Is your stomach scarred?
Why no belly dancing? I had my gall bladder out about 7 years ago, and can only find one of the scars from that.... I expect in 7 years to only be able to find my port scar in 7 years.... I belly danced at almost my highest weight (was too sick at my actual highest) but then I've never let my weight stop me from doing anything. Probably much to the chagrin of my friends...

my new best friend!!!
Jack, at home in Seattle I l-o-v-e the water, but I now have a new understanding of water. It is TERRIBLE here. I just cannot drink tap water, it is too... icky, hard, harder, hardest. If I leave a glass of tap water out over night, there will be a minieral ring from where it evaporated. If I don't drink bottled water, I have to have something it in. It isn't pretty.

Ghosts...
My angel saved me from becoming one of Leonard Lake and Charles Ng's victime. I had been working at the Ren Faire in Novato, CA, when I met Leonard. He took a fancy to me, and invited me to go visit him at his cabin in the Mountians. As soon as he touched my arm, it was.. aweful. A voice told to me run away as fast as I could, but make sure I didn't upset him in any way...

Feeling Alone
I would say you will be just fine. Make sure you go grocery shopping before your surgery so you have things like popscicles and juice and gas-x and Protein drinks on hand. You may not feel like driving anywhere for a few days. Get your prescriptions filled before your surgery too, that will save some bother. We'll be here for you!

Today is My One Year Bandiversary
You look great Lisa, but I'm a little confused... Who is that fat short brunette in the photo montage? So you lost 70ish pounds and grew two inches taller? Can I expect the same results? I've always wanted to be 5'7"... No port maybe, but baby you look great!

Should I have lap band surgery
Paula M, I've been thinking about this all night. It really isn't for me to tell you whether to have it or not, but you are asking for opinions, so here goes. The lap band, or any other WLS is a very drastic step to take. Like the others have said, this isn't a malabsorbtive technique, and it is possible to gain weight after any WLS. You would still want your comfort foods. The band won't stop that, or probably stop you from eating your comfort food either, since most people have soft comfort foods. One of my main comfort foods is ice cream, because for me, ice cream = love. Yeah, I know... One of the things anyone considering this needs to understand is that it is a lifestyle change. Are you really ready for an alternative lifestyle? Since your insureance company won't cover this, you would have to go outside the country. This will be expensive, like new car expensive. My recomendation to you is this: instead of using the money on an expensive, invasive surgery is to hire yourself a really good personal trainer and a nutrishonist. Many sports and health clubs offer these services. Make that commitment to yourself first. If you find that after working with the trainer and nutrishonist for a year or so and you are still not happy then look at the surgery again. Good luck on your jouney. Travel safely.

Were Moving!
oh yeah, did I mention NO MORTGAGE?

Were Moving!
oh Paula, ((((((Hugs)))))), you silly, silly woman! Of course you are doing the right thing. It's a little known fact, but kids are actually made out of a super bouncy substance that only looks like skin! Why do you think they can fall without getting hurt? They are amazingly resilliant critters. Don't make me get Zoe's boot... HELLO! NO MORTGAGE!!!!! Okay, yes moving is stressful, and children express stress by crying. Heck, I express stress by crying. Moving is strange, and they have to leave all the things they are familier with behind. In fact, moving is one of the most stressful events in a person's life. But, there is good stress and bad stress, and we need all sorts of stress in our lives. I tell my son all the time that I have to mess him up somehow, just so he will have something to talk to his therapist when he's older. (he says I have to try harder apperently) In the last 15 years, I moved my son at least 8 times... Besides, they can always visit their friends, right? So, Paula, what does it feel like to not be raised by wolves?

Mints and Gum
why would you think these were a no-no? There are no foods forbidden, we are not "dieting." I was told that on the morning of my surgery that if I had gum or mints they would cancel the surgery, but it has nothing to do with being "commited" to the band, just a safety thing. You can't eat or drink anything within so many hours of surgery.

I will never eat rice again!
Kathy, it just doesn't seem fair that you don't get food of your choice... A nice bowl of chili... Actually, only wheat has gluten. I haven't had trouble with rice, but my DH has a heck of a time with it.

Post Op Pain
I dunno about you Trish, but all my paint is in tubes! I would have thought paint would be well into the mush stage, definately not liquid stage! That would be the case for the oil, acrilic and watercolors. Oh, and the paint I use when I stencil comes in pots, so that would have to wait unitl the solid phase... Maybe "paint thinner" consistancy instead??? Perhaps it should be "thinner than paint" instead??? Hugs Trish! Only teasing you!

Esophogitis, reflux, or strep?
You didn't say how long this was going on. If it has just been a couple of days, then you need to get checked for strep, especially if this is something that the neighbor kids have. My son is espeically suseptable to strep... Don't take any chances with strep

What Kind of Dog are You? -- doggy fun
Yay, one of those silly personality quizzes! Click "What kind of dog are you" in the lower right of this page: http://www.gone2thedogs.com/ I am a Standard Poodle... Personality Intellignet and fun loving (hou'd have to be, looking like that) the Standard Poodle is a real athlete - good at hunting and swimming. Happy, good -tempered and lively, this animal is camp on four legs, (and a fancy coat). The only downside is that the Poodle like to look good and demands a serious grooming every six weeks.

Exercise log book
Monday and Tuesday: walked for 40 minutes both days, did 50 crunches Monday, worked with horses yesterday, 3 hours. Surprisingly, I didn't get hurt when I was thrown off one of the horses... (it was just that sort of day)

cellulite in port
oh dear! My DH would get terrible cellulitus before he got his band! I sure hope it is NOT cellulitus! Not anything to mess around with. Have her call a band dr right away!

Blue Bell Ice Cream Hell!!!!!!!!!
Without a spoon? NOOO PROBLEM MAN!!! You simply peel the carton away and eat it like you would a cone. Or you use the lid. Ice cream = love And that is the hardest bond to break.

Restriction after surgery
I had great restriction for the first 5 weeks after getting my band. I'm now in my 6th week and I have been really hungry. I don't eat as much as I used to, but I don't have any restriction at all now. I'll get my first fill in a couple of weeks when I got home for the summer
