind and professional. No issues at all! I'm down almost 50 pounds and from a size 18/20 to a 12 now! I love that man and his staff!!!

I had a revision from the Lap Band to the Sleeve 4/1/13. Dr. Aceves and his staff were wonderful. I chose him due to his reputation, the hospital facility (You stay there the entire time...there is an ER and a fully functional ICU... I liked that), and his experience with revisions. I struggled with the price as well... did a re-fi on my house to pay for it. This was my life... I needed the best. Besides being a skilled surgeon...he is kind and caring. I am down 61 lbs since the start of my pre-op diet and 51 since surgery day. From size 24 to 14's and 12's. Oh... and the hospital is small but it is very clean and much more modern than I would have expected. I was walking constantly so I sure saw a lot of it! One thing to note... Mexicali is certainly not a tourist destination...lol.

I also went to Dr.Aceves in March for a band to sleeve revision. I had an excellent experience. I was banded 4.5 years ago with Dr.Ortiz/Dr.Martinez. I had a good experience there as well. The 3 reasons I went to Dr.Aceves and not back to Dr.Ariel Ortiz was 1- Dr.Aceves has more experience 2- The longer hospital stay, I just felt more comfortable being in the hospital for 3 days as opposed to being in a hotel. If I were to have an emergency at 3am the response time being in a hotel freaked me out 3- I went to Tijuana thinking Dr.Ortiz was doing my band and didnt find out until after Dr.Martinez did it. Now, he did an amazing job and Dr.Ortiz was there BUT that wasnt explained to me at all before surgery...unless they told me the little bit right before after I had a relaxant and I dont remember. It should have been told to me before I even travelled there. I almost did go back to The OCC though as I went there for several fills an have always had good experiences, but I just felt much more comfortable go to Dr.Aceves.
